Have you ever had your eye on a piece of clothing or an accessory for years (something that was maybe designer and you couldn’t afford it, or a one-off piece a friend owned) and it never left your mind because you loved it so much?
Something like that happened with this vintage-style floral tapestry coat I was kindly gifted by JD Williams. It’s a very similar type of coat to the vintage tapestry coat I was lent for London Fashion Week several few years ago: the colours are nearly identical, and although that one had a geometric pattern and this one is floral it sort of looked the same to me as I’d remembered it in my head.
Though now I’ve looked back at the pictures of the first coat they’re not actually all that similar, but still – I love this new one! It’s surprisingly lightweight (quite a blessing for a coat like this, they’re usually as heavy as anything), the colours are gorgeous, and then there’s that fur collar. Which is detachable, making the coat soooo much more versatile. I foresee it with different colour scarves or covered in brooches around the neckline.
Noice.
❝
A FUR-CUFFED SWEATSHIRT IS GOING TO BE A GODSEND FOR ANYTHING WITH THREE-QUARTER SLEEVES THIS WINTER.
❞
Another something you may have noticed about the coat… the fur cuffs. The same fur cuffs that I wore under my Prince of Wales check blazer a week ago that were on my Zara sweatshirt? I think a fur-cuffed sweatshirt is going to be a godsend for anything with three-quarter sleeves this winter, like this coat. (Maybe I SHOULD have kept it in the other colourway as well… oh balls, I’ve now sent it back.)
In fact the coat looks like it has two different colour furry bits on it now… It’s such a clever styling trick.

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
Linking up etiquette…

I love that coat, Catherine! I would imagine we'll be seeing a lot of it on the blog in the future! I love that it can be dressed up or down too. I hanker after so many things that I can't actually come up with my top one item… I shall have to think on that 😉

Wow! I love that coat! My daughter would love it too – is it ok to call it 'Granny chic'?! Great tip for the fur-cuffed top underneath. I sometimes do '90's teen with knitted wrist warmers with three-quarter length armed things.

That is a gorgeous coat!
Catherine, I'm loving that coat on you! I could never pull off that floral pattern…don't ask me why, but prints like that don't look good on me! I love seeing others that are able to wear things I can't! Have a great week!
That coat is gorgeous!
And as far as "hankering," I have a long long list! Not being a straight size there are so so many clothing items that are just unavailable to me. Every day I look at blogs and Instagram and Pinterest and shopping sites, etc…and see items I would love to wear – if they only came in my size. I'm not whining (well, maybe a little), but the fashion industry really needs to keep upping its game as far as size inclusivity.
Okay, stepping down off my soapbox now!

OK this is weird, our blog posts are along the same theme today. Although mine is a belt bag I've been searching for second hand as I can't afford the price of it new. We haven't even talked about this! How in sync are we?
Your coat is truly a work of art Catherine. And by the way so is your gorgeous hairstyle! Beautiful xxx
Oh my gosh…these photos are GORGEOUS, dearest Catherine!! Your new floral tapestry coat is absolute perfection next to your "goldilocks" 'do; and those 3/4 sleeves really are an ingenious way to show off a little of what you're wearing underneath!! (Apparently, I'm not the only one who's doting on all things "furry" lately!!) As far as loving something from afar before finally taking the plunge?? I'd say that would have to be my Pandora bracelet…I'd coveted one for AGES before I finally splurged. And now it never leaves my wrist!! XOXO

Gorgeous coat, showcased to perfection!
I'm a huge fan of all things vintage so this coat really appeals to me too. And yes, I love that extra fur cuff that you've created – so cosy for this time of year. Your hair is looking lovely Catherine, so healthy and such a wonderful colour!
I shall never forget a beautiful taffeta dress I missed on eBay a couple of years ago and even go back from time to time hoping that it will have come back on the market again.
Thanks for the link up!

Gorgeous coat and it looks fabulous on you. If it had full length sleeves I'd snap it up but just cannot cope with short sleeves on a coat!
Best coat everrrrrrrrrrrrrr, dear Catherine, and your hair is so fantastic.
Thank you for the party, dear friend.

Now that is a clever trick with the cuffs! I remember the vintage version – how serendipitous that you now have this one. Xx
