A Winter Outfit of Mixed Textures, Over 40 Style #iwillwearwhatilike

Mixed textures in winter are almost impossible to avoid if you’re having to layer up (like we are here – yet again)!

There’s absolutely no sign of spring on the horizon here in the UK (except for the poor daffodils that thought they’d make a hopeful appearance during the milder temperatures). We’ve just had a Siberian blast hit our shores, and BOY is it fresh out there. The only saving grace of this icy weather is the fact that we’ve had several days of glorious sunshine, and if you can find a small sheltered pocket then the sun does make a difference and will actually warm a bundled-up body.

We took these photos a stone’s throw from our house* in the setting sun and you know what, it was a truly glorious weekend. It even perked Riley up – the boy wanted to go out for a walk several times and he ended up getting FOUR walks on both Saturday and Sunday (long walks too, not all short ones)!

But then who are we to deny our doggy friends their pleasures in life, especially in their latter months and years…?

I’ll start off by saying that this coat is, alas, not new – I’ve had it several years but it STILL makes me feel very movie star-esque with its mixed textures of faux fur, tweed and leather. (Scroll down for lots of mixed texture coats I’ve found as alternatives for you if you’re after something similar.)

SHOP THE LOOK:

Although I’m hoping for warmer days and some more signs of spring, I’m still enjoying wearing all the textures and warm colours that I can get my frozen hands on. I love all the oranges and reds in this outfit, and apart from the studded crossbody bag everything I’m wearing is past season.

*Expect to see this location a lot more in my outfit posts… this was the back of a restored 16th century (late Tudor) house in our town – we had no idea before now the gardens were open to the public, and we’ve lived here for over 13 years (=she rolls her eyes at the missed photo opportunities=)! We’ll definitely be making more use of this lovely location – which is less than 400 yards from our house – as it’ll mean much time saved traipsing about in the car to find somewhere picturesque to shoot…!

Tomorrow I’m off to London to have afternoon tea with someone VERY well known in the fashion industry – I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself. I’ve got the opportunity to interview this person who I know the majority of people absolutely love (I’d go so far as to say they’re a national treasure)! Once I’ve published this post I’ll be working on my InstaStories and a Facebook post to ask YOU what you’d like me to ask this person because I reckon you’d come up with some great questions for her and about her time modelling in the Sixties (OOPS think I may have revealed who it is, bums)… 😉

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE STILL STRUGGLING WITH WINTER (AND WINTER DRESSING)? TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Linking up etiquette…

CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!
