Winter Brights in Shades of Pink and Yellow #iwillwearwhatilike

I’ll admit – pink and yellow aren’t the first colours that come to mind when putting together a winter outfit.

Much more of a spring combination I’d say, especially around Easter time. But when the weather’s been as awful and depressing as it has been here for the last few days – no, make that months – then some winter brights are absolutely vital for boosting my mood.

At the weekend I fancied wearing the pink check coat I first featured last winter, and yellow just jumped out at me from my wardrobe and begged to be worn with it. Who doesn’t feel happier looking at pink and yellow together? I toned the whole look down [I do see the irony in that…] by adding burgundy/plum peg leg trousers (similar) that have been worn to DEATH over the last several years. And I always love a few fun accessories: mustard leather gloves (similar), the pink pom pom hat (similar) and my new bluey-green sunglasses from & Other Stories, which were bought to replace the old ones I featured last month which were, I found out, really scratched. The worst scratch was right in the middle of one lens where my main line of vision was, so they kept making me go cross-eyed as I was constantly distracted by the out-of-focus fuzzy mark.

We took these photos just before Storm Ciara really kicked in. The South West [of England] has seen some shocking weather and so much wind, rain and hail that I can’t even remember what it’s like to experience calm, mild weather anymore. But we’re lucky: unlike some, we have a house quite high up so we’re not at risk of flooding and for that we’re thankful.

Our garden, unfortunately, has not fared so well. It looks like a miniature Glastonbury after an exceptionally wet June thanks to a greyhound who likes to do zoomies when there’s a break in the rain. Each time I let her outside I think to myself, Please don’t start running, please don’t start running, please don’t start running…
