A Pink Corduroy Jumpsuit Styled With White Boots #iwillwearwhatilike

You wouldn’t believe how pleased I am to be bringing you this outfit post.

[Reading time: less than 3 minutes]

Why the drama? Well, this was basically the gold standard of jumpsuits for me. The fashion gods were conspiring against me, but goddammit I managed to get one. Both due to my own self-imposed terms and conditions for its purchase, and for the retailer’s lack of cooperation when it came to purchasing day.

I shall explain…!

This pink corduroy jumpsuit has been on my radar for quite a while – I think since it popped up in my & Other Stories newsletter email which was probably when it first appeared on their website. It’s not often my heart completely skips a beat over a single item of clothing, but skip a beat it did.

Unfortunately I fell in love with it right around the time I was engaging in Operation Fitness, and the wise woman in me said, Don’t get one now as your regular size might not fit you, or if you get one that fits you now, you might find it’s too big come autumn. (Damn that wise woman.)

So I held out. & Other Stories kindly keeps things in your basket all the time they’re in stock, so every now and then I’d check… my regular size (the one I was aiming to get back to) was still available. I even added it to my Best of the Blogosphere post for August.

The self-imposed terms and conditions (well, there was just one in the end) was that I had to get to X weight or (more importantly) X measurements before I was allowed to purchase. There was no point buying a stunning piece of clothing only to have it too loose to wear later down the line.

After what seemed like a very long summer of healthy eating, lots of sleep, tons of exercise and two detox retreats later, I finally reached my targets – and went to purchase.

You know what’s coming next, don’t you?

MY GODDAMN SIZE WAS OUT OF STOCK.

All summer they had every size in stock. The fashion gods decided that no, when the day came for me to click through to checkout, my regular size would be no more.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

(I’ll start wrapping this up now, shall I…?)

Long story short, I checked every single day for a couple of weeks, and in the end decided that my size wasn’t coming back into stock and no one was returning them (who can blame them when it’s a jumpsuit AND it’s pink AND it’s corduroy AND it’s very 70s styling). So, fed up of constantly checking, I gave up and a few days later bemoaned the lack of pink corduroy in my wardrobe in a WhatsApp chat with my girlfriends. The suggestion was made that I check for returns – which of course I’d been doing – but I thought I’d look later that evening anyway.

Later that evening:

MY SIZE WAS BACK IN STOCK. I couldn’t click Add to Basket quick enough.

The result? It fit like a dream. The jumpsuit was mine, and I did a little happy dance in front of Keith wearing it (yup, the expression you’re imagining on his face is EXACTLY the one he was sporting).

Styling a pink corduroy jumpsuit

So, happy days! I added white (vest top) and white (boots) and lots of layered gold necklaces for its first outing, just to keep it simple. The zip at the front was a little too low for my liking, but that’s nothing that a camisole or vest top can’t sort out (plus I’m planning to wear the jumpsuit with roll necks for extra warmth as the winter sets in).

For those of you wondering about the fitness thing, I shall be writing a blog post before Christmas (at the latest) about my weight loss journey over the summer and how I FINALLY cracked the constant weight gain problem I thought was irreversible (or maybe due to perimenopause) after about three years of trying. I’m feeling fitter than ever and I hope some of what I did (and habits I changed) will be of interest to you.

Anyway – enjoy these photos of pink corduroy lushness. It won’t be the last appearance of this corded beauty on the blog.

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Click here to receive an email reminder for the next #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!
