How to Style The Classic Windsmoor Camel Cape | With Double Denim

We’re now well into October so I guess autumn really is here – what better time to showcase a stunning wool cape in preparation for those chillier temperatures?

This cape is by Windsmoor – a long-established British brand known for its elegant outerwear – who have, in my opinion, hit the nail on the head with this classic, timeless piece as part of their AW15 collection. It’s made of the softest wool in a colour described as camel (though I think it’s more of a cool taupe than a warm beige), and it’s trimmed with black so it pretty much goes with everything.

The beauty of a cape is that you can just throw it over the top of any outfit and head straight out the door. Unlike a winter coat, it works brilliantly over another jacket without adding bulk. With that in mind, I thought about styling it in a way that would contrast its classic Britishness, so I went with double denim: I buttoned the jacket right up to the neck and added this year’s jean shape, the high-waisted flare. It’s a rather unexpected combination, but as you may well know I’m all about the unexpected. The striped bowling bag and classic red lips add a dash of colour without detracting from the classic-elegance-meets-modern-denim feel of the outfit.

I also love the faux-leather trim and (asymmetric) fasteners with silver studs – somehow the outfit demanded cat eye sunglasses and minimalist earrings which I thought worked beautifully to finish off the air of continental sophistication it gives off. It may be from a timeless British brand but this cape screams “Paris in winter” to me. Maybe I should go for a long weekend just to show it off…?!

(The cape has actually been chosen as Coatwalk’s “Coat of the Season” – a fact I found out after choosing it from Windsmoor’s collection. I must be more in-tune with trends that I thought…!)

What pieces are looking forward to wearing this season? And if you own a classic cape, how do you like to style it? Do share in the comments!
