Grey Dungarees With a Bright Pop of Colour #iwillwearwhatilike

Casual spring summer look: Red Breton stripe t-shirt, grey dungarees, orange tote | Not Dressed As Lamb

Summer really is the time to break out the colour even if you’re more of a neutrals kind of person – hence this week’s #iwillwearwhatilike theme, a pop of colour!

After my Grace Kelly-style wedding guest outfit last week I’ve done my usual trick of switching from super-glam to super casual in one fell swoop… Grey dungarees this week. The pop of colour comes courtesy of both a red Breton stripe top (I have so many Breton tops in all different colours and variations I’ve lost count) and my 2016 bag favourite: The Hobbs Adlington orange tote. This bag has gone with so many outfits this season and last, I have a feeling it’s going to be my go-to for a while yet.

Colour – even in small amounts like this – is such a great way to lift an outfit. I do favour neutrals now and then, but the temptation to add something bright will never leave me. A brightly coloured accessory – a bag, scarf or pair of shoes – is the easiest way to ease yourself into wearing more colour.

So leave that black tote on the shelf and go for the red or yellow instead… You’ll not regret it!

Finally: Must mention these gorrrrrrgeous embellished slip-on trainers by Miss KG (Kurt Geiger). I think the influence of my good friend The Sequinist is rubbing off on me – I just have to have everything sparkly right now. They’re super-comfy and such a pretty choice for a casual summer shoe.

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up (scroll down for details) you may be featured next week if you’ve linked up something with a pop of colour ๐Ÿ™‚

#iwillwearwhatilike | Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

An InLinkz Link-up

PLEASE NOTE
This is for linking up what you’ve been wearing (or would like to wear) only. I like to keep it all looking tidy because I’m a bit of a neat-freak, so non-outfit links will be removed – it’s only fair to others linking up!

I love a pop of colour and use that in many outfits. I was going to upload the fuchsia poncho by Hope, but saw two fellow bloggers doing that. No problem finding something else.

PS And I also like red/white breton stripes.

Haha I noticed that there were several Hope ponchos too, Greetje!! Thank you for linking and your lovely comment x

Ooh yes, I love a pop or dollop of colour…and Breton stripes. In fact every time I'm tempted to buy yet another striped top I have to have a word with myself because I've already got loads. Those slip-ons are so pretty ๐Ÿ™‚

What is it with Breton stripes that we just can't seem to help ourselves, Emma?! It always seems to be the one thing bloggers/women seem to have multiple versions of…!!

      And thank you xx

I love these dungarees on you, Catherine! I'm still looking for my perfect pair lol! I actually found some yesterday but they only had one size left and they were a bit small … such a bummer! And they were in the sale for next to nothing. Grrrrr!

Look who's having fun in the sun…while we've been freezing our a**es off in Vancouver!! ;D Actually, things have warmed up a little around here again over the past couple of days, dearest Catherine…so now I'm totally inspired to find myself a "pop of colour" bag (like your deliciously juicy orange tote!) to become my go-to summer accessory!! Wish me luck!! P.S. I might need a pair of overalls (aka dungarees!) too!! XOXO

Haha it may look warm, Monika, but it definitely wasn't โ€“ we had a family barbecue and sat outside shivering and wearing fleeces! If you look closely you can see goosebumps on my arms in some of the photosโ€ฆ!

How timely, Catherine, my outfit of today's post features Black and White with a pop of colour, namely Electric Blue ๐Ÿ™‚ I honestly do feel that if it weren't for the blogging world, I'd have stuck to a red lip as my shot of colour so there's a lot to be said about being inspired by my rainbow-embracing peers such as yourself xoxo

p/s I'm actually that close to purchasing a bright orange bag myself!!

Hehe I could never imagine you doing all neutrals, Melanie…!! thanks hun x

  22. 20 June 2016 / 2:49 pm

Yes! I seemed to have fallen into the color week! Ha, not that that is a problem. I love color and it does brighten the mood for me. My sister even said she needed to start to wear more color. This is a fun look! I like that the dungarees are grey and the pop of orange red with it is so cool! I am a big fan of slip ons, and between the more pointed toe and the shimmer, I dig those shoes!

  23. 20 June 2016 / 2:49 pm

Superb sparkles! Where is that word comming from? Dungarees? Haha, sounds like dungeon!

    • 20 June 2016 / 3:19 pm

I think we (the British) can claim to have named them first, Nancy – the word is of Hindi origin (named after the Indian village of Dongri where the cloth used to make them came from) and has been around since the 17th century it seems… The US gave them their own name of overalls much later!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love English words of Hindi and Urdu origin, see my reply to Shelbee above for other great ones! x

  24. 20 June 2016 / 2:46 pm

So I'm laughing because of course I'm a week late with the stripes! But at least I added a pop of color to my striped shirt—that should count for the theme for the week, right?
I still haven't tried the dungaree trend as an adult, but I just came upon a picture of me in a pair from college days—so I guess I did wear them once!
I love the sparkly shoes—I have a pair that seems to upgrade any outfit!!

Oh why oh why is it that I am always one step off topic??? ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyways, I love the stripes with that pop of orange and looks like you got a chance to take some pics when it wasn't raining? Weather has been the same over here. And Shelbees story had me in stiches….have a great week and thank you for hosting Catherine! xo, Sabina

    • 20 June 2016 / 3:13 pm

Oh not you too with the dreadful weather, Sabina!! Thanks for linking up and your kind words, at least the theme is optional so you can always link up, hehe ๐Ÿ˜‰

  26. 20 June 2016 / 2:31 pm

Adorable, Catherine! I love that you call these dungarees…because I have a funny story about that word! Many years ago, one of my first jobs out of college (so 20 years ago to be exact), I took a job as an assistant manager for Talbots. There was a customer who left her fitting room to retrieve a different size of something and one of the salesgirls cleared out her fitting room not knowing that she was still trying clothes on. The customer became very upset because she had found a pair of jeans that she wanted to purchase and they were gone when she returned to her fitting room. In a panic, she approached me and stated that someone had taken her dungarees. I had never heard this word before and had no idea what she was talking about. And she was getting more and more upset when I kept asking, "They took your what?" And she would repeat "My dungarees!" even louder. Until finally, I had to ask another salesgirl what the heck dungarees were! And oh, how everyone laughed at me! But you look fabulous in your gray dungarees (now that I know what they are!)

Thanks for hosting the link up and I hope you can pop by and check out my new weekly link up as well on Fridays! Have a fantastic day!

    Shelbee

    • 20 June 2016 / 3:12 pm

Shelbee that's so funny that you didn't know that word to cause that confusion… The poor girl must have been so frustrated, I guess if you've never heard another word for them (I only know they call them overalls in the US because of blogs) then you just don't know what else to say ;))

Did you know its origin is Hindi? The Brits have a lot of great words of Hindi and Urdu origin, like bungalow, bandanna, shampoo, pyjamas… That's all I can think of at the moment, but there are loads more…!

And thank you for your kind words as always my lovely :))

  27. 20 June 2016 / 2:14 pm
