best of the blogosphere

18 Unmissable Reads, The Best of the Blogosphere (August 2021)

In my Best of the Blogosphere this month I have alarming HRT info, thoughts on therapy, ‘people who feel like sunlight’ and more!

I recently read somewhere that “August is the Sunday of months”: it definitely feels like that as summer is drawing to a close. We’ve had glorious bank holiday weather this weekend in the UK (traditionally it’s HORRIBLE), so it feels even more like the last hurrah than normal. And I’m posting today (Monday) as I always publish my best of the blogosphere on the last Sunday of the month, and by rights that’s what today is.

I found some lovely links for you this month, the first two being my absolute favourites (maybe even for the whole year). Both are total feel-good posts. And no social media posts this month, which is getting more and more unusual now as so many have abandoned their blogs over the years, but I’m glad that those who DO still publish blog posts are producing some top quality content.

Blogging ISN’T dead I’m glad to say…!

[Reading time: 3 mins – excluding time reading links]

Do have a read of these great links – you never know who or what you might discover that makes your day/week/month!

What links did you like – and have you found any fabulous new blogs to follow? Comment below…!

Favourite post this month: ‘Stay close to people who feel like sunlight‘ is a wonderful concept about finding people that support and respect you. “It’s truly remarkable how we can adapt and grow when we’re soaking up sunshine rather than spending too much time in the shade“. Love it.

My other favourite post this month (I’ve allowed myself two) is Lost in translation by Krystal: obscure, beautiful feelings that have words in other languages with no direct translation in English. For example, Wabi-sabi (Japanese), a world view centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.

Two absolutely beautiful outfits that Cyn wore in Lisbon (oh, that tropical print)!

Vitoria discusses the pros and cons of working with your partner… in the past I thought I’d like it if Keith worked from home too, but I’ve since realised we need our own space after all. And that’s perfectly okay.

10 best air-purifying bedroom plants. I have quite a few of these and it’s good to know they’re making the air I breathe a lot cleaner.

This I don’t understand at all, and I didn’t even realise some people were doing it: Why some bloggers are killing off the comment section on their blogs. I mean, WHY?!

I’ve yet to see the new Cruella movie (it’s on my watch list) and I’m deeply into Keiko’s Cruella de Vil-inspired outfit.

Sharon found out (to her cost) that your HRT can stop working: she’s written a brilliantly frank, informative and helpful post in her latest menopause update.

Alice Catherine has shared some thoughts on having therapy [in Great Britain]. She’s talked openly about her own personal experiences with it and how it can often feel frustrating and lonely. I also thought that the differences between having therapy on the NHS and having it privately were VERY interesting.

This is a bit worrying, but at least this list is here to keep us informed: 21 ways you’re probably violating social media guidelines without realising (so many things I see people do all the time could get their Instagram/Pinterest/Facebook accounts suspended and permanently deleted… crikey).

With winter coming up, these 5 tips for preventing dry skin by Laura are good to make note of now.

Patti discusses some of the ways experience can make us more beautiful; for example, our style reflects who we are more closely because we know who we are and grow more confident every year.

This is really good info for bloggers: what influencers should know about exclusivity in sponsored content (i.e. if a brand asks for an exclusivity period, make sure you charge extra for it).

4 things that Tiffany likes to do on Sunday to prep for the week, like planning her workouts (I so need to do this).

I love my morning porridge and this banana nut protein oats recipe is right up my street.

Kristin embraced the grey a few years ago and is now embracing grey curls (and they look stunning).

I am LOVING Joy’s living room reveal with all the soft pinks, yellows and tangerine with splashes of gold and white. Just heaven.

Like the question I ask in my life hacks post, here are 22 questions to ask when you want to avoid “So, what do you do [for a living]?”

And a few Not Dressed As Lamb posts you perhaps missed first time around:

Stay safe XOXO
