A week ago today the death of David Bowie left many of us reeling. I’m sure most of you will agree he was an inspiration in terms of his music, his style and his creativity – and his reputation for being an all-round decent bloke.
I thought it only fitting that I dedicated this week’s #iwillwearwhatilike link up to Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Halloween Jack, the Thin White Duke and the Goblin King. The man that I thought was the most beautiful man I’d ever seen, aged 10, when he bleached his hair and wore head to toe cream in the Let’s Dance video. I’m absolutely gutted he’s gone.
If you have any outfit posts, new or old, that are in any way inspired by David Bowie (see my #iwillwearwhatilike Pinterest board for inspiration) then please link them up and make sure you add “Bowie” somewhere in the text under the thumbnail so I know which are Bowie-inspired to feature next week! Otherwise PLEASE continue to link up all your outfits and accessories from your blogs or Instagram, everything’s welcome as always π
I’ve featured some of the outfits I’ve worn over the years on the blog with my David Bowie as Aladdin Sane t-shirt. It’s now treasured even more than it was before, and I’m wearing it today with pride too.
You may have seen this tweeted last week, supposedly (but not actually) from Simon Pegg:
“IF YOU’RE EVER SAD, JUST REMEMBER THE WORLD IS 4.543 BILLION YEARS OLD AND YOU SOMEHOW MANAGED TO EXIST AT THE SAME TIME AS DAVID BOWIE.” – @JeSuisDean
It wasn’t Simon Pegg at all it seems, it was tweeted by Dean Podestá the day before Bowie died. Podestá had no knowledge at all that he was ill – it goes to prove just how much of an effect Bowie had on people even before all the tributes started pouring in. (To be fair it was subsequently quoted by another Simon Pegg on Twitter, just not the actor.)
The man was probably one of the coolest people ever to have walked the earth, and no matter who wrote the quote I couldn’t agree with it more ❤

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
So link up all your fabulous outfits (or shoes, accessories, make-up, etc.) every Monday at 3pm UK time – it’ll stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
My favourite ANIMAL PRINT outfits from last week’s link up (there were so many amazing ones I had to feature eight this week)!
(Top row, L-R) Teatime with Trina | Cato in Amsterdam | Suzanne Bell | Two Take on Style
(Bottom row, L-R) The Daily Lace | Stylish Salat | Kremb de la Kremb | She She Show
NEXT WEEK:
THE OPTIONAL THEME FOR 25 JANUARY IS PANTONE’S COLOUR OF THE YEAR – ROSE QUARTZ AND/OR SERENITY (BLUE)
All I ask of you linking up is that you:
1. Please follow your host Not Dressed As Lamb (via Bloglovin or Instagram)
2. Link up your outfits (blog or Instagram posts) that show how you choose to wear what you like – as many as you like!
3. Please remember this is only for posts of what you’ve been wearing, not links to giveaways or anything else
4. Include a link back to this post if you’re linking from a blog post, or add my button (below)
5. Post your outfit on Instagram (if you use it) with the hashtag #iwillwearwhatilike – Monday’s the day to join in the IG fun
6. Visit some of the other links and share the love!
Copy and paste this HTML code into your blog post or side bar:
Do share the love and visit as many links as you can (you never know what other lovely like-minded ladies you might meet) – the original Instagram campaign forged some wonderful new relationships so don’t miss out!
P.S. Don’t forget to in the UK Blog Awards! Please keep voting every day until 25th January – thank you so much for all the support!!
(you can vote every day!)
Crikey, I'm commenting so late on all your posts as I'm doing a ctach-up. You have too many interesting articles to comment on π .
As a true child of the 60's/'70s I loved the Ziggy Stardust phase. So ahead of its time and you can see the influence Bowie had on punk style-wise. I couldn't believe it when my friend casually let slip that she'd seen on the Ziggy tour at the Glasgow Apollo AGED 7!! How cool is that? At high school we all loved the Scary Monsters phase and album. By the way I'm writing this post-Grammys when Lady Gaga did her tribute – didn't she rock it?
Funny post script – years ago DB was doing a comeback after being away for some time. My friend and I were discussing his recent interview where he'd announced his upcoming world tour. "Did you see Bowie on TV last night?" she asked me. "Not bad for his age!" The tour was the Serious Moonlight one and he was looking good at the grand old age of… 36!! Which is ancient when you're 17 π .
Better late than never as they say, Emerald!! And the Serious Moonlight tour years were his most gorgeous IMO… I was about 11 and totally struck by his bleached blonde hair and the cream suits. That image of him in Australia never, ever left me – I had no idea how old he was but I thought he was stunning, and I was only 11!!
I can't believe your friend saw him as Ziggy Stardust – both my sisters actually saw him on tour in Australia itself in about '83. I was jealous as hell at the time…!! Thanks so much for all your lovely comments xx
Not sure how I missed this post until now but I am A HUGE DAVID BOWIE FAN! This tribute makes my soul so happy — I've been listening to Bowie all month nonstop… RIP Ziggy.

Hasn't it been so sad, Ashley? Still can't believe it. Long live the Thin White Duke β€
I adore Sheree of She She Show. She is absolutely flawless when it comes to putting outfits together and it's a downright shame I've never yet met her in person since we (apparently) don't live too far from each other π I must amend that situation xoxo
Your comment seems to have cut off, Sheela – I assume you were going to say it was a downright shame about Bowie perhaps…? But yes I agree with you about She She Show – this outfit of hers was incredible!! x
I have to admit that I wasn't really a David Bowie fan, but regardless, I considered him a brilliant musician and artist. It's very sad that so many influential people have passed this year already and we're still in January. Your T-shirt is very cool…I only have one band T-shirt and that's AC/DC who are absolutely my favourite band. I love cheeky little Angus in his school uniform!

I know, Emma – what's going on with all the greats passing away…?! But AC/DC is a VERY cool band tee to have! x
Thanks for hosting, and for the lovely Bowie tribute. He's not replaceable, just unforgettable. Whenever I hear "Lazarus" I have to cry again. xox

I adore your tribute post to David Bowie. He was one-of-a kind. I loved his music and his flair. Enjoyed seeing all of your older posts with the tee shirt – very cool! Oh, and I also am loving the new look of your blog. Thank you for hosting! Come on over to SHOE AND TELL, not just for shoes, FASHION LINK UP on STYLE NUDGE. Thank you Cherie so much, I'm glad you like the new-look blog! I'll pop over to your linky sweetie x
As a girl who loves rock-and-roll fashion moments, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't own a SINGLE band t-shirt!! (What's wrong with me?!) Your own Bowie tee makes a terrific tribute to the music (and style!) icon, dearest Catherine…he will be missed. π

Aww thanks Monika – though I am surprised about your lack of rock tees, I would have thought you'd have several! x
Totally devastated by his death. Every time I wear a pair of red shoes I am reminded of the song – Put On Your Red Shoes And Dance The Blues. Such a sad week π
Thank you for the link up and hope you are feeling better.
Much love as always, Michelle xx
Thanks Michelle my lovely – I too think the same about red shoes. Not gonna get over this one easily π
He was such a talented man that was so clever at reinventing himself. Very creative. Thank you for the link up xx
Wasn't he, Rachel…? Thank you x
So sad that a great talent was taken early. David Bowie was one of the first artist I listened to.Love the T shirt and how you have styled.
Thank you for hosting
Laurie x
Thanks Laurie – I have much older brothers and sisters and loved what they loved, so of course when I was v young in the 70s I thought he was so amazing. It never went away…!
I love your tribute to the great Bowie, so beautiful. Your tee, and all the ways your wore it is so fabulous – and I think your hair is so cute up with the headband, so pretty! Thank you for including me in the roundup of animal print. I was inspired by your snake/python bootie to get my trench out, and I am so happy I did. It is truly an honor to be included this week, with all these fashionable ladies that I so admire for the style, and desire to wear- whatever they like! Thank you for this weeks inspiration! XOXO Suzanne
Your snakeskin print trench is the bomb, Suzanne! So glad to have featured you :))
For me he'll always be the Goblin King.
I haven't seen it in years and years, Alex – must track it down and see it again! For me it was the Let's Dance video. Sooooooooo beautiful…!
I'm also devastated by Bowie's death – cried for days. My designer friend Amanda Valentine designed a line of blanket coats named after Bowie albums. I got the Aladdin Sane (pics on blog soon. Already one on IG). Later this year, if it all works out, I'll be producing a fashion show featuring disabled, curvy, 40+, and everything in between. I'm dedicating the show to Bowie and using his music as the soundtrack.

WOW, Alicia – that sounds incredible!! Not just the event but the use of Bowie music, it will lend itself to a catwalk show really well I think…!
David Bowie was such a great musician and influenced so many artist. I love your tribute to him.

Beautiful collection of photos to remind us of one of the icons of our time. David Bowie was a legend who informed my love of music, fashion (especially his use of colour) and video. His impact on our culture will be felt forever.

Love your tribute to Bowie. Great outfits you created with the Bowie tee.

Joly Look
aww thanks Catherine x
Great Bowie T-shirt, Catherine. You've styled it in so many cool ways over the years. I forgot to write Bowie under the thumbnail but it's the high drama of this photo I put up that feels Bowie to me, and the elevated hair. I can't get those words "Ground control to Major Tom" out of my head!!
Thanks Melanie! I've had several Bowie songs in my head permanently over the last week, and I'm not complaining. Currently I'm on the same one as you, as well as Heroes. Thanks so much for linking up a Bowie-inspired post…! x
A fitting tribute to an extraordinary talent who never stood still and was always creating. My favourite Bowie just happens to be the tee you're wearing!

That lightning make up for Aladdin Sane was pretty spectacular, wasn't it Jacqueline – thank you sweetie x
The track which resonated most with me, for many reasons including the obvious, was China Girl. Mr Bowie was beyond being a sartorial inspiration. He was, quite simply for me, the embodiment of style evolution, always playing dress-up. Be it clad in a baroque waistcoat or the most tattered of tees, he remained ever debonair and refined. What a chameleon.
What a wonderful way to describe him, Sheela! The world is a sadder place without him π
One of the brightest stars no longer shines in our sky.
Being an 80's girl and HUGE David Bowie fan, I LOVE THIS!! Great tribute and how adorable you look!!!!
Aww thanks Andrea, I was too x
Love your tribute to the late/great Bowie.
thanks Nicole x

thanks so much Elise! x
I'm absolutely loving this post Catherine and your tee is so fab! I LOVE the Let's Dance album and had the pleasure of meeting and hang with Bowie's producer, Nile Rodgers, some years ago who is a great inspiration too. Love, Kirsten xx
http://www.thelifbissue.com
OMG wow, Kirsten – that's sooooo amazing to have met Nile Rodgers! How incredible for anyone who ever met Bowie too :))
Thanks sweetie x
Hi Catherine
I think whether one is a musician ( like myself) or not, they can appreciate Bowie, I love Major Tom, Let's Dance, some more obscure ones. I should of thought to "put on my red shoes…" Love your shirt, very colorful and artistic, nice tribute! I also like the various ways you styled it!
Have a great week!
jess xx

Wow I didn't think of red shoes either, Jess!! That would have been a great idea. And thank you, you too have a great week x
Dear Catherine you look lovely in skirt and dresses, but I must say that jeans show your lovely figure soooooooooooooooooo well (jealous, but good kind of jealous, lol)
David for ever!!!
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Aww thank you Sacramento – I need to get back on the treadmill asap if I want to get back into those jeans though…!! My back/leg is healing fast so not long to go :))
I was and still am totally blown away by his death. He has made some of my favourite songs ever and he was always a style inspiration.
On a lighter note: thank you for including me in last week's favourites! Xx Carin
I still am to, Carin π
And you are most welcome – well done for wearing a bird print, I think you were the only one! x
Great tee, he will be missed! Alan Rickman too.
Thanks Laurie, and to AR as well. What a sad week it was…!
Bowie was a great artist and such a huge part of my youth, too. I still listen to that music… Have great wee, Catherine!
Thanks Tiina – and I couldn't agree with you more about DB. What a guy π
