Red, White & Blue (Espadrilles, Dungarees and Slouch Bag) #iwillwearwhatilike

Sleeveless summer overalls: Red, white and blue outfit - red wedge espadrilles, white dungarees and Panama hat, blue slouchy bag | Not Dressed As Lamb

As today is July 4th of course the #iwillwearwhatilike theme had to be red, white and blue…! Happy Independence Day to my US readers 🙂

Although it’s not a holiday for the UK our flag colours are the same, and the last time I donned this classic colour combo was for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee back in 2012 for my Wake Up, Wake Up, the British are Coming! post. It was all so long ago now, especially as the London Olympics were the same year – but it seems like only yesterday we were applying for tickets hoping to get to see something (anything).

[She wonders where the time has gone and gazes off into the distance momentarily…]

DUNGAREES AGAIN. I HAVE NO REMORSE. WHEN WHITE, WIDE LEGGED CROPPED DUNGAREES WITH A FLATTERING SQUARE NECKLINE ARE HALF PRICE IN THE SALE THEY SIMPLY HAVE TO BE ADDED TO BASKET.

This outfit! Dungarees again. I have no remorse. When white, wide legged cropped dungarees with a flattering square neckline are half price in the sale they simply have to be added to basket. I went a size up because unlike jeans you can pull them in at the waist (depending on the style) with a belt. Luckily the bodice part wasn’t too big – I have a really tiny back so if I go too oversized with anything fitted up top it just sags and bags on me (especially under the arms).

SHOP THE LOOK:

I’ve had my eye on these red lace up espadrilles since inadvertently spotting them after my good friend Lisa of the Sequinist wore a heeled Kurt Geiger pair. I’d wanted espadrilles for this summer, I don’t have any red-red shoes, and I loved Lisa’s heels. Job done.

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up (scroll down for the details) – you may be featured next week if you’ve linked up something red, white and blue!

#iwillwearwhatilike | Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Love this outfit on you. I think the white dungarees really sell it, because if you had worn a blue pair you wouldn't have gotten the same pop out of the outfit. So cute. I don't wear red, white and blue too often. This weekend I did for the holiday, but that is pretty much the only time I do, unless it is a different shade of each color, for instance a brick red with a more sky blue and an off white. That would be doable. I always feel the true red, white and blue is reserved for the holiday…sort of like red and green for Christmas. Ha, ha. – Amy

Just love the colors Catherine. Dungarees are normally not really my cup of tea. But I really love the white and the way you styled them. Nautical theme reloaded. Have a great week. Sabina

Love your festive ensemble! I was thrilled to be included in your review of "favorite summer dresses." Thank you for hosting, Catherine!

Woohoo!! I did a red, white, and blue look, too, dearest Catherine!! Although mine was purely by happy coincidence…it wasn't until I was putting together my outfit post that I realized how appropriate this combo was for the 4th of July!! Your new dungarees/overalls are freaking ADORABLE; I love the cropped, flared hemline…and the fact that you can wear them solo – without a top underneath!! Summertime perfection!! XOXO

Yes I love red, white and blue together! Those espadrilles are gorgeous – I have such a weakness for red shoes! The golden glow of the sun in your photos is beautiful 🙂

Snap! I've just bought some red espadrilles for the summer too Catherine. They're so comfy. You look adorable in these dungarees and that's a great styling tip about going up a size – I always struggle to get that body length working, so will keep that in mind. Have a great week x

I love how you took three blocks of colour and threw them together to create this really fun outfit. The shoes look so sharp yet comfortable. And the square neckline is flattering. This week I almost fit your theme, dark red and white. heh.

What really draws me to this outfit is the subtleness of the red, white & blue! I still haven't joined the fun with the dungarees…but never say never!!
The espadrilles are quite fun & different—definitely a summer must-have!
thanks so much for hosting!! It' so funny because since you'v been touting the I will wear what I like, I always think everyone knows about it. So when my in-person friends talk about fashion rules & what to wear, I'm always surprised! It's my quest to get them up to speed of #iwillwearwhatilike!!
