Dressing in Shades of Two Basic Colours (Navy and Orange) #iwillwearwhatilike

As much as I’d like to be sharing more spring-like outfits, I still have some with coats to show you. Roll on SS19…!

This week we’re having a VERY pleasant spate of mild temperatures and wall-to-wall sunshine (it’s been blazer weather at last! Hurrah!), but a week ago it was still a bit chilly. So this is what I wore when we went out for a birthday lunch last week: warm enough to go without socks, but chilly enough to still need a big(ish) coat.

What I loved about this outfit (albeit thrown together very quickly because I was running late for our reservation time) was that it was, effectively, only navy and shades of orange. Okay, I’ve taken a BIT of a liberty with the interpretation of orange and included brown, beige and tan, but they’re still warm colours and muted shades of orange, right?!

All the items I’m wearing are old/not brand new, and with the exception of the trousers (very comfy M&S bootcut leggings), no longer available unfortunately. But as always I’ve found some alternatives for you, including an almost-identical long tunic sweater (it may be maternity, but who cares?), a gorgeous tan leather tote with ring detail and a lightweight brown check coat that’s perfect for transitional spring dressing.

So like my ‘I’ve-cracked-it’ approach to packing for a week away that I shared last week, the ease of this way of dressing is to 1. Pick a neutral (navy, brown, grey or camel work well), and 2. Pick your favourite colour colour, and find everything in shades of that colour to build your look.

I kept my base items (trousers and top, just seen) in the neutral navy, and added everything else in warm brown-orange shades. The coat* is mostly navy and orange, so I was already onto a winner in that regard.

NEW STYLE LINK UP INFO (INLINKZ HAVE HAD A FACELIFT)

Some of you may be aware of this already (it’s likely if you partake in a lot of link parties): Inlinkz have had an update and changed the look of link ups a little. (Not my choice, but the old look is being retired next week so I’ve been forced into it.) There is ONE major thing that you need to know, and it’s in light of the GDPR data collection stuff:

The first time – and ONLY time – you link up to a new-style Inlinkz link party (this is a one-time thing on ANY blog, not for each blog you visit), you will need to register using either a Facebook or Google account (or Inlinkz account if you host link ups yourself). Once you’ve done this you can continue to link up as before on any Inlinkz link up on any blog, no further registration required.

A bit of a pain, but GDPR makes us do these things…!

Also: they’re working on increasing the number of characters allowed in the caption they told me. So apologies for the caption being a bit restrictive at the moment, hopefully it’ll change soon! Let me know if you have any problems at all.
