70s Style Boho Blouse, Flared Jeans and Converse

70s style - flared jeans, boho blouse, Converse

That’s it, I’ve gone full-on 70s style.

The temptation to pair my boho blouse with my Marks & Spencer flared jeans was too much: I usually say don’t go for a head-to-toe retro look from one specific decade unless you want to recreate that era, but this was one of those times that I did. (Want to recreate that era, I mean.)

I also know that the way the flared jeans trend is ‘meant’ to be worn this season is with (block) heels, but to be honest it was the weekend, I was walking to the supermarket and I just wanted to be practical and comfortable. So I reached for my Converse Chuck Taylors. And did a centre parting. And if that’s not 70s style, I don’t know what is…! The only exception to the 70s theme was my new white leather backpack from Asos. I’ve been looking for a smart backpack for a while (my mini plaid backpack just doesn’t look right in the summer), and I think this one will see me through the winter as well – I liked the contrast of the white leather against an off-white boho lace blouse.

I must mention the jeans as I’m gutted that these M&S ones are sold out; they’re the perfect flared jeans with the front patch pockets I’d been longing for all year… I’d tried on a few and none were as flattering as these.

Are you into the flared jeans yet? I was thinking of doing a post where I road-test a selection  of high street flared jeans – is this of interest to anyone? Let me know in the comments!

I would call this a pretty blouse. Don't know whether it qualifies for boho. Never mind, it is the 70ies style for sure (I know, I was 16-26 in that decade). Very good retro look. And I have recently bought a flared pair of jeans too. Have to wear it with heels though, as they are very long.

This look is so fresh and crisp….with a boho spin.
I think the Converse work perfectly.
The bag keeps the whole look modern.
    Lovely, late summer look.

I remember the first time Seventies styles came back in when I was in high school in the Nineties…not sure if I want to go quite THAT flared again (especially now I've finally got used to skinny jeans!). As a collector and seller of vintage clothing it's so fascinating to see the cycle of trends as well as to wonder why some never come back – that's at least three times now with flared jeans but bustles haven't made much of a reappearance yet πŸ˜‰

haha we should bring back the bustle, Jenny!! I remember the 70s revival in the 90s very clearly too… I'm just glad the overplucked eyebrow hasn't reappeared. That would be a step too far :((

I think I have the same jeans! They are so great and I really love their fit. Go M&S!! Love this look Catherine, the detailing on your blouse is so beautifully subtle. πŸ™‚

    Take care,

This is one of my favourite looks I've seen on you so far (bearing in mind I only discovered you a few weeks ago though lol!). I'm a huge fan of flares (I wore them when they weren't in fashion), but the trouble I have is that my favourite pair (from Promod) are too long to wear with Converse and I can't chop off the bottoms as I'll lose the flare effect. I'm loving your bag too. Basically I love everything about this look!

Thanks Suzy for your lovely comments!! The length of flares does pose a problem when it comes to shoes – it's as if we need to buy two pairs in different lengths to accommodate both heels and flats. Luckily the length of mine is perfect for flats (literally half an inch off the floor) so I think I may have to shop around for a pair for heels… Oh dear, more shopping! πŸ˜‰

Such a cute look, I can't resist going full 70's/boho sometimes either! I need those jeans! πŸ™‚

Hehe thanks Steff! It's such a shame M&S didn't make them available for longer, they were the perfect flared jean IMO…!

I typically prefer my flare jeans with shoes with a heel but it looks great with the converse too!

I have to admit I do too, Alice, but that day there was no way I was wearing heels to walk to the shops…! Thank you x

Great look Catherine, I love flared jeans. I have a few pair from years ago waiting for me to lose a few pounds still!!

I think it's taken a while for people to get used to them again, Clairejustine (especially after skinnies being in for so long), but I definitely think it's time for a change. And I know you'll fit into yours in no time with your dedication to your fitness! :))

The 70s look is clearly your jam! Love these jeans on you!
