50 Fabulous AW17 Sweaters to Shop

50 Fabulous AW17 Sweaters to Shop | autumn fall winter knitwear

So as tomorrow heralds the official end of the summer (in my world summer ended an eon ago), I can safely post about knitwear without someone correcting me about when summer ends and autumn begins.

(Yes, someone got all school teachery on me on Instagram and said that it was still summer until 21 September *roll eyes*).

Since finding the King of Striped Sweaters a few weeks ago, I’ve been looking forward to rediscovering all the cold weather options I have yet to unpack from my seasonal wardrobe switch. I hate admitting I love knitwear (especially seeing as I’m such a summer fanatic), but there’s something about snuggling up in lots of warm layers that’s so appealing.

It was a request for AW17 knitwear options from a reader – plus this striped stunner – that kicked off my obsession with looking for new and fabulous jumpers:

Bright autumnal outfit: Multi-coloured stripe sweater with fluted sleeves grey peg trousers pink suede block heel fringed shoes pink Cambridge Satchel Co Cloud satchel | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 style
This sweater is the Asos multicoloured stripe sweater that I wore in last week’s #iwillwearwhatilike post – it was crazy popular with everyone judging by the comments.

Remember it also comes in every fit imaginable: Maternity, Curve (UK sizes 18-28), Petite and Tall as well as my Regular fit (UK sizes 4-18) and is available internationally. May all your stripey autumnal knitwear dreams come true with this knit, whoever and wherever you are…!

I hope you’ll find *something* you love in my picks – I’ve divided the sweaters into different types: roll/cowl neck, cable knit, stripe, patterned, oversized and what I’ve called “on-trend” (a better way of saying trendy). There practically isn’t a single straight sleeve in sight in that section… fluted and leg-of-mutton sleeves RULE right now!

Roll/cowl neck sweaters

Free People Colourblocked Jumper £89.99

I love a sweater with a roll neck (especially thick ones) – they add that extra layer of cosiness that usually only a scarf can provide. I really love the one above with its jewel-coloured colour blocking… I’m trying very hard to resist actually buying it for myself. Oh who am I kidding – it’s BOUND to end up in my shopping basket, isn’t it?!

Cable knit sweaters

Marks & Spencer Chenille Cable Funnel Neck Jumper £35.00 (US link)
Also available in navy, cream and dark grape (same links)

What’s not to love about a good cable knit sweater in cold weather? It’s a perennial style that never seems to date, and the blush one (above) I’ve picked out has a funnel neck too which helps if you suffer from a cold neck like myself. Check out the red cable knit sweater (below) with the white go faster stripes – it’s like two classics met and had a knitwear baby.

Stripe sweaters

Nümph Textured Stripe Jumper £64.99

Although I’ve featured patterned sweaters I thought stripes should have their own section, there are so many good ones about. I think it’s fair to say I love my stripes in the winter as much as the summer (see my classic preppy stripes with lots of navy and white stripe options from last week) – I just swop the cottons for knitted options. There are some stunning multi coloured options in the shops at the moment, though if you prefer neutrals you might want to go for the classic navy and white stripes as mentioned.

Patterned sweaters

Sugarhill Boutique Stripe Star Jumper £48.00 (international shipping)

If you’re a regular reader you’ll know I’m all over pattern – black isn’t normally a colour I go for but if a black sweater is covered in rainbow stars then I’m bound to fall in love with it! I also love the lemon yellow & Other Stories sweater and the orange Mango one with the bumblebee pattern on the front (two more that need to make their way into my basket methinks).

Oversized sweaters

French Connection Long Sleeved High Neck Jumper £99.00 (US link)

Perfect for a food baby day or when you want something to lounge about in, oversized sweaters are having a moment at the moment. The camel coloured one with the ‘half belt’ (above) is a beauty – and it has a perfect high neck which makes it even more lush. If they’re long enough, oversized sweaters can double up as sweater dresses which are great with sweat pants or leggings on super casual days.

On-trend sweaters

PrettyLittleThing Tiered Sleeve Jumper £35.00 (international shipping)

Finally, all the sweaters that were super on-trend but didn’t quite fit into any of the categories above… so “on-trend sweaters” it was. I’m dying over the tiered bell sleeves of the blue Asos beauty above (Asos is great for brightly coloured knitwear), and the cream M&S sweater with metallic trim will satisfy the metallics craving you probably have this season.

Here in Denmark it's officially been autumn since the 1st, you may have a drop of Viking in you Catherine!
As for the sweaters, having ample boobage, I have to take them into consideration, so no cowl or roll necks, I'm also petite and feel that chunky or oversize isn't right either. However cashmere crew necks or v necks are my game, and I love them. I have last season's striped sweater from Boden, it's certainly cost effective!

If I'm a summer lover does that mean I still have Viking blood in me…? Or is is because on 1st September I say "that's it, summer is OVER!" that I *might* be a Viking?!! heehee 😉

You're following the Danish seasonal calender, that's why you may have Viking blood in you! ;-).
Summer in Denmark officially starts on the 1st June. In the UK the astronomical summer starts on the 21st June, the meteorogical one is the same as in the UK. So you could get the best of both worlds by following the meteorological start of summer, but the astronomical end of the season! That way you get over 20% more summer for your money – with your surname that can't be bad!

I meant to say that the meteorological one is the same as in Denmark!

Catherine, I love all these beautiful choices. I had to laugh, because I love fall and cooler weather, so of course I love sweaters. Just to share with you my love of all things heavy and cuddly warm, whenever I bring a new one home, my hubby says, "Just go throw it on your sweater pile!" Ha, ha. It is so true. As I was moving my warm weather clothes to their winter bins, I discovered I have four red pullover sweaters! Ha, ha. But of course I need every single one because one is a v-neck, one is a cable knit, one has 3/4 length sleeves….well you get the idea. I'm hopeless when it comes to sweaters. I could easily pick out at least one I like from all of your categories. Thanks for sharing. – Amy
