White Coat With Tartan Scarf and Patterned Tights Under Distressed Jeans

Winter style: Long white coat, tartan scarf, distressed jeans
Here’s something I saw on Pinterest that I actually tried straight away (yes it does happen!): Patterned tights under distressed jeans. It solves so many problems…

  • How do I keep my legs warm in the winter when my jeans have holes in them?
  • What do I wear on my feet with my monk shoes, brogues or loafers when I don’t want to wear socks?
  • How can I get more use out of all those patterned tights I bought when it’s too cold to wear skirts?

So Pinterest isn’t just a highly addictive social media platform that keeps us entertained for hours on end pinning things we’ll never bake, sew, wear, construct, paint, knit, build, cook, visit, create or copy. Oh no… sometimes we actually try doing some of that stuff. Amazing, huh?!

Seriously, though – it was one of those ingenious styling tips that I tried and it really worked. It got a great reaction on my Instagram feed (you can follow me here if you’re not already!) and it’ll be perfect for the winter-to-spring transition that I mentioned how much I’m looking forward to in my last post. In the meantime I can still wear it with my smart white coat (or smart black coat) and tartan scarves (boy, I’m gonna miss those come summer).

What do you think… are patterned tights under holey jeans something you can see yourself trying? What other simple styling tips do you have – or have you seen on Pinterest? Do let me know!

Great outfit. And the tights work very well. I would have worn 7/8 jeans with them instead of taking the hem up. Can I say this after all these years together? LOL

Haha you can say whatever you like, Greetje, you know you can!! How you (meaning anyone) interpret an outfit I wear into something they wear for themselves is entirely up to them. And anyway, we wouldn't retain our individuality if we copied others' outfits exactly, would we…? You HAVE to tweak things to make them work for you, that's the mark of a true style expert!!!

      Thank you sweetie xxx

Aww Tammy thank you, so glad you liked it!

Love that tartan scarf against the blue and the white coat really makes it all pop!

I did rather love the colour combo myself, sweetie…!! Thank you so much x

Its such a good idea to wear tights under distressed jeans. Mine have got that many holes in I was going to sew patches on them. Tartan scarves have been huge this Winter! I love this whole ensemble!

Lorna thank you – hopefully patterned tights will save you the trouble…?!!!! xx

Now, that is a great idea. Since I am not so good with cold, I could even layer my distressed BF jeans with a thicker wool stockings, perhaps… you looked really cool here. I really love the additional tartan scarf!

    • 23 February 2015 / 6:34 pm

In the proper cold I couldn't wear just the patterned tights under my jeans, Mrs C… it has to be warmer than freezing for me to do this look!! Thank you, I'm so glad you liked it (and I have to admit I do wear thick tights under all my jeans when it DOES get that cold as well – sometimes leggings)!! x

This really is an ingenious style tip and one I will definitely be trying. Thanks for styling it so dang cute, I adore the lace pattern tights underneath, it gives it such a funky little edge.

Thanks Trina! I'd love to take credit for the idea but as I saw it on Pinterest I can't, lol! Though it does amaze me when you see something so simple that it makes you think "why didn't I think of that…?!" C x

    • 22 February 2015 / 3:27 pm

Aww that's so sweet that she keeps buying them for you, Keit! I can imagine you'd totally OWN this look, and crank it up a fair bit!! Thanks hun x

  9. 22 February 2015 / 1:29 am

well, I don't "do" distressed jeans, but that's a cool idea!! Would love to see the outfit with some heels as well!
As for Pinterest, I have "recreated" some looks I must admit (a great idea for a post now that I think of it), but it's mainly the desserts I go after!!

    • 22 February 2015 / 3:25 pm

Haha I'm with you no the deserts, Anna!! And yes, I think they'd look sooo good with heels. One for next time, perhaps? 😉

      Thanks my lovely x

I've never tried it but I definitely had thought about it. I think it's a great way to keep yourself warm and yet still able to wear distressed jeans in fall and winter.

Oh I can imagine patterned tights under holey jeans would look incredible on you, Yen!! I'd love to see you wearing it. Thank you my lovely, hope you're well x

Love that, especially with the monk-strap shoes! Nice mix.

    • 21 February 2015 / 11:28 am

It does work really well with the monks, doesn't it Susan? I think it's good that I tried it with them first – made me fall in love with the look straight away!

  13. 20 February 2015 / 5:18 pm

    Hello,
I like to see on others, but i think is too risky for me, love that jacket 🙂
    Cris

    • 21 February 2015 / 11:27 am

Aww thanks hun – everything's about whether you feel comfortable in it. As long as you're not dismissing a particular look because of what others may think… wear something if YOU like it, no one else! 🙂

  14. 20 February 2015 / 3:51 pm

The idea of layering patterned tights under distressed jeans is BRILLIANT! Totally snagging that. And don't get me started on how much I love those loafers you're rocking!

  15. 20 February 2015 / 3:42 pm

Totally going to try tights on under my jeans – genius idea!
