18 Unmissable Reads, The Best of the Blogosphere (September 2020)

In my Best of the Blogosphere this month I have Disney cottagecore, a perfectly preserved 1970s interior, Tracee Ellis Ross’s style and more!

(My Unmissable Reads are a monthly round-up of things I’ve seen, watched and liked in the blogosphere that I’m sure you’ll love too.)

It’s the end of the summer in the UK (boo!) and for many other places too, so before autumn proper kicks in here are some colourful reads for you – not a whiff of spiced pumpkin anywhere to be seen/smelt. Seems lots of interiors blog posts have caught my eye this past month, and I’m fascinated by this new internet aesthetic called cottagecore (I mean, what the cottage what?!). Plus as always I’ve thrown in a few funny and cute animal links for your amusement and for awwws.

You’ll love watching John Furniss, AKA The Blind Woodsman at work (find him on Instagram here). He is – you guessed it – a woodworker who is also blind. He produces the most stunning pieces any sighted woodworker would be proud of.

I’m on a podcast! Recorded before Covid, I talked to the lovely Elizabeth Dhokia for her Good Life Unravelled podcast where we discussed all things to do with fashion over 40. We really got to the nitty-gritty of it.

Queen of bold interiors Kirsty has listed lots of places where you can get free furniture in the UK – loads of great ideas and tips (which apply to outside the UK too). Thanks to one of her tips I bagged myself four vintage dining chairs for just 99p from eBay (almost free) that I’m going to upcycle.

I’m inviting everyone [in the UK] to sign this petition to get the online forum Tattle Life shut down. It’s meant to be a place for people to leave constructive criticism about influencers – it’s actually full of bullying, harassment and discrimination. I’ve read a few threads and it’s nothing short of shameful and disgusting (WARNING: do not look up your own name. I didn’t and I won’t, and I’d prefer not to know whether I’m on there so please don’t look me up and/or tell me if I’ve been discussed in a thread).

This Shiba Inu pup named Uni is probably the cutest, smiliest dog I have ever seen.

All hail eco-warrior Michelle for creating an up-to-date list of 133 vegan and eco-friendly fashion brands (plus an explanation of leather alternatives that don’t harm people or the environment).

I’ve just discovered fashion brand Inch² and Oh. Em. Gee – how cool is their footwear?! Can I have it all, especially these caramel combat boots…?

I adore Megan’s colourful home and her removable wallpaper mural in her multifunctional office space is especially perfect for rented homes.

These hilarious groundhogs are getting pushy with each over food, but it looks more to me like they’re shoving each other out the way in order to be at the front of the photo.

It’s only recently come to my attention that Tracee Ellis Ross has amazing style, so I loved this round up of some of her best looks. Plus she’s a 1972 girl like me ; -)
