Quick Opinion Poll | Hair and Make Up Video Tutorials for the Over 40s?

Quick opinion poll: Hair and make up tutorials for the over 40s? Are they of any interest?
Happy Easter Monday…! A quick opinion poll today: I’m going to be branching out into YouTube next and am thinking about what videos to make. If you could spare me 30 seconds to tell me what you’re interested in I’d be really grateful.

I do get asked questions about my hair and make up quite a lot, but I’m not sure whether video tutorials are the sort of thing that would interest you. I know YouTube is very popular with those who are a little younger than me (and a lot younger than me!), but it’s hard to know whether 40+ readers are interested.

I’m thinking there may be a gap in the YouTube market for 40+ make up tutorials, and ones about hair aren’t age-related but I am asked how I do my hair styles. So please could you let me know…

Are YouTube hair and make up tutorials (geared towards 40+) of any interest to you?

I think it's a great idea, the whole you tube thing. I poften have thought about doing tips on make upfor us older women in our 50's. But I am so not confident!

The hopefully once I get them up and running they'll help for some ideas, Laurie!! :))

I cannot vote because I haven't got hair that can be helped by anything rather than my hairdresser. Sleek, straight hair and little of it.
Make-up is something I am absolutely not interested in (strange isn't it?) so any tutorial, video or otherwise… Not for me. But to answer you underlying question, I think video tutorials are very good for any age as long as you have something to demonstrate. I sometimes see videos of an outfit from 6 angles or somebody is talking to me for 5 minutes, ot there is a Google hang-out with 5 participants… I find them all too boring to look at, no matter how cleaver,y they were made. I admire the people who made them, but only for demonstrations or fun/laughter do I want to see video. Does this help?

hehe yes it does help, Greetje – thank you! I think the thing about being talked at for ages without actually demonstrating anything is particularly dull as well, so we're on the same wavelength there. (Much like outfit posts when there's 10 pictures of the outfit from the same angle and distance with just the slightest variation in pose).

So thank you – basically we're saying "Don't make them dull"!!! ;))

Yes please, I would be really interested in this, especially make up. Lorraine x

I love watching make-up videos but there aren't many for the over 40's. Fantastic idea x

Suzanne I really appreciate the feedback – thank you x

Go for it, this would be super! x

Thanks Porcelina – I'm really glad you think so! x

I use youtube for this all the time. There are lot's of hair tutorials that would be suitable for +40, but less makeup. If I could wish for something it would also be posts to your blog about it with tutorial photos. They work equally well and are much quicker to watch :-).

I did have trouble finding 40+ make up tutorials myself, Mette, so I'm pleased you'd be interested. And yes, I'd probably run the odd relevant one as a tutorial within a post with images. Thanks hun πŸ™‚

youtube is so popular, hair, makeup and skin care products are always good

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:31 pm

I was thinking skin care as well, Linda… it's very different for the 40+ so I'm glad to hear you'd like to see some of that too, thank you x

Excellent, Martina – thank you so much πŸ™‚

Hi Catherine, I am a big fan of Lisa Eldridge videos to see what kind of makeup she does, especially because she is not as young as some of the other beauty vloggers, plus the fact that she is a professional makeup artist. It would be interesting to see what kind of makeup tutorials you offer. I say go for it! xx

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:30 pm

Gosh I LOVE Lisa Eldridge, Jill!! She does have an amazing face even without any make up though and looks about 20 years younger than she actually is. But thank you, I'm glad to hear they'd be of interest to you! C x

Definitly both Catherine, I've been thinking of going along that route to but havent actually had the guts to do so yet. I think there is a HUGE gap in the market for 40s and upwards. The market is saturated with younger (although they are fantastic!) beautiful beauty/hair youtubers which I watch with envy at their amazing skin with no wrinkles. I for one would be interested in make up for age range……so a big thumbs up from me xxx

Hi Catherine, great of you to check with us first! I have been seeking advice from YouTube tutorials but find it very hard to do in the end. I ve wanting to find out how I make up my face without looking to makeuppy. I find enough films but they are all from people being made up by someone else or they do the total cake-face. what I wanted to know is how I apply the stuff myself….ended up at Bobbi Brown for a one to one tutorial and I' ve got it sussed now ( and very broke but happy) would love to see what you come up with! Point noted about cake-face, Irmin… I tend to do natural looks for myself anyway! Thanks for the feedback, it's very useful x

I've just seen that the "Vote" button wasn't there (been on the road for four hours while the post went live) – don't know why it didn't work properly… it's there now!

Please vote – thank you :))

I am not near 30 but I lovw your blog and your hair colour and I would like to watch hair tutorials πŸ˜‰

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:26 pm

Thanks Ivana, I'm so pleased you'd be interested x

  13. 6 April 2015 / 4:57 pm

I just watched a good one by Sali Hughes on how to do a smokey eye, I'm 50 – so I would say yes!

  14. 6 April 2015 / 3:30 pm

Yes please. There is a massive gap in the You Tube market for hair and beauty tutorials AND fashion related videos too. Can't wait for your channel!

    • 6 April 2015 / 3:32 pm

I meant to say that the gap in the You Tube market was for the over 40s obviously! The excitement got to me then !

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:25 pm

Hehe now worries Angie, I knew what you meant! Thank you, it's good to know x

  15. 6 April 2015 / 3:27 pm

Yes please! Hair and make-up tutorials would be wonderful. In particular I've searched and searched for make-up for glasses wearers, but never found anything very helpful. I tried to vote, but it isn't working for me. So count me as a yes!

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:25 pm

That's a good point about make up for glasses wearers, I'll have to keep that in mind Nellie! Thank you x

  16. 6 April 2015 / 3:10 pm

Oh, I would say there is most definitely a huge gap and I would love to see more videos from women my own age! πŸ™‚ I'd particularly like to see makeup tutorials but that's just because my hair doesn't really "do" anything other than be curly! Though I do love that braid pictured above, I would like to see how you did that! πŸ™‚

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:24 pm

Thanks Steff, that's good to know that you'd be interested…!

  17. 6 April 2015 / 2:28 pm

Yes, hair and make tutorials! (sshhhhhhh but I turn 40 in a couple of weeks eeek!)

    • 6 April 2015 / 6:39 pm

I have really long hair like you and you inspire me to keep it long! I love all the different styles I can do with my long hair. I think many people think that wen you each a certain age, you should go short. But I really don't want to. You give me loads of tips and I love your blog thank you!

    • 7 April 2015 / 5:23 pm

Tracy thank you so much, you're such a sweetheart! I'm glad to say that I think the thing about cutting your hair short when you turn 40 is very old-fashioned now, and thank goodness. BTW shout it from the rooftops about being 40, it's a GOOD thing!!!!!
