A Simple, Pretty Way to Style a Classic Breton T-shirt #iwillwearwhatilike

Perfect spring outfit: Red Breton stripe t-shirt white full midi skirt black d'Orsay patent heels tortoiseshell sunglasses black box handbag | Not Dressed As Lamb

Rather unusually for April, the sun was out in full force for most of the UK over the weekend and it was nothing short of glorious (and, dare I say it, even a bit hot). So out came the Breton stripe t-shirt, midi skirt and bare legs for the day!

HOWEVER (such is the English weather), by the time we were able to get out and shoot some photos not only had the sun gone behind the clouds but the temperature dropped significantly and there was the mother of all winds hampering our efforts. Damn you, Mother Nature (I’m sure she can’t be a feminist, that one, otherwise she’d do what she can to actually HELP us poor fashion bloggers in times of need)!!

But really, it was such a beautiful weekend and a welcome change in April. We sat outside and ate lunch and I even dared to show my bare legs with my white midi skirt (similar) I haven’t worn in an age. I’ve worn my red Breton stripe t-shirt over the winter a couple of times by layering it over a white roll neck and pairing it with dark denim or navy trousers… It takes on a whole other spring-like, preppy meaning when you put it with white.

If Breton stripes and the obligatory blossom background doesn’t scream spring to you, I don’t know what will…!

SHOP THE LOOK:

I decided to tie up my hair in a loose roll at the back to keep my neck cool (proof it really was that warm!) – I also like how it looks with my oversized tortoiseshell sunglasses Jaeger kindly gifted to me. They’ve just launched their new sunglasses range and as you can probably guess the styles are all classics and top quality so do check them out.

Next stop: Fake tan I think (to stop my winter white legs blending into my white skirt again)…!

As mentioned last week I’ve switched over to shooting in RAW and editing in Lightroom, and I’m so happy with the results. The dull weather window during which these images were shot were helped enormously by the clever editing software. If you’re interested, it’s about £10 (or is it USD?) a month for both Lightroom and Photoshop Elements – well worth it if you can shoot in RAW and take the time to learn how to use it. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what it’s capable of and I couldn’t be more excited about getting to grips with it and making my photos even crisper, brighter and more dreamy.

The #iwillwearwhatilike link up with Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Such a lovely way to wear a Breton top with the midi skirt! The weather was glorious at the weekend. No bare legs for me, although my toes did see the light of day for the first time in ages!

Im back in woollie pullies and tights now the weather has turned cold again. The sun and heat were nice while they lasted. My breton tops are all charity shop finds. I'm getting quite a little collection now

Honestly, I didn't think your photos could get any more "picture perfect", dearest Catherine…but these are truly stunning!! And the fact that spring has sprung for you (and you're doing bare legs and short sleeves!) has me beyond envious; here in Vancouver, we STILL can't seem to get out of our warm-and-woollies!! P.S. I'm not a fan of tans, so as far as I'm concerned, your ivory skin is perfect as is!! P.P.S. I'm SO thrilled to be included in your round-up of faves from last week…muah, muah, MUAH!!

This is a massively spring-like post. Hurrah. Sadly, we have yet to feel the new season here in Vancouver. Your photos – they are stunning. You already had impressive photos but this is a new level. Something to aspire to. I need a camera and lens that can handle this beautiful depth of field.

Your photos look stunning! I love this outfit too, the red stripes with the white midi skirt equals Spring perfection. It was indeed a beautiful weekend that we just had, though like you said got very chilly. We also went to shoot some photos after a lovely warm almost hot day but it was freezing by the time we took them. Gotta love the British weather 😀

    Take care,

WOWZA, I can see the difference in your RAW photos! Your photos are always amazing anyway, so I'm curious to see how they change going forward. You are a classically pretty picture in your stripes and midi; it is a timeless outfit that could be worn 40 years ago or today. I'm loving you in a red lip too. xx

It was super weather here in the UK wasn't it! I actually had bare legs too, had me reaching for my Dove Summer Glow, probably a little late, but at lease I've made a start. Lovely white and stripes, very cool! Jacqui

These shots look pretty awesome to me, but the all the bells and whistles are way over my head! You look so fresh and dare I say it, summery, in these photos Catherine that it's difficult to believe that you were shivering away in the breeze. A lovely, classic bit of styling.

Thanks for the link up party once more x

What an elegant and classic look! Fabulous!

  13. 10 April 2017 / 7:20 pm

I just switched to Lightroom as well and don't yet have a clue what I'm doing. The photos in my latest post, therefore, are completely unedited: no filters, no cropping, nothing. The light that day was fantastic so it works.

I love your little purse. It's too cute for words.

Your photos are just so fabulous today! It makes me so excited for spring and spring fashion. I love how you combined that fun top with that skirt! Peace! Cheryl Tucker

No bare legs for me yet, but fake tan will be used before I dare to bare.
Love your hair in this post, any chance of seeing it from the back?

  16. 10 April 2017 / 3:21 pm

I bared my legs for the first time this year on Saturday! I probably blinded a few folk, they are eternally white but still, it was so freeing not to have to wear tights! Hasn't the weather been absolutely gorgeous? And the blossom in your photos is the perfect background to your sweet and simple outfit. Stripes and a skirt – perfect for Spring.

No bare legs yet here in chilly Ottawa. But…no boots either…which is wonderful!

  20. 10 April 2017 / 2:24 pm

I used to be all about the fake tan….but I'm really trying to embrace my whiteness and love my body as is for now! Besides—I could argue that it's a better vertical line if my legs match my skirt–ha ha!!
