Seeing as the classic colour for raincoats is beige, a metallic raincoat is certainly not for the fainthearted. But when I wore this outfit we were right in the middle of April showers so something bright and warm was essential. The UK is set for a “hotter than Greece” style heatwave this week (I am not joking), so within the space of just four weeks we will have had full-on snow, a lot of rain and then a heatwave.
What on EARTH is going on…?!!
I actually said to Keith that Mother Nature is more of a man at the minute (Brother Nature anyone? Parks & Recs reference there for you…) – you know how men tend not to have any idea of a happy medium? Ask them to turn the heat up in the car a bit and they’ll change it from pure cold air to the hottest setting. To hell with warm/lukewarm – let’s go for ALL THE HEAT! So yeah, she’s heard us moaning about the snow and thought, I know, I’ll give them a heatwave, that’ll show ’em…!
The day I wore this I felt like a weight had been lifted (that’ll be the huge winter coat, thick scarf, hat, three pairs of socks and gloves then) – it was such a novelty to be wearing a light JACKET. I piled on all the warm coloured things because it’s spring! And we like nice colours in spring! The British spring may not (at this point) have seen weather warm enough for florals or light cottons (oh how it’s going to change…), but I did my best to wear something cheery to counteract grey skies and drizzle.
What we ended up with was reds, oranges and burgundys alongside the warm metallics, and the side stripe trousers that I bought last year and have worn many times (but not yet featured on the blog).
SHOP THE LOOK:
The black trainers/sneakers (US link) are new and were kindly gifted to me by Ted Baker… they are UNBELIEVABLY comfortable, like wearing a pair of slippers. They’re also somewhat on the pricey (three figures) side, but when they’re this comfy I think they’re totally worth the investment. Unusual for me is the fact that I went for black; I’ve actually been after a pair of black trainers for a while – I really like the no-laces, slip-on style. I expect to be wearing these for a long time as the style is classic, but with something of a twist.
What I REALLY like about this outfit is the little styling details, so here are a couple of tips for you:
Add patterned tights or knee highs instead of leaving your ankles bare. Better than socks, they still stop bare feet getting icky inside trainers but have the added bonus of some detail (these were Asos but you can get spotty tights from UKtights).
Roll the sleeves of your sweater out and over your jacket sleeves. It’ll add a bit more colour to your outfit and actually look like an accessory, tying in the colour of the sweater to itself.
And so ends today’s Styling Tips 101 😉
Once again it’s here – the finals of the UK Blog Awards is this week! I’m a finalist in the Fashion & Beauty category once again, and I’m under NO illusions that I’ll win a second year in a row (can’t see them doing that), but I’ll be there for a fun night and to get dressed up.
Follow along on my Instagram account on the night (mostly Stories I should imagine!) for behind the scenes and details of who won what and what I wore…!
Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week.

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!
My favourite outfits from last week’s link up:

To get yourself featured next week, make sure you’ve included a link back to Not Dressed As Lamb or my button in your post/sidebar!
Do share the love and visit as many links as you can (you never know what other lovely like-minded ladies you might meet) – the original Instagram campaign forged some wonderful new friendships so don’t miss out!
