White Boots and a Floral Maxi Dress #iwillwearwhatilike

Floral maxi dress and white boots with longline khaki jacket and tan bumbag | Over 40 style fashion | Not Dressed As Lamb

I finally found a pair of white boots that I like (that also weren’t silly money) to wear with my floral maxi dress  – a combination I’ve been wanting to wear for ages.

It was the tiniest bit milder this weekend, a bit different to the snow we had last week. We spent the weekend with friends down on the coast near the New Forest, and although our walk down at the sea was somewhat biting due to the cold wind, the rest of the time it was reasonably mild. I could actually forgo a huge coat for once and decided that I should wear my khaki suedette jacketfloral maxi dress and white boots by Miss KG.

When I saw the combination of maxi dress and white boots on every fashionista at September’s Fashion Week I fell in love with the look and it started my months-long search for the right pair. I didn’t want to spend TOO much (I can’t see them staying on trend for that long), I wanted the heels to be white (as opposed to black), I didn’t want the heel to be too high or thin and I was after something quite plain. Eventually I found the Miss KG pair for just under fifty quid… not bad!

I have a feeling the khaki jacket is going to get a LOT of wear come spring as well as on colder days in the summer.

It was a bit of throw-it-on outfit (the jacket was a last minute, I-hope-it-looks-okay-with-the-dress choice), but I’m loving it all the same. I haven’t worn the floral maxi nearly as much as I hoped to over the winter because it’s been just SO damn cold – tights under a dress just weren’t enough to keep me warm – but I’ll see if I can get a few more wears out of it yet. I have a feeling the khaki jacket is going to get a LOT of wear come spring as well as on colder days in the summer.

SHOP THE LOOK:

The little added-extra I liked was the tan bum bag from Asos – I actually swapped the belt with my own studded belt, which is a little tip for you if you want to get a bum bag that’s more of a purse belt where the purse detaches from the belt. I have my eye on a leopard bum bag from Topshop, but to be honest it’s not exactly an essential and do I want to spend money on something that’s very, VERY on trend right now? Not sure about that one.

So there you have it – I’ve finally donned my floral maxi dress and white boots outfit, only about six months after it was THE outfit to be seen wearing 😉 . As I always say I don’t really care if I’m on trend, off trend or way behind everyone else… I like the combination and that’s what counts. I never see anyone wearing anything vaguely like what I wear where I live anyway (or down on the south coast in Hampshire!), so in the true spirit of this week’s link up I really am just wearing what I like.

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

The #iwillwearwhatilike link up with Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Adorable, Catherine. I’m always way behind in the trend department too. I try to buy most of my clothes at either 2nd hand stores or on clearance racks, so I’m am usually behind a season or two, but like you said, who cares? We are wearing what we want, when we want. I love this combination. That dress is so pretty and the white boots really pop! Great look! – Amy

I’ve been afraid to wear white boots because I was worried they’d make my feet look huge, but those are super cute, and I love the chunky heel! Well done, Catherine!

Florals, spring – yes! And we had a time change in Canada on the weekend, which is another sign of warmer weather to come SOON. Thank you for the linkup, Catherine!

I’ve been struggling to find a pair of white boots that I can afford (and like) too.
The nice ones seem to cost a fortune.
You’re lucky to have found these for 50 squids!
    They’re lovely and chunky.
I’m going to have another look.

Good find with the boots! Like you I’ve been searching for a pair without a black heel. I love the little belt bag too. A far cry from the bum bags of my youth…. X

Thank you so much for featuring me dearest Catherine! So honored you like that outfit. <3 It is all about the combination, don't you think? And I certainly very much love your jacket, dress white boot and money belt mix.

The thing about white boots I totally agree with. To buy some or not to buy any is a question I have been contemplating in my head for quite a while now. Because you can just tell it is not going be around for a long time…but then again…to create such beautiful looks like yours….haha…

Also loooove Lizzy's skirt. Isn't it just to die for.

Have a fabulous week lovely lady. xxx Sabina

This maxi dress combo is EXACTLY the kind of modern boho look I’ve also been jonesing to do for weeks now, dearest Catherine!! I love the unexpectedness (is that a word?!) of your new white booties next to the moody floral pattern of your frock; and that belted faux-suede jacket?? All I can say is that you’re lucky you live across the pond…otherwise I might be tempted to steal it right out of your closet!! XOXO

Unexpectedness is DEFINITELY a word, and if it’s not it should be!! 😉 Thank you Monika, I can see you in something similar so I’m not surprised it’s right up your street! thank you my lovely x

Love how you fearlessly style the new trends Catherine! The white boots are fabulous and the belt pack looks great! I tried on a pair of denim the other day that had complete and total frayed-fringe at the hem…I couldn’t help but think those would only last through the spring and summer season so I shelved them. What do you think?

Thanks Chrissy! Personally I think jeans – any style – are for all year round! It all depends on these two things: do you like them? Are you happy wearing them? If yes to both, then there’s your answer… don’t worry about anything else (remember it’s only clothes)! x

Great look Catherine and your boots suit the look perfectly as they are more ivory than stark white. So far not many white boots here (in Australia) but no doubt they will appear as the new season hits the shops. Many thanks for hosting #iwillwearwhatilike.

I’m with you on the white boots dilemma Catherine. Having also fallen for this look, I too did not want to spend the big bucks although I still haven’t found a pair I love. I really don’t think it matters how quickly (or slowly) we jump on a new trend as long as it’s an honest admiration & not merely the need to copycat. I know you know what I mean 😉
So many women rush out to copy the latest look on IG without considering whether they truly love the look! Oh blimey I’ve just described fast fashion Hahahaha

I still need time to go back to white shoes after the 80’s. However, you seem to be able to pull them off with style so I’m beginning to turn! Your jacket works so well with that floral dress, I love it. x

Hmm I had my reservations about white shoes for the same 80s reasons, Maria – but I bought white pointed shoes last year and I think it’s eased me into it. Seeing the boots with the floral maxis last year was what clinched the deal for me!! xoxo

  21. 12 March 2018 / 5:56 pm

These booties look very nice. Great find. I haven’t jumped the bandwagon on this great trend as I’m always worried about how to keep them white. It may not be an issue in the UK, but here in Alaska where unpaved roads, driveways and parking lots are the normal, it’s a prblem

The good thing about white boots is that they look good in winter AND summer, Jodie – that’s if you don’t have stupidly hot summers, which we definitely don’t get in the UK 😉

  28. 12 March 2018 / 3:34 pm

I’ve been ‘into’ bumbags for years lol. I just think they’re so practical on days when you need to be hands-free (ie. shopping) but I’ve still not found one that looks ‘stylish’. This one is fab and I love that you can slip it onto your own belt. Love the boots – the fact that they’re more of a solid heel which is white, really makes them more appealing. You look fabulous, Catherine, and I’m glad to see you’ve finally had some half-decent weather (although I just saw online that the UK is in for some more arctic conditions next weekend! Eeeek!)

Strangely I actually already had one Suzy – more of a purse belt like this one – but the belt somehow got lost and I never thought to put it on a different belt. Now I shall do it with that one too and voilà – two bum bags!! I hope we don’t have arctic conditions at the weekend because I’m planning to “spring clean” the garden… #fingerscrossed

      Thank you sweetie xx
