The Three Basics You Need For an Elegant Wedding Guest Outfit

I’m sure most of you have had a wedding invite drop through the letter box and felt that rush of excitement at the prospect of seeing your friend, sister, cousin, colleague or niece get married, am I right? And I bet I’m also right when I say that the next thing you think is, “What am I going to wear…?!”

What to wear to a wedding as a guest is probably up there with what to wear to your prom and any black tie event as the most important events you go to with regards to what you should wear (second only to your OWN wedding, of course)! Although trousers can be perfectly acceptable to the right wedding, I think most of us would choose a dress over anything else, and then there are two other things you need: Shoes and accessories.

Once you’ve got your shoes and dress, it’s then simply a case of choosing suitable accessories to go with them, and I have to admit sadly that hats aren’t worn quite as much as they used to be (which is a shame as I’m a hat girl). No, today I’m talking jewellery: Jewellery gives your wedding guest outfit that special finishing touch it needs, and if you’re the type that hasn’t a clue where to start then this is the post for you. I’m featuring a beautiful rose gold set today with my floral midi and white mules – I’m tooting my own horn here but how pretty is this outfit…?!

I’ve teamed up with Links of London to bring you a simple, stylish jewellery set that will work with almost ANY type of wedding guest outfit. It will also fit seamlessly into your wardrobe to be worn on a regular basis, it’s that classic. Rose gold jewellery is a brainchild that I wish had been around years ago, or at least more popular years ago. Personally I think it suits most skin tones when silver can be too cold for some and gold is too yellow for others. It also works well with so many colours and prints so you really can’t go wrong investing in quality rose gold jewellery.

I was asked to create a wedding guest outfit with three pieces from their Ascot and Essentials collections – I was so happy to see that they have a large selection of jewellery in 18kt rose gold as I’m quite obsessed with all things rose gold at the moment!

I’ve featured several close up shots of the ring, necklace and bracelet I chose to wear with my outfit. These are quality, investment pieces as you can see from the details of their craftsmanship:

Ascot Diamond Essentials 18kt Rose Gold Horseshoe Ring
With pavé diamonds, the ring is crafted in 18kt rose gold vermeil. I love the connection of a horseshoe with a wedding – in a way you’re bringing the happy couple good luck on their day!

(I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure what gold vermeil was so I looked it up: Vermeil jewellery is sterling silver with a coating of gold laid over the top.)

Essentials 18kt Rose Gold Vermeil Silk 10 Row Necklace
The necklace has 10 rows layered together to create a simple choker that’s just the right length for many different necklines, and perfect for the v-neck of my dress.

Essentials 18kt Rose Gold Vermeil Silk 10 Row Bracelet
Like the necklace, the bracelet is diamond-cut to create a shimmering finish and is quite small in diameter, so it’s good for tiny wrists like mine. I often find bracelets hang round my hand because they’re so big, so it was nice to find a bracelet that sits where it should – on the wrist.

These pieces of jewellery are simple, classy and elegant – and I doubt they’ll ever date (the collections are also available in silver and gold if rose gold isn’t your thing). While I do wear a lot of costume jewellery (which is fine to get the most on-trend pieces for each season), I also love jewellery that lasts and can be passed down from generation to generation. They would last you for many years and are beautiful for weddings or other events where you need something classic.

So although I haven’t been to a wedding this summer I do have a ready-made outfit should an invite drop onto my doormat. And despite the fact that hats are not so popular these days I’ll still wear one – as many of you know I’m a hat girl, it’s a tradition I still cling onto!

But wear spectacular jewellery and you can wear the simplest of dresses – jewellery is what brings a wedding guest (or any special occasion) outfit to life.

Shopping online at Links of London

Links of London offers free standard UK delivery on all orders and standard international delivery for £10 (free for orders over £150). Many items are around that price so it’s likely you wouldn’t have to pay for delivery anyway. Also, returns are free within 30 days in the UK… That’s a BIG plus for me – I always favour stores that offer free delivery and free returns.

The packaging looks beautiful: I didn’t see it myself as my jewellery was on loan only, but the boxes are stylish black and white with black ribbons.

Plus engraving is an option on many pieces. For me there is something so, so special about having something personalised or engraved, so do consider that if you’re buying their jewellery as a gift.

And that includes a gift to yourself – why wait for beautiful jewellery to be given as a gift by someone else… Treat yourself, ladies!
