Can You Wear a Pyjama Top as Outerwear? #iwillwearwhatilike

If you can’t wear your PJs at Christmas time, when can you?

[Reading time: 2 mins]

Whether this is officially a pyjama top or not is up for debate, but I got it on sale at Asos and it had a matching pair of loose shorts (plus the fabric is a soft cotton). Described as a “co-ords set” rather than a pyjama set, it was to all intents and purposes a pyjama top to me…!

The outfit is what I wore on Boxing Day: a loose top with short sleeves (my parents’ house is very warm), high-waisted trousers and comfy flats. Hair tied back with a pearl headband. Minimal makeup. A little gold jewellery.

All in all a nice easy-peasy outfit in shades of pink and green.

I bought the trousers over a year ago in the peg leg shape I love so much, and although I have a few pairs of green trousers in various shades and cuts I wear them all regularly. The pyjama top (which, to me, has a touch of the Hawaiian shirt about it) goes perfectly with my trousers due to its pink, orange and green seahorses pattern. I actually wore it open for practical reasons: in case I got too hot inside I could strip down to just my sleeveless vest top.

(Stripping off layers wasn’t necessary in the end and I wore the Goldilocks of Boxing Day outfits.)

Turns out I rather liked it worn open and layered – I can see it in the summer with jeans and other vest tops underneath (orange, pink, white, etc.) so it’s now officially one of those wear-all-year-round pieces.

Finally, those new red flatform brogues… I’ve had my eye on them for ages and they were my Christmas present to myself. I think I’m headed towards a wardrobe FULL of different coloured flatforms – they just add that certain something to an outfit, and my goodness they’re comfy. Add some polka dot or large fishnet knee highs underneath and I’m happy, despite deep down wanting to be wearing heels (but without the feet ache).

What unexpected ways have you worn your clothes lately? Tell me in the comments…!

P.S. Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up!

This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Click here to receive an email reminder for the next #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!

Linking up etiquette…

CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed! Also: by linking up you’re saying it’s okay for me to drop you an email to say the link up is open – you can unsubscribe at any time.
