Oversized Shearling and Suede Gilet With a Vintage 60s Hat

Shearling/suede gilet, vintage 60s hat
HOW huge and furry and warm and gorgeous is this shearling gilet?!

It’s the warmest thing to come out of my (go into my?) wardrobe since my mum bought me a red all-in-one padded ski suit when I was four and we lived in Canada. Except I also wore a red balaclava with that, but here I went easy on the headgear and only went for a vintage 60s baker boy hat I got from eBay.

IT’S THE WARMEST THING TO COME OUT OF MY (GO INTO MY?) WARDROBE SINCE MY MUM BOUGHT ME A RED ALL-IN-ONE PADDED SKI SUIT WHEN I WAS FOUR AND WE LIVED IN CANADA.

In fact I’ve waited since July to wear this cutie (the hat I mean) – I think I was shopping for something else entirely and happened to see this pop up. It’s one of those Marmite items that people will either love or hate, but I absolutely adore it. I love the fact that it looks undoubtedly vintage and has a random brooch on the front. I feel like Barbra Streisand in What’s Up Doc, and that’s no bad thing.

I’ll see you back here on Monday for the #iwillwearwhatilike link up: Sportswear’s the theme. And if you follow me on Instagram you may see a few pictures from Paris while I’m there for a quick 24 hour press trip tomorrow… It’s nice to get a chance to go and show my support for that wonderful city, albeit in a very small way.

Finally, if you scroll down you may just get to see that red ski suit I talked about. It’s class. But then so are the rest of my family’s 70s outfits….!

Here’s that red ski suit I mentioned (with the hood down, c.1976). I’ll let you decide who’s the most stylish in my family (L-R: Mum, eldest sister, brother, me, middle sister): My vote goes to my mum. Her coat isn’t unlike my white fur wedding coat. But she wore hers with PINK trousers and black gloves to match her hair. Wow.

Wow, that looks like if you were to look up the word cozy in the dictionary , your shearling vest would be there! Love it and the look, the hat really completes it. Love it!

I can't tell how many of these shearling vests I have tried on and thought they looked horrible on me. How do you do it? It looks fabulous on you! Love this cozy, warm look!

Catherine~that cap is fabulous and looks so perfect on you! And the vest, I love the longer length. It looks like a super cozy highly fashionably warm blanket you can wear it public! Enjoy your trip!

I voted for you to win the award. I think your mum definitely was the most stylish one. I love your hat/cap and boots. The whole outfit is fun but I always think: now… I would either be too hot in this or too cold (sleeveless and I do not agree). But it makes a pretty picture.

Shearling coats are one of my favorite fall/winter outfit when it comes to layering. I wish I could wear it more often. You're looking good by pairing this shearling coat with the hat.
I've also just voted for you. Wishing the best to you and hope you'll win it! =)

Love the vest Catherine. Especially with those boots. And that hat. I'm a big vintage hat lover… just bought new one a couple of weeks ago that I definitely did NOT need… but had to have.

I love the hat, it's very cute and I'm always drawn to a vintage or one off piece. The gilet is awesome too, it looks so cosy, I think Seb would have it covered with dog have if I got one though!

You are so cute in that photo…..and your Mum's double!
I'm afraid your brother (and you) lose the style war in that one though. Your sisters look chic (especially middle in her hat and HUGE flares) I love it!
Your outfit made me smile today…I have a similar gilet, which I was putting on my blog tonight after work before looking to see what my favourite bloggers were doing. Spooky, but very cool too!
I love how you have style this!
I always struggle with headwear when it comes to these oversized gilets.
A beret looks a bit out of place, but this 60's hat look great. Just enough structure.
I need to go looking for a new hat this weekend (I am off shopping…which means coffee and lunch and cocktails with a couple of shops thrown in).
    Thank you for the inspiration.

Thanks my lovely – you're a bit of a hat connoisseur so that's a great compliment coming from you! x
