Feeling Good About Your Wardrobe When You Don’t Fit into Anything Anymore

There comes a time in many a girl’s life where she opens up the wardrobe and tries to find something to wear, only to reject item after item because she simply can’t fit into anything any more.

This has happened to me a lot over the years – my weight yo-yos up and down, and I can often remember the times that I’ve sat on the bed crying, clothes strewn all over the place, because everything I’ve tried on is just too tight, uncomfortable or simply won’t. Go. On…!

Not wanting this post to be too much of a downer, I’ll mention that the #notlambFIT series stalled big time in May, and it in fact went the other way… It’s going to be resurrected, and I’ll take responsibility for my eating and exercise habits once more.

I FOUND THAT I ABSOLUTELY COULDN’T FIT INTO ABOUT 50% OF MY SUMMER WARDROBE. ANYTHING THAT WAS REMOTELY FITTED WAS JUST A NO-GO.

Meantime – there is a way to feel good about your wardrobe once again, albeit temporarily. With the summer season clothes changeover (it never warms up till about June-July in the UK, so I’m usually still wearing my winter clothes till then), I found that I absolutely couldn’t fit into about 50% of my summer wardrobe. Anything that was remotely fitted was just a no-go.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Whilst I still want to get the fitness programme back on track (more on that soon), I needed something to simply make me feel a little better short term, in terms of everyday, comfy clothes. I had a discount code for New Look (one of those birthday discounts they send you), and just decided to see what they had at the tail end of their sale.

Aaaaand lo and behold – I found quite a lot of pieces that were basically just a few pounds each (I’m talking between £1 and £6)… New Look reductions can be incredible! It meant that I could splurge on several pieces that fitted me, wear them maybe just for this year, and not feel bad about buying them.

The way to feel much better about a cheap outfit like this (which incidently cost me just £8.80 – £6 for the shirt and £5 for the trousers, then 20% off) is to simply add your more treasured accessories – those that add a little class to the mix. With my Daniel Footwear mules and this gorgeous cloud bag that was gifted to me by the Cambridge Satchel Company (with my cute personalised embossed lamb!), I didn’t feel like I was wearing stuff from a bargain bin.

So if you find yourself not fitting into your clothes, don’t despair. You’ll always fit your bags, shoes, jewellery and other accessories – just find something basic, casual and (preferably) on sale to tie you over till you get your fitness back on track.

Clothes, not weight, are often the best measure of when your overall health and fitness is slipping, so go by them as a measure if you’re not a fan of the scales. Who is…?!

And if you’re wondering about the other things I looked at/considered, here they are:

(I did get the patterned trousers and £1 belt as well in the end!)
