Donating Unused Make Up and Toiletries to Help Vulnerable Women

How Your Unused Make Up and Toiletries Can Help Vulnerable Women - Give & Make Up

I thought I’d share with you a very worthy cause that I only discovered this week (one that helps women in danger),

which was quite timely considering some of the allegations made against a certain someone whose inauguration took place today.  I am someone who often donates to charity, but when I hear about something that means I can help in a different (and, sometimes, more direct) way then I’m all ears.

Give and Make Up was set up by Caroline Hirons (she of the very successful carolinehirons.com) when she realised she should do something with all the excess make up toiletries that she had received as a (beauty) blogger.

Basically this non-profit organisation aids women and children by giving them the everyday essentials – and a few luxuries – that they leave home without when escaping domestic violence. As Caroline explains, when reading about the anti-domestic violence charity Refuge:

“MY EYES LOCKED ON TO ‘MEDICINES AND TOILETRIES’ AND I THOUGHT OF THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT I HAD SITTING IN MY CUPBOARD AND FELT ASHAMED… GIVE AND MAKEUP STARTED THAT EVENING.”

In other words, if you have unused make up and toiletries (and also clothing, toys and other everyday essentials), you can donate to this wonderful organisation and you know that it’ll go to someone who really needs a spark of positivity in their life at one of their most vulnerable times.

It’s only in the UK but if you know of a similar organisation please leave a link in the comments and I’ll add them to this post.

How Your Unused Make Up and Toiletries Can Help Vulnerable Women - Give & Make Up
I went through my excess “stuff” today and found a ton of things I’m going to put in the post (just a few things are pictured here). There are only so many things I can give away as gifts or use myself – it just felt wrong to throw them out or, rather, recycle them but I couldn’t think what else to do with them.

I’m now happy that they’ll be going to women that really, really need them…!

UPDATE: The US has the Movers For Moms programme which works in a similar way, locations all over the US. Thanks to Roberta for the suggestion!

So all that’s left to say is… LET’S GET THIS [LINK UP] PARTY STARTED!!

Give and make up is a brilliant idea. I was trying to cram a load of toiletries into my bathroom cabinet this evening – the door won't shut. Half of the stuff I will never use. It is crazy. You have solved my bathroom cabinet problem and made me feel good about doing something for a really worthy cause. Thank you. Pen x #brillblogposts

Oh Pen I'm so glad – I thought it was such a great idea, I'm really pleased lots of readers have been embracing it! Although I recycle as much rubbish as I possibly can, new or nearly new stuff going in the bin just seems wrong so like you I just kept it.

I know we have to pay for postage but I see it as a charity donation… Thanks for taking the time to comment! x

That is such a great idea! I know I certainly have plenty of toiletries and make up I don't need… I'll look, too, to see if I can find a similar organization in the US.

Thanks for the link up & have a wonderful weekend, Catherine!

In my Illinois town, there is a moving company that a few years ago started collecting such things for needy women. I save up my unused Birchbox stuff and whatever I collect when I travel and give it to them. I found out this is a national program – they call it Movers for Moms. If you Google them you will find a US location. But before that started, I donated bags of goodies to local women's shelters and the YWCA. I also give them all the things I won't use out of the "free gift with purchase" sets. Those small items are very useful for women carrying all their worldly goods with them. Cheers for mentioning it!

I love this kind of charities. We have something like that in our city. It is a great and easy way to help out to those in need.

Catherine—what a great idea and call to action! I can only imagine there is something like that in the US–I'll have to research it. Because it's silly how much extra "stuff" I'm collecting in my linen closet!!LOL

It's crazy how much most women collate, Jodie – and as bloggers we're often amassing ten times as much because of the all the freebies and goody bags from events! Yes, do please send me details if you find anything similar in the US 🙂
