Blush Pink, White and Blue Jacquard Layering #iwillwearwhatilike

Blush pink, white and blue jaquard winter layers | Not Dressed As Lamb

This week I’m all about lovely layers so do come and add your layered outfits to the #iwillwearwhatilike link up this week! The theme is, as always, optional – all outfits are welcome and old posts that follow the theme can be added too.

I battled the wind to get this photo shoot done – we’ve had storm after storm with raging winds and driving rain in the UK recently (not least right now as I type this). So my thick layers of blush sweater and blue jacquard coat were very much needed to keep me warm, and although we had the pleasure of the sun coming out (what are the chances?) it didn’t do anything to increase the temperature.

I’m rather fond of lighter colours at the moment (no particular reason why, maybe I just feel a need to do more laundry…) and I thought Why not? when I looked at my white trousers hanging in my wardrobe. They’re quite thick so pretty good at keeping me warm. The ‘Fab Orange’ lipstick by Maybelline is an unusually bright colour for me as I’m normally a fan of nudes, but I love the added intense colour it gave this outfit.

And I do get asked this question a lot: How do I cope with bare ankles in the winter? Whilst my feet weren’t exactly roasting, my feet really don’t get cold when I’m walking around. There’s something to do with the act of pounding the pavements that just warm my feet up.

When I used to work in an office – i.e. sitting down at a desk in a not-very-well-heated room – my feet would always be freezing even when I wore three pairs of socks and fur-lined boots. I used to go for a walk every lunchtime simply to warm up my feet (and the exercise, and the opportunity to think). If you work in a cold office I can recommend going out for a very brisk walk at lunchtime: It may seem crazy, but believe me as long as you don’t dawdle you’ll be boiling as soon as you step back inside. Do wear suitable sports shoes or similar though, not pointed flats like these…!

What are your layering tips or favourite layering combinations? (And are you able to go sans socks – walking or not – like me? I’d love to know!!) Tell me in the comments or tweet me @notlamb!

#iwillwearwhatilike | Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

RELATED  How I Like to Layer For Warmth AND For Style in Autumn/Winter

So link up all your fabulous outfits (or shoes, accessories, make-up, etc.) every Monday at 3pm UK time – it’ll stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

All I ask of you linking up is that you:

1. Please follow your host Not Dressed As Lamb (via Bloglovin or Instagram)
2. Link up your outfits (blog or Instagram posts) that show how you choose to wear what you like – as many as you like!
3. Please remember this is only for posts of what you’ve been wearing, not links to giveaways or anything else
4. Include a link back to this post if you’re linking from a blog post, or add my button (below)
5. Post your outfit on Instagram (if you use it) with the hashtag #iwillwearwhatilike – Monday’s the day to join in the IG fun
6. Visit some of the other links and share the love!

I can't do bare ankles in winter…not even in bed sometimes! I don't care if they are passion killers! I love the soft colours of your outfit, they are very flattering, and well done for braving the elements, the weather has been atrocious lately. Roll on Spring eh!

Hehe I'm with you on the socks in bed thing, Emma – I often get cold feet in bed!! Why my feet don't cold outside I have no idea…!

Thank you sweetie, glad you liked the outfit x

I love the coat and those 60ies style shoes!!! Love, Kathleen

    • 15 February 2016 / 11:20 am

Thank you Kathleen – they both have a touch of the 60s about them, don't they…?!

  3. 11 February 2016 / 3:15 pm

Really pretty colours! I particularly like the pattern on your coat – that's gorgeous. I'm slowly moving away from wearings really dark clothes as I think colour suits a lot better when you are 40+. Glad to hear that you are now recovering and hope that you will be back to running soon! I started in September aged 44 and love it :).

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:48 pm

Wow Denise – thanks for the lovely comments, and yes I think lighter colours have a lot to do with making us look brighter and younger as we age. Good luck with the running, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! xx

Sorry that I'm a little late to the linkup party this time, dearest Catherine…we had a holiday on Monday (woohoo!) which meant my normal weekday blogging schedule went out the window!! 😉 And layers were "out" for me as well; we've had several days of lovely springlike weather that I simply HAD to celebrate with some equally springlike outfits!! I'm not holding my breath that winter is actually over just yet, though…and your adorable ensemble – that pompom beanie! the pretty pink and blue! – have reminded me that cold weather has its merits, too!! P.S. LOVE the tangerine lippy on you!! XOXO

Aww thanks Monika – lucky you having spring-like weather!! You're a sweetheart, thank you x

Oh that's a good word, Patti – the colours ARE rather soothing, aren't they…?! Thanks sweetie x

It's my pleasure, Jalynn – and thank you! x

So that's how you keep your ankles warm!! I shall have to try it next time I want to wear an outfit where socks are a no-no lol!
    You look fabulous, Catherine!

I have seen so many women walking around sockless in winter lately. Thank you for setting the record straight – that you don't necessarily get cold feet. You look great in this colour palette.
Around the house i wear socks half on, one half dragging in front of my feet, my heels like to breathe. Thanks for the linkup. I'm so busy it's great I can link up through IG which saves time.

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:41 pm

Haha I now have an image in my head of you shuffling round the house with socks half on your feet, Melanie!! Glad you're happy to use IG, it's a good system! Thanks sweetie xx

Love you rocking that Rose Quartz sweater! I have yet to do an outfit post on my new blog, Great Green Heron, but once I do, it'll definitely be in layers! It's supposed to be well below freezing here for a while!

Thank you Sabra – I hope you'll link up when you do! Stay warm x

  8. 9 February 2016 / 9:54 pm

I very much enjoy seeing you in pastels, Catherine, particularly during the colder months when richer, darker shades are more of the norm 🙂 when it comes to my feet, I have to have socks particularly as my shoe of choice is (typically) boots. You know, I don't own a single pair of flats. I just realised that. Ah well. I prefer to live vicariously through yours, I'm far too short to do them any justice GRIN xoxo

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:36 pm

OMG I can't believe you don't have ONE pair of flats, Sheela… really?!!!! That's incredible!! Thanks sweetie, hehe x

  9. 9 February 2016 / 7:07 pm

    Hello my friend
I just bought a beanie hat very similar, very stylish 🙂 and warm. Love the cute flats and the gorgeous pinky peach sweater on you. The print on your jacket is wonderful and I really like the mix of colors with the yellow tone in your shoes. Looking lovely with the coral lips and nails too!

  10. 9 February 2016 / 2:33 pm

    Hi lovely lady!

I'd love to know how you manage to look elegant in a knitted hat. Every time I try to wear one I end up looking like Benny from Crossroads – remember him?

Great post as always, and thank you for the link up.

    Much love
    Michelle xx

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:33 pm

Hehe thanks Michelle – yes I definitely remember Benny from Crossroads…! I think a lot of it has to do with whether you feel comfortable wearing one (which I do when it comes to hats) – you have to admit I still have a touch of the Benny about me here!!

Great layering and I love your coat.

Another great coat! I really would love to have a light springy coat, something for my wish list.

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:12 pm

Thanks Laurie – the jacquard does make a nice change from wool…! x

  13. 8 February 2016 / 8:50 pm

BTW, it is nice to see that coat again!

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:11 pm

yay for the jacquard coat!! thanks sweetie :))

  14. 8 February 2016 / 8:49 pm

I can tolerate bare ankles if the rest of me is roasty toasty (thermal layers under my clothes) and I have sheepskin liners in my shoes!
Otherwise I need my cosy socks or tights.
I know what you mean about sitting and getting chilled. I happens so easily, even in a warm building.
A lunchtime walk is a great idea, although my 45 minutes is dedicated to eating! :oD
Thank you for hosting your link up.

P.S The bolder lip is working really well…loving that shade!

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:11 pm

Aww thanks for all the lovely comments Samantha – and I'm glad to hear your 45 mins is spent eating (at least you're not working through and taking your lunch break)!! x

  15. 8 February 2016 / 7:43 pm

ooh love the coat! today I'm linking up after a looong time! Maybelline does beautiful orange lipsticks! I have vibrant mandarin which is the perfect "red" for me, but I also go for nudes so I rarely wear it!

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:09 pm

Thanks Anna – and welcome back! Funnily enough this lipstick also looks more of a tomato red in real life than it does in the pictures… The bright sun seemed to bring out the true orange in it! x

  16. 8 February 2016 / 7:29 pm

That orange lipstick is super flattering on you, Catherine. You look wonderful as always and you always do layers right. I'm a big fan of the lunchtime walk too! We don't really need it in California to warm up as much as it's such a healthy mental break as a teacher to get away from classrooms and kids, even if it's only 20 minutes!

    Thanks for the link up!

Thanks so much Dawn Lucy – as much as I love wearing bright colours I'm a bit nervous about bright colours on my face!! And I'm very envious of your year-round warm weather… I can't imagine how wonderful that must be! x

  17. 8 February 2016 / 4:49 pm

Such a pretty pale outfit. I think my favorite little detail is the bracelet.

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:04 pm

      Aww thanks Nicole – it's a special bracelet…! :))

  18. 8 February 2016 / 4:22 pm

I would get frostbite around my ankles if I went sockless even with the amount of mileage I walk in a day! I don't have Raynaud’s syndrome but I do have poor circulation in my extremities so I have to wear gloves and socks to avoid that ache that comes in cold temperatures.
These colours just work so well on you, Catherine. I love the print of the coat – good to see it again!

    http://petitesilvervixen.blogspot.co.uk/

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:02 pm

Poor circulation does play a big part, Jacqueline – and I have to wear gloves when it's even remotely chilly, so my feet and hands just don't match!! Thank you sweetie, I'm glad I got to wear this coat again 🙂

  19. 8 February 2016 / 4:07 pm

I LOVE your shoes- WANT them!!!

    xo,
    Janise

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:01 pm

Thanks Janise – they're one of my favourite pairs of flats, that's why I got them in two colourways…!!

  20. 8 February 2016 / 3:57 pm

    Great layering.
Very brave to take photos in such a bad weather. We watch Sky news every morning, so we know.
Here is all about sun, so come and join me.
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    • 13 February 2016 / 1:00 pm

Thank you Sacramento – we need some of your Spanish sun, pronto!!!

    • 13 February 2016 / 12:59 pm

Thanks Jaymie – though I remember you saying that before, I most definitely DO wear socks when it's cold enough or I'm not moving around… You're hard core!! 😉

  21. 8 February 2016 / 3:54 pm

My mom always says that (aren't your feet cold?) when I wear my flats–but I find when the rest of me is quite bundled—it keeps my extremities warmer (plus I sometimes cheat and put on a pair of tights or hosiery!!) And as a shoe girl—those flats rock!! jodie
    http://www.jtouchofstyle.com

    • 13 February 2016 / 12:58 pm

Hehe sounds like you're like me, Jodie!! Though my feet are always one extreme or the other, depending on what I'm doing…! Thanks sweetie x

  22. 8 February 2016 / 3:48 pm

I absolutely love this cozy look and the colors. Except, I just can't go sock-less in my climate. I'd have frost bite in minutes.

    • 9 February 2016 / 10:09 am

I think it does depend exactly how cold your weather gets whether you go sockless or not, doesn't it Amy…?!! Thank you sweetie, glad you liked the outfit! x

  23. 8 February 2016 / 3:47 pm

I love layers. Love playing with sweaters, wraps and coats. Love your color choices, and wish I looked good in hats because I love yours!! Thank you for hosting Catherine! SHOE AND TELL is Live today too.

    • 8 February 2016 / 8:52 pm

Thanks so much Cherie!! I like a good bit of layering too, though I'm also rather partial to a hat 😉

  24. 8 February 2016 / 3:43 pm

I've always sucked at layering…I have some thing in my brain that just wants to put on one top and one pair of trousers or a skirt and be done with it. However, this being Scotland, necessity has finally introduced me to the beauty of wearing things on top of each other. It only took 44 years!
    http://www.highlandfashionista.com

    • 8 February 2016 / 8:51 pm

I can imagine it's a case of survival of the fittest in Scotland, Kristin – and if you don't layer I reckon you probably wouldn't survive, hehe…!! Thanks for linking up! x

  25. 8 February 2016 / 3:40 pm

It's a lovely look! I would have toes so cold I couldn't feel them though if I went around with no socks this time of year! Plus I'm generally drenched from the knees down, so it's boots all the way until at least March. Your lippy is particularly pretty xx

    • 8 February 2016 / 8:49 pm

Hehe thanks Porcelina – although we've had so much rain here in the south west I think you probably get even more in Wales! x

  26. 8 February 2016 / 3:33 pm

Neutrals and lighter colours always look so classy on redheads, I'm a bit envious. I would not wear these colours myself, they would just drain me.
As for socks… Well, I do wear socks in winter(with typical temperatures ranging from 0 to -20) I often wear knee socks, never mind how cold it is, because I can't stand tights under trousers (too much layering for my taste).

    • 8 February 2016 / 8:48 pm

Aww thanks Tiina – funnily enough I do wear tights under trousers if it's cold enough!! x

  27. 8 February 2016 / 3:21 pm

I really like this outfit! The blush, blue & whites look great on you! I also really like the brighter lip color! I usually wear neutral lip colors but have been experimenting more with brighter colors lately and like that it often looks "fresher."

    • 8 February 2016 / 8:48 pm

I know what you mean about it looking fresher, Charlotte – I've also realised it adds a bit of colour that my face needs in the winter…! Thank you sweetie! x
