Ad | White Maxi Skirt and Layered Blouse (With Blue and Orange)

Sometimes an outfit works so perfectly that I’m even more excited about it once I’ve taken it off, edited the photos and admired the fruits of my labours.

It’s time to get serious about SS16 now, and I felt truly summery in this outfit made up of two gorgeous key pieces from the Jacques Vert Group’s new edited SS16 collection – The Style Edit.

Disclosure: I have written this post in collaboration with Jacques Vert (click here for my full disclosure). All content is original, however, and opinions are my own and 100% honest.

I will be honest and say I don’t often shop from the Jacques Vert Group, but this season they’ve really upped their game and produced some rather lustworthy pieces. The Style Edit is described as:

…A directional and versatile edit of the Jacques Vert Group SS16 collections curated by stylist Sasha Barrie. Key trends are introduced based on the latest catwalk looks, versatile styling pieces and summer social diaries.

They’re offering “trend-focused quality pieces” in the edit, and the women it appeals to are those who want to look “effortlessly sophisticated”. So hello, that’s me…!

I was kindly asked if I wanted to style some pieces from the edit, so I chose the maxi plisse skirt and layered blouse (which both come in sizes 8-24 I’m pleased to say). A monochromatic look – especially in white – can be hard to pull off, but I decided to add blue and orange to give it some bold colour and counteract any suggestion of a bridal look a white maxi might give.

The two pieces are absolutely beautiful – very light, floaty and summery. I was originally going to wear the scarf at the neck, but in the end I decided to hide the difference in textures of the blouse and skirt by wearing the scarf like a belt, and it really worked. (The skirt has an elasticated waist which may not be the sexiest type of waistband, but I’m all for them to allow for fluctuations in size and the occasional indulgent meal.)

I’ve also photographed the back of the blouse which shows off that pretty layering detail – a subtle but clever feature.

The blue (blazer) and orange (lace-up flats) gave a bit of structure – some “oomph” – to the all-white look. This is the sort of outfit I want to be wearing to an alfresco lunch or to a summer birthday party: Somewhere that you want to dress up a little but be comfy, with the option of a topper to save you from getting cold without ruining the look of the white ensemble. The skirt will also work equally well with heels or sneakers (I’m thinking white Stan Smiths or grey Converse as a contrast to the girliness of the floaty fabrics).

Top marks to Sasha Barrie, the curator of the edit, and to Jacques Vert for some seriously stylish pieces this season. You can check out the rest of the edit here: http://style-edit.com.

What do you think of the style edit? Has my all-white (with added colour) given you any styling ideas for summer…? Tell me in the comments!
