Neon Green, a Chevron Midi & Accents of Black

Neon & chevrons

My chevron midi skirt: it’s an oldie but a goodie.

And with the weather just warm enough to bare some pale legs, it’s been nice to think about wearing something other than skinny jeans and boots. I’ve worn this skirt so many times on the blog (last time was here about a year ago), and have just realised it works so well with neon.

There are no new pieces here, just lots of things in my wardrobe being reworked. I think the promise of a new season (and new weather) gets me a little more excited about putting outfits together; I don’t get to the “don’t care” stage ever, but I do start to find myself wearing the same combinations over and over again and feeling a bit uninspired when it’s constantly cold and wet. So cheers to the milder weather and sunshine – me likey!

LOVE the pop of color!! Sometimes I get to that same phase of wearing the same thing over and over (because it's easy) BUT I have started laying my outfits for the week out and have re-worked things I haven't worn in YEARS and new combinations and I LOVE the piece of mind I get being so organized in the morning!!

Gorgeous! River Island has the best midi's!

You are right, this lovely skirt works very well with the neon. And the black bits. Again a winner.
I get what you mean that even we can get bored with skinnies (never thought I would say that).

    That skirt is lovely!

Thanks for linking me to the photography post – do you have some recommendations of what lens specs to look for? I have a 1.8f 50mm but I don't know whether I am not using it right (I've not really experimented loads) but I have to be REALLY far away to get a full human in the shot and my other lens that I usually use only goes to an 3.5 and everything I've been reading seems to suggest I need to get lower!

I really need to get myself outside and having a fiddle with the settings to see what I can do – when time allows! But if you have an suggestions in the meantime, that would be grand!

      Thanks Corinne 🙂

You've got the perfect lens, and yes you will have to stand (what seems like) a long way back. I think everyone these days is so used to using the wide angle lenses you get on compact cameras and phones that we forget that a "standard" (50mm) lens seems to zoom in quite a bit. It's the lens that most closely resembles the view from the human eye, so there's no distortion (unlike a wide angle lens). It's a fact that you will have to stand back further from the camera, there's no getting round it.

But the results you'll get with a fast, standard lens on the largest aperture (f1.8) are sooooooo worth it. Believe me, you won't want to go back to your other lens – I use nothing else for my outfit photos…!

As a natural redhead, I am now inspired to try neon green closer to my face.

Do, Nikki, do! You're a lucky girl, being a natural redhead :))

I would NEVER think to put that skirt with neon – but you're absolutely right. It works marvelously! Even in my mind's eye, other florescent shades look amazing.

    • 17 March 2014 / 10:22 pm

It was a bit of a lucky attempt, Cynthia – but I think it works because the skirt colours are so muted…?! Thank you so much x

Oh yes, that's a great skirt, Catherine. I still haven't tried the midi length but would love to, especially when it is too cold for a shorter skirt without tights.
