Happy 40th, Thandie Newton (Celebrating Her Style)

Source

How on earth can Thandie Newton be 40? Does time just stand still for her…?! It’s her birthday today and I thought I’d celebrate another one of my celebrity yardsticks with a look at her style. (This year I’m celebrating the birthdays of celebs that were featured on my Musings post It IS an Age Thing, where I talked about actresses who, like me, are 40 this year.)

I have to admit, I’ve had a major girl crush on this gorgeous actress since she told Tom Cruise (in Mission Impossible II) that she was “just a bloody thief”. (How terribly English – and terribly cheesy – of her.) In my eyes she is such a classic beauty: exquisite bone structure, gorgeous hair – especially in its rarely-seen natural curls – and just about the most beautiful skin I have ever seen. Plus she has the softest, sweetest, ever-so-slightly clipped accent which I love (I always wished I spoke much more “nicely” than I do – I’m a lazy speaker and have to remember to e-nun-ciate). So when I say I have a bit of a girl crush going on here, I think you can tell…?!

Aside from her stunning beauty, I love her style; she seems a very private person so there aren’t many photos of her to be found on the interweb apart from those on the red carpet and at events to get an idea of her off-duty style unfortunately. (She’s been married for 14 years – a record in Hollywood! and seems to keep her family life quite private.) But I’m not complaining, because when she does makes her public appearances I’ve found she wears an array of dresses in deep jewel tones and stunning prints. The bright pinks, turquoises and rainbow colours she wears suit her colouring perfectly – I think she was born to wear Matthew Williamson:

The other part of these celeb posts I’ve enjoyed is the virtual shopping I’ve been doing to show you some items inspired by my fellow 40 year olds. And dresses in vivid colours and bright prints are in abundance at the moment… check out these beauties:

On the flip side, she does wear classic black and neutral colours from time to time – and suits them just as well. The black column dress below is absolutely gorgeous with the gold belt and earrings – how beautiful yet understated does she look??

The dresses I’ve chosen below are probably less day dresses and more evening or going out dresses – but with Christmas coming up next month (eek), it’s a good time to start thinking about what to wear to the office party 😉

If you want to read about my other celebrity yardsticks, you can also go to my other posts on Dita Von Teese and Cameron Diaz. Along with other 1972 girls Jennifer Garner, Rebecca Romijn and Gwyneth Paltrow, I’m not-so-secretly chuffed that I’m the same age as them – there’s something about discovering you’re the same age as celebs you really love, like being in a little club with them… how daft is that?! Such is the power of celebrity 😉

(By the way I didn’t cover Gwyneth because there was only a day between her birthday and Dita’s, and though I adore GP I really wanted to write about Dita’s style. Sorry, G.)

Happy Tuesday to you all – I hope you liked my Thandie inspirations!

Do come back tomorrow for a new outfit post, and don’t forget my giveaway ends in less than 24 hours so hurry to get your entry in!
