I have created a series of retro-look photos showing my outfit for this important day, showing the poppy I made myself after seeing all the bling poppies worn on TV. I decided to donate the money I would have paid for a bling poppy straight to the Royal British Legion and make my own instead, and it inspired my ever-so-slightly retro outfit because of today’s connection with the world wars (it’s the hair, lips and pearls that do it).
Quite by accident one of the shots was very overexposed and it looked like a really early colour photo, so I decided to go with it and create a similar effect on all of the final photos. (I love the first one, I think it looks like a hand-tinted 1930s or 40s picture.) The poppy I made simply by cutting out the poppy shape from red card using one of the paper ones as a template then covering it in red felt; it was stuck onto a leaf made of green leather on green card with a brooch pin on the back. You can see I covered the whole thing in black, red and green sparkle embellishments made for greetings cards – really quite easy but I was so pleased with it.
I shall wear it with pride and treasure it for next year, when I’ll donate and wear my poppy again so the charity gets 100% of my money.
Stay safe everyone x
