This outfit was what I wore to host a styling event for Cotton Traders at the end of November, where I showcased my favourite SS20 pieces and how to style them; this coral maxi dress* was the star of the show for me. As it’s from the new collection it won’t be available to buy until about February time, but as soon as it IS available I’ll link it here and mention it on my social channels… the coral colour, the boho styling and long length were all too much for me to resist!
(If you’d like to know when it’s available then do drop me an email and I’ll let you know when it’s on their website. Update March 2020: it’s available, I’ve linked to it)
Cotton Traders asked me to show you how versatile this dress can be as they designed a range that’s the very opposite of fast fashion. My 5 Ways to Wear sections in my outfit posts are exactly how they want their audience to approach the new collection, which is all very fresh and new for 2020 by the way… there were LOADS of pieces I loved!
So as it’ll probably still be cold when the dress becomes available to buy, what better way to show off its versatility than to give you three cold/cooler weather outfits? If you love an item of clothing as much as I love this dress, there’s no reason not to wear it all year round – the trick is in the styling.
Read on for my three ways to wear this boho maxi dress (which could easily have been five or more)…
Hope you loved the ways that I’ve styled this maxi dress… what’s your favourite look? Tell me in the comments!
This is very similar to how I wore the dress at the styling event. Maxi dresses lend themselves perfectly to 70s style, and if you add a roll neck and knee-high boots then ANYTHING becomes 70s-looking…!
Far from having an Indian Summer, we’ve had a miserable autumn in the UK so the way I styled it here would see you through from autumn to winter. The coral, blue and white colours of the dress are picked up in the red faux fur scarf, navy coat and boots and roll-neck sweater. Tan adds a little warmth with that glorious suede belt and a fun faux fur bag adds even more warm, furry fuzziness.

I absolutely ADORE winter whites, so when I saw this shearling jacket I knew it would work beautifully with the Cotton Traders dress. I’ve also had my eye on these white hiking boots for a while – they add some tough, ‘cool girl’ vibes to the dress. The accessories either pick out the black and brown of the jacket and boots or the coral of the dress (the beanie is a perfect match and such a flattering colour to wear by your face on so many skin tones).
Don’t forget your warm layers underneath. If it’s really cold I’ll wear tights AND leggings underneath a maxi dress or skirt in the winter; the dress is loose enough to take all the layers you need to keep out the cold.

Once some milder weather comes rolling around (looking outside at all the rain right now that thought makes me so happy!), you can ditch the woollen layers and zhuj up the dress a little more. These fabulous gold sandals would actually look great with black tights if your legs are still cold, and metallics aren’t just for Christmas. Shades of bronze, pewter and gold all work together and look fabulous with the colour of the dress.
A biker jacket is the perfect style for a maxi dress or skirt: the proportions work to divide your body into the “ideal” thirds which is especially flattering for all body shapes, sizes and heights.
Cotton Traders have a classic biker jacket in their SS20 collection which I’ll link to, again, when it’s available.
