The Fab 40s wear their favourite colours: I’m so pleased to be part of this group of fabulous over 40 fashion bloggers as a special guest this month – what an honour…! Each month these bloggers from around the globe pick a theme and create an outfit around it.
So as the theme was “My favourite colour” I had to obviously work out what that was. This was actually my first hurdle – as a lover of colour (ALL colour, not counting black) I honestly didn’t know what my favourite colour even was. When people ask me that I always think, Do they mean to wear? Or in my home? Or just for colouring in?!
I know I’ve been wearing a lot of orangey-red lately, but I never used to even like orange at all.
So I asked friends, What would you say is my favourite colour?
That turned out to be a mistake. Hilariously, nearly everyone said something different: Peach. Pink. Red. Orange. Orangey-red. Burgundy. Yellow. No help at all, people, NO HELP AT ALL. (At least they were all warm colours. That was something.)
In other words, I just love colour… It seems ‘colour’ is my favourite colour.
I decided to go with what was in my summer wardrobe that I’d recently taken out of storage that jumped out at me. (Now don’t get me wrong, when I say “taken out of storage” I mean literally just that: The boxes are out of storage. The clothes are still in the boxes. I’m wearing stuff straight out of the boxes, not from my wardrobe after they’ve been put away. I blame the British weather: In May in the UK you’re usually still debating whether to put away your fur-lined parka or whether you might still need it one more time. So when the weather surprises you with hot weather – 27C – it’s a bit of a shock and one that my summer wardrobe wasn’t quite prepared for.)
And the item I was most excited about rediscovering? My pair of cropped floral trousers. So did this influence my choice of favourite colour I hear you ask…?
SHOP THE LOOK:
Now I know it’s somewhat obvious from the photos (😉) but yes, I went with blush pink. My outfit is made up of all things blush and soft pink, from the trousers (first worn for my Madonna at Live Aid tribute post last year), to the suede shoes, to the beautiful pink satchel, to my hoop earrings.
(None of the items are still available but I’ve suggested lots of alternatives with the thumbnails above and links after my last image.)
Blush pink is definitely having a moment right now – especially after being one of Pantone’s Colours of the Year 2016 (Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue) – and it’s just so pretty. I guess the fact that I have so many blush pink clothes and accessories proves that it is [one of] my favourite colours.
Who knows what my fave will be next week…?!

PINK: Samantha used to thoroughly dislike pink, so admits it’s an unusual choice but she loves wearing it now. And I’m so glad because how beautiful do all these pinks looks on her? Pink is perfect for redheads IMO.

BLUSH PINK: Diane and I are blush pink twinsies! She says that blush pink was her favourite colour as a child, and it goes so well with her gorgeous skin tone. She’s made a simple outfit look super stylish with her gorgeous hair and strappy heels as accessories.

KELLY GREEN: Jennie’s favourite colour is green, and more specifically Kelly green which is such a great choice for her flame-coloured hair. I love the 1950s feel of her outfit with the vintage floral print dress and brooch – Grace Kelly herself would be proud.

BLACK & WHITE: Sheela shows us how athleisure wear is done in a funky black and white jumpsuit (I love the short sleeves and striped edging). And boots to die for are always to be expected – Sheela’s not disappointed us on that front.

YELLOW: How gorgeous and colourful does Mary look (oh, those colours with her dark hair!) – yellow paired with tangerine is a combination I’ve not worn myself but definitely need to. The orange playsuit is just summer perfection.

BURGUNDY: Veronica’s favourite colour is burgundy and has worn a super-funky bomber jacket with a gorgeous motif on the back (check it out on her blog). I’m a massive dungarees fan so of course love this dungarees/bomber jacket/sneakers combo.
