A Purple Prince Tribute With Florals and Denim #iwillwearwhatilike

Casual Spring Summer look: Floral drape jacket, purple tank, boyfriend jeans | Not Dressed As Lamb

Super casual for the start of the week: Florals, denim and a belated purple tribute to the late, great Prince. This week’s #iwillwearwhatilike theme is purple – I went simple with my purple tank and a pretty lilac nail colour

We actually got to enjoy some warm – and in some parts of the country, hot – temperatures at the weekend, would you Adam and Eve it…?! As we usually say in the UK that was probably summer, been and gone. We’d waited so long for anything resembling mild this year that I don’t think Brits knew what to do with themselves over the weekend!

I did a little window shopping on Friday after a fun day in Exeter with the team from Hobbs (more on that soon) with one of my rare shopping trips in town (I usually buy everything online), and of course window shopping turned into a few impulse buys. My favourite was this gorgeous New Look floral waterfall blazer – the colours are so pretty and the sleeves are slightly ruched so it helps if you like the sleeves-pushed-up look (that then always fall down) like I do.

The rest of the outfit only needed boyfriend jeans and white Stan Smiths – the tan Barella bag added a touch of grown-up just for some contrast.

Next week there’s no theme as I’ll be hosting the 30-40+ Blogger Meet in London: If you’re a UK blogger who’d like to attend a grown-up blogger meet (minus any parenting talk!) then grab one of the last few tickets while you can – it promises to be a great event with a gastro-style sit down lunch, talks and workshops… Hope to see you there!

And of course do add your outfits to this week’s link up and you may be featured next week if you’ve linked up something purple!

#iwillwearwhatilike | Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Indeed a lovely jacket. I seldom see you in floral. Is this outside your comfort zone? Looks very good on you. Casual but elegant and modern. Good choise. I really laughed out loud when I read "I'm freezing, I'm freezing etce etc. Aaaargh bloody hell it's hot" hahaha. That was me as well. Same weather in The Netherlands. I need time to adjust. Don't know which shoes etc.

Lovely tribute idea – and your outfit is festive, fun and uplifting. I love it. I also love purple and have to keep myself from buying yet another purple or pink item every time I shop! LOL Enjoy the meetup – hope you and everyone else post bunches of photos. xoxo

There are always the best outfits in your link ups! I think its because everyone is a little older and has a sense of style! I love to blog about clothes that I love, not necessarily what's in stores right now. Great job!

You look lovely in that floral jacket and purple tee. I have two purple tops…it's a very flattering color on me.

Gorgeous floral topper, C! Sorry about your weather – is that why they say "we shall always have England?" Thanks for hosting, xox

I used to own so much more purple than I do now. I don't really know what happened to it all! It's always been one of my favourite colours too. I wasn't able to link up today because we had friends staying with us for a week and I just didn't get the chance to do any photos shoots lol! I love your outfit though, it's a real me outfit – the kinda thing I love to wear!!
I'm still so sad I can't fly over to attend the meet up. I bet it's going to be bloody brilliant!! 🙁

Great jacket and great spring look!
It's so amazing, i've just made a post last week with the same idea. Ok, almost the same. Denim shirt, floral pants and a bit of purple. It's so inspiring to see such a coincidence! Thank you so much for this LinkUp project!

Yay Catherine! You liked my ruffle topped in my attempt at a makeshift denim jumpsuit! I'll tell you something: I can't get enough off the shoulder tops. I really must stop, but I do like them so, and they suit me, so….you'll all be seeing more of this style on Kremb de la Kremb (in fact today's post features two styles AND Wednesday's post will feature one!).

Catherine, I hope it's ok. I linked up two DIY posts–I know we should only link up outfits, but my DIY posts also feature the item styled in an outfit, so I hope it will pass. If you have to take them down, I totally understand. No hard feelings (ever) there.

Now, as for purple, I could not link up….I am realizing I don't have any purple! What's up with that! Oh wait!! I will link up a stunning sequins dress. But other than that, I don't own any purple. I must remedy that–if even with a basic tee like you–it is so perfect under that stunning flower jacket! What a cute outfit Catherine. Something I'd totally wear–sneakers! Yes! Of course, right?!

Thank you for your link up Catherine. I do love it so! Now I'm going to go share my sequins purple dress–I wore it for my 40th! It was my first outfit. (Yes, I had an outfit change midway through the party. Once the dancing started with an actual disco ball in my living room, I changed into my silver sequin shorts! ;D)

    Love, Ann

That floral print jacket is superb! So wish I could join you all for the blogger meet up, have a fabulous time!

  16. 9 May 2016 / 8:02 pm

Your life is a constant whirlwind of events and outings Catherine, and oh what fun that seems to be! I wish I could join you at the Bloggers meet up, but distance and work commitments are too much to overcome. I will enjoy reading your coverage of the event in due course. In the meantime I have to say thanks for choosing my red underskirt in your frills and ruffles line up this week. It was a brilliantly feminine outfit to wear and I'm delighted and very grateful that you're giving it some extra exposure. Last of all I have to say that your floral jacket has really captured the essence of spring – we're all hoping that it truly has sprung now. My purple offering is very minor by way of these tights, but I thought it was at least a token gesture in honour of one of the greatest singers of our time. Have a brilliant time next week xx

Your description of the weather there this year sounds like most of Canada every year: nine months of brutal, horrific winter — blizzards, power outs, months below freezing, ice storms, etc — about two weeks of spring, then a brutal, sweltering, suffocating summer of two months, then a couple of weeks of autumn… and start all over again. This is why I choose to live on the lovely west coast, where we might have a few weeks of winter sometimes, and we always have a super long, lovely spring and fall, and about two months of summer too hot for this redhead but not so hot I want to puke.

Purple. It's my favourite colour and one Beau very much wanted as part of our wedding. His bespoke shirt was a deep, absorbing indigo, and I wore a subtle, lilac eye shadow to match.

Your outfit is so breezy and casual, very nice indeed. Blazers are a hard one for busty gals like me to find. Yet I love them and am always in search of them. It transforms your outfit from merely casual, to sophisticated as well.

  18. 9 May 2016 / 6:22 pm

Beautiful floral jacket! I just blogged about my printed bomber jacket as well, prints are so great for spring!

I count Purple as a fave colour, right smack in between Red and Black, and here I am, Catherine, left flummoxed as to why I don't own a single item of clothing in, yes, Purple. I suppose a shopping expedition might be called for and soon 🙂

  21. 9 May 2016 / 5:02 pm

Lots of PURPLE from me, since I just did seven weeks of it in my 52 Pick-me-up series.
When I started (3/20), Prince was alive. Now he is gone. Such a loss.
    Thanks for hosting!

I love that feeling-easy-breezy look, Catherine. Glad you FINALLY got some warmth there. Thanks for the link-up. I put up my purple too – I used to dislike the colour, now I like it. Someone told me that purple is an age thing – all old women like purple. Oh yeah? Bring it on!!

  23. 9 May 2016 / 3:47 pm

    Hi Catherine
Love this look! The purple and soft blue combo is so pretty, and your blazer,of course I love the print! Nothing says spring like florals. I forgot the theme this week, but love purple. I have purple tops, sweaters, tanks etc..a great jewel tone with red hair too. Love your bag!

Ok wow, love this floral jacket on you, its so pretty without being fussy, you made such a great choice with the purple vest, it kinda makes the whole look less pretty, more approachable and i hope you know i mean that in the nicest possibly way. I was sweltering this weekend, and today is equally warm and yet raining, which honestly i just don't what to do with it. Rain+hot= confused rachel… porbably best i just stay in my pj's all day then 😉
Hope you have a wonderful week sweetie xxx
Ps I would have loved to have come to your meet.. like LOVED loved to. But Salvatore is working away this month again and im on my own with all my mum duties to get on with. I honestly can't wait to see photos and hear all about it though

Vancouverites and Brits sound a lot alike when it comes to complaining about the weather, dearest Catherine…although I'm such a summer girl that you'll never hear ME say it's too hot!! 😉 On the other hand, more moderate springtime temperatures are ideal for showing off great layering pieces like this gorgeous new floral blazer of yours!! (Alas, I'm not wearing purple in my linkup today…but I AM wearing my floral moto!!) P.S. Your Blogger Meet will be AWESOME…I just know it!! How I wish I could be there, too!! XOXO

I do most of my shopping online these days too especially since we moved away from a larger city and the shopping where we live now just doesn't cut it most of the time. Still did some impulse buys for my husband on the weekend. It has been the same weather here in Ontario so far this year. I feel like I have been cold since November except for a few days here and there in the last month that have been unseasonably HOT!

  28. 9 May 2016 / 2:15 pm

Gorgeous floral in that jacket! Glad you had some nice weather! 🙂

First of all I wish I was in the UK to come to your conference — even if I may not meet the age requirements (I'm an 80 year old at heart tho! Does that count?).

Secondly I can't wait to hear about your next project with Hobbs — you always do such smashing collaborations with them! I can't think of a better brand advocate for them than you!!
