Masculine Chic | Head-To-Toe Burgundy and Red

Autumn style: Head to toe red, burgundy and pink
After borrowing the husband’s Fred Perry sweater the other day (as seen in my last post) I felt the need to borrow it again… after all, what are husbands for if you can’t borrow their clothes? I’m a big fan of masculine chic and there’s no better way to do it than with your other half’s wardrobe…! This was actually quite an easy outfit to put together – when you’re going for head-to-toe burgundy/red you don’t have to do too much thinking about colour combinations and whether they’re going to work. The best shirt I had to go with this colour palette was a pink gingham one that I hadn’t worn in a while (you can see how I wore it last here) and I think it added a nice light touch just to lift my face.

I’ve been favouring a head-to-toe look in one colour a lot lately (I’ve done white recently as well) – do you ever go for all one colour (or shades of one colour) like this? Do you find the colour combinations easier or more difficult… I can imagine it can be the latter sometimes. Tell us in the comments!

I find the all one color combinations quite difficult and I always end up looking ridiculous πŸ˜€ You're a pro though and I love this outfit! ^^

Aww thanks Keit – though I wouldn't want you to go all monochrome on me, your colourful combos are why I love ya so much!! x

At first I didn't think it was special, but it is really nice. The boots and skinny give it the feminine touch (for me that is).

If you told me what colours you were going to wear (and don't forget your gorgeous red hair!) I'd have thought you were crazy, but on you this is an amazing look! Having featured on Imogen's blog recently (Inside Out Style) and been told that I would look better in monochromatic outfits or all neutrals but with high value contrast, I'm looking for some new ideas on colour. You can read about my initial efforts here: http://over60andoverhere.blogspot.com.es/2014/11/contrasting-views.html – but this post has definitely inspired me!

I forgot about having red hair, Sue!! But I guess it's kind of orange in comparison πŸ˜‰ And thank you my lovely, so glad to hear about your adventures in style, sounds really interesting! :))

Hehe I wonder myself sometimes, Jess…! Thanks hun :))

Love it! i've been wearing a lot of burgundy/ red / pink combinations lately ( see my latest post on fashionsabbaticaldress.blogspot.nl) and in general I'm known for my monochrome looks. I actually struggle with wearing different colours because I always think they 'cut' my body in two halves and I have this rule that I should never wear more then 2 ( sometimes 3) colours. Borrowing from my husband is a no go zone as he is too large ( typical Dutch) but I do have a pair of burgundy trousers that style-wise could be his.

Oh gosh I think I've been known to wear 6 or 7 colours, Irmin…!! But I know what you mean about the "cutting in half" thing. Thanks sweetie x

Haha, in the absence of a husband I have to wear my own clothes πŸ˜‰
Knowing Mr S's style, you can't go wrong here! Love the colour combination and especially your velvet blazer and booties, Catherine. Gorgeous!

It's awful to admit I did have my eye on it as soon as he bought it, Annette – I let him wear it at least once before I borrowed it, aren't I nice?!!!! Thank you x

Charming! Love the color combination. My husband's 6'3" and his clothes completely swallow me up – but I do love his sweaters. xox

    • 26 November 2014 / 7:13 pm

Wow that's tall – no wonder you don't venture near his wardrobe, Patti! But a man's sweater can't be too big, can it…?! Thank you hun x

    Beautiful burgundy colour πŸ™‚

I find wearing all one colour difficult, especially trying to get different shades to meld well.
I love the blazer/jacket you are wearing.

Thanks Rubi – I think you're right it can, especially if you're working with what you've already got in your wardrobe. My idea came from seeing these things together so it came to me that way! πŸ™‚
