So Saturday 29th September was my 40th birthday party… two whole months after the birthday itself, and finally here are the pictures to prove it! (Everyone was on holiday at different times around my birthday and August/September, so I picked a date when most people could make it.)
Not up to our usual quality of outfit post photography I’m afraid – but considering the state of both photographer and model by this point (this being right at the end of the evening – the room was almost cleared away), it isn’t actually that bad π
Mr and Mrs Summers (aka photographer and model)
With my lovely sister (and BFF) Vickie
I’d had a few drinks by this point…
Matthew can’t believe I’ve really included a picture of him π
This is my gang – my closest friends! All very sober, of course.
Would you believe it – the last remaining few who stayed and danced till the better end were all us oldies in our 40s (see above)…! It was a great night – a small function room in a country pub with a DJ playing my favourite cheesy disco tracks all evening. I couldn’t have asked for anything more!
And just to show you my dress DIY: this was a vintage C&A (remember them?) dress I bought off eBay earlier this year. Stupidly I didn’t take the dress up until THE AFTERNOON OF THE PARTY. Yes, you read that right, that afternoon… why do I do it to myself?! I’d had about five months to do it and just kept putting it off and putting it off… as you can imagine I was having a slight panic. It worked out fine thankfully, and as I’d originally been debating whether to keep it as a maxi I’m now so glad I did shorten it.
Hope you liked the dress and thanks for bearing with me while I showed my party pics – any excuse to embarrass my friends is a good one!

BEAUTIFUL DRESS!!ahhh please may i steal it? heehee! that is vintage gold right there, it looks great long and shorter! Your birthday looks fabulous and your smile is just the prettiest smile around my friend! xxx
Lovely dress. Suits you so well. I have to admit that I would have hesitated as well to make it shorter or not. It looks very nice full length, but you will get more wear out of it now.
Thank you for showing us those funny pictures. Had a good laugh. And eh.. CHEERS.

You really transitioned this dress into something beautiful! I found you at The Pleated Poppy link up. I am loving your style and I have found a lot of inspiration in your blog! I'm very happy to be your newest follower and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Oh, all the lovely smiling people, and beautiful you in that special dress! The shortening is perfect – I'm also entirely prone to last-minute, day-of-event serious alterations (just recently my yellow boots, and my burgundy bolero!) – why do we do this to ourselves? Fabulous when it turns out, though! So glad to hear of your celebration, thank you for sharing it with us.
Happy Birthday Catherine! You looked so happy in these pictures =D I'm sure you had a blast from the way you described the party! =D
You did a great job with DIY! I suck at it! You make that dress look so good after trimming those few inches away.

You are so beautiful, your full on smile is gorgeous. Taking up the dress was a great idea and really made it more beautiful. You and your husband are both great looking people. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
how fun! you look absolutely amazing, too. i love the dress…i think shortening it was a great idea (although it did look great as a maxi, as well).
You look gorgeous in the shortened dress! Good thing that you didn't keep the length, clearly seen on the "before" picture. I love the way you've styled your hair, and of course all your lovely jewellery!
The party must have been lots of fun, with friends looking like this when they're sober…! A delayed congratulations!
You look gorgeous! I think you took the dress up up to a perfect length.
I love these pics – espesh the one of you and your sis. You look gorgeous, and I LOVE your hair all loose and wavy – SOOOOO pretty.
Aw great pictures!!! I love your dress and love its bold poppy print, great idea to shorten it. I remember when Taunton had a C&A , a long time ago now. π
Take care,
Daniella xox
You look glorious in that ( after) dress, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The whole party looks like a lot of fun, and you are all such a handsome bunch.
