How to Casually Style a Stripe Longline Blazer, Over 40 Style

It’s that bright orange wall again, providing a perfect backdrop for a cold weather, casually-styled outfit.

On what was one of the first truly freezing cold days last week we ventured out to the cinema (our don’t-tell-anyone secret that is the early morning showing), so I only needed something comfy to snuggle up in and to get me from the car to the cinema. I skipped a scarf and gloves and doubled up on leg layers (thick socks and tights underneath my trousers, like I did on Monday) as it was only a two-minute walk.

However, it was absolutely freezing – the wind was biting cold. Where has this sudden drop in temperature come from?

Last year in November I remember getting overheated in London in a trench coat whilst walking across one of the bridges (which are always notoriously cold and windy), and just two months ago we were having the hottest September day in decades. Dear Britain: I will never understand your crazy weather.

So… Are you wondering what film we saw?

We went to see Doctor Strange, and yes, I can highly recommend it. Benedict Cumberbatch was very, very good (I have it from the highest Marvel authority – my husband – that he was a great choice too). And whatever you do, make sure you stay right till the very end of the credits… People always leave early and miss all the extras that Marvel always, always give you. =sigh=

As it was early on Sunday morning I literally had to grab something to wear and run. I’ve got my autumn/winter clothes out of storage but I still haven’t sorted them out and put away my summer clothes yet, so choices were made from the first things I laid my eyes on. The chunky roll neck sweater from last year doubles up as a scarf anyway, and the wide leg jeans from the summer are going strong with said tights underneath.

The saving grace that kept me warm was the longline blazer – I’ve become a bit of a coatigan / longline blazer / duster coat fiend of late, and although this one is from a couple of winters ago I’ve just recently acquired another beauty that I’ll be debuting on the blog next week.

Stay safe and stay warm, lovelies – after the turbulent day that was yesterday (oh, my Twitter feed was exhausted!) I thought I’d just bring you a simple outfit post with a bright orange wall to brighten your day… I guess that’s all we can do for now, apart from simply being good to each other.

I love this thrown together look, Catherine. Sometimes it's the best way to discover a new outfit, when you have to grab a few things in a rush like this. The jumper looks so cosy and will surely be a favourite for the chilly months ahead.
    Have a lovely week x

You are just so dang pretty! I love all things Marvel but have yet to see Dr. Strange. My hubby is not a big Marvel fan, so I may have to slip away some afternoon by myself. Your outfit just looks so comfy and warm! Perfect for those cold days when you have to go somewhere and don't want to wear the heavy coat. You look great! – Amy

Lovely cozy outfit, Catherine! I love a longline coatigan myself, and now I may perhaps need a striped one… I adore this cheery, juicy, bright orange wall. Just the thing for this cold grey day and the post-election blahs. You look gorgeous, my friend. Stay warm! xx
