Annie Hall in a skirt

This is a landmark post for me, simply because I can’t remember any outfit post ever without at least one ASOS item… I think I have an addiction. And I hope you get the Annie Hall comparison – it’s the usual “post title that came to me when looking at the photos” scenario. And I did something that very, very rarely happens to me: I pulled a not-bought-recently item out of my wardrobe I’d not worn before. I know a lot of women have unworn clothes in their wardrobes, but I never do it. I’ll buy something and then be wearing it the very next day – I don’t just hang it in my wardrobe. To me that’s like buying chocolate and not eating it straight away (who has that sort of willpower)??!

So I bought this blouse last year and didn’t have a specific occasion for it, so it just went unworn, mostly because I found the billowyness hard to style. And then I Pinned this… and the idea of putting a waistcoat over the top seemed perfect – though it’s got a touch of the pirate about it too πŸ˜‰

Maybe I should have called the post Pirate Annie Hall. Too cryptic…?

P.S. Just realised the thumb ring is ASOS. My bad.

I'm the same way about clothes – when I buy something new, I wear it instantly and repeatedly. I get way too excited about new clothes to save them for a special occasion πŸ™‚

I can't get over how cool you look in these photos! Much better than Annie Hall, in my opinion.

Def reminds me of Annie Hall! But I like your style better πŸ˜‰ This hourglass shape outfit is so feminine and pretty on you…even with the menswear details. You look great!

You're all so very, very sweet everyone – thanks so much!!!!!

It was a bit of a departure for me but that's probably why I hadn't worn the blouse before – it was just so different to anything else I have. Have to think of another way to style it now :))

The fit is so perfect with every piece of this outfit! I think that's tough to do with a blouse and any layer. What a great total look!

Well, la-dee-dah, as Annie Hall would say. I JUST LOVE that movie. Diane Keaton was so incredibly stylish, and yet so kooky. Not too kooky, just right, if you know what I mean. How interesting to pair the waistcoat/hat with a skirt. It works!

Gorgeous, you have inspired me to go and get some nail polish tomorrow. It has been too long since I have dressed up my hands.
I have some blouses (one even has ruffles down the front!) like yours and worry they make me look like Michelin Man, so I often wear them under sleeveless dresses.

There's something about that first photo that makes you look like Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle. Before she ages of course!

Limette I wasn't sure of the film you meant so had to look it up… and I HAVE seen it (doh!) And you know what, you're right… there's a definite likeness with the hat, hair, blouse etc. That's a great comparison, I'm really flattered because she was lovely, thanks so much!! xoxo

I love this skirt! And I'm one of those people who buys things and waits. That's why I have a rule… I buy it and if I don't wear it in two weeks I'll never wear it so return it! You look adorable!

    • 12 July 2012 / 9:00 pm

That's a good rule, Chris, I think I work the same way (I do about 95% of my shopping online)! Thanks sweetie so much! x

You look lovely! Seriously, your styling is pert near perfect. And I'm so jealous of your ability to wear a hat. Jealous, I tell you!

  17. 12 July 2012 / 3:59 pm

haha, asos freak. (takes one to know one! :P)

  18. 12 July 2012 / 3:35 pm

I actually love such blouses. I watched all the Pirates of the Caribbean so many times that I'm obsessed with them and want to add one to my wardrobe.

    • 12 July 2012 / 8:55 pm

Haha I'm going to avoid wearing it with a pirate's hat and pointy beard, Audrey, otherwise I think I may look a bit TOO Captain Jack Sparrow ;)) Thanks for your comment sweetie! x

You put things together in such a way that they look so right! Makes me feel like trying some new ideas ……thank – you!! xx

  20. 12 July 2012 / 1:49 pm

I love your skirt Catherine! It's so beautiful. Paired together with your vest and WOW! Totally love this look πŸ™‚

  21. 12 July 2012 / 1:25 pm

This is a different look for you, but you pull it off well!

I wish we had ASOS here. Sounds like a great shop.

I'm kind of a discipline freak when it comes to fancy chocolate. If I get a box, I'll only eat one piece a day, until it's gone. It's just that I want it to last longer! No such willpower with new clothes, though.

    • 12 July 2012 / 8:53 pm

ASOS is available everywhere Kasmira – I know there's an ASOS US – they do free delivery worldwide! Then again, you may become as addicted as me ;))

      Thanks hun x

Hi sweetie, love this look! I love that skirt of yours and I love how you've styled it with the white blouse and waistcoat. The hat gives the outfit an unexpected twist and the shoes are the perfect pick. πŸ™‚

    Take care, Daniella xox

You way outdid Annie Hall. I can see the inspiration, but wow, you've added elegance.
