Ways To Style Tartan | With Clean Cut Black & White

Black & white with grey tartan check

I have to say I’ve found a new favourite combination: tartan with black and white.

Since I saw this outfit and Pinned it to my Autumn/Winter board I’ve been wanting to recreate it, except that I was lacking a black sweater. So until I find the right one (oh, to own more cashmere!), I’ll make do with the husband’s. I rather love the “Puritan” look of a white collar peeking out from a black crew neck – if you make sure the cuffs are showing as well it looks uber chic. The bag was a Christmas present (from Next) and is a dead ringer for the 3.1 Phillip Lim 31 Hour bag I saw on ShopBop last year. Who needs a £500 designer bag, eh…?!

Are any of you loving the tartan trend – if so, how are you styling it? (These tartan trousers are still on sale at Asos if you love them as much as I do!)

Very beautiful bag. I love how it picks up the black and white from the sweater and blouse. Really nice.
As for tartan…. I have a pretty blouse (blues and pinks) and no creativity at all. So apart from wearing it on skinnies, I don't get anywhere with it. Sad isn't it? Blogging about outfits when you have no styling abilities. Fortunately I have lots of friends, shop assistents and a creative husband to help me.

Catherine I love this look sooo much! The tartan trousers are perfect and they look so chic with the classic black sweater and shirt! Also loving the bag, its monochrome amazingness. 🙂

    Take care,

I definitely think you've made a "puritan" neckline and tartan trousers anything but buttoned up. There is a definite cool relaxed feel to it all!

These plaid pants are adorable on you, Catherine!! And with those amazing booties and the shirt and sweater combination, you have a kind of "Puritan/Punk" aesthetic going on…do I smell ANOTHER new trend?! 😉
P.S. Regarding your fitness post from before Christmas?! I thought you might like to know that I'm walking to work again!! (At least on the days when the weather isn't too bad!)

I am SO into the tartan/plaid thing. In fact, I'm planning to do an entire week's theme wearing plaid, perhaps next week weather permitting. Thanks for giving me yet more inspiration and impetus to do so. Stunning as always!

I love plaid. Nicely done. I wouldn't be able to sport those pants though. Front pleats with my flubbery tummy are a no go. You do not have this issue. They look great on you.
