Some days I feel like switching it up entirely and going for something not so much “out of my comfort zone”, but doing it more “not me”. This look was inspired by two things:
Firstly, the practice up-do for the UK Blog Awards ceremony at the end of the month (check out the sneak peek of my fairy princess look for that), and secondly, the fluffy pink cardigan I was about to put in the selling/charity pile after a wardrobe clear out I’ve started following my vow to sort out my house.
It went on the pile because I hadn’t worn it in over a year, and as I did thought I’d just try it on first – and kind of liked it with the hair. All that pink fluff made me feel like a glamorous housewife from some old 70s movie set in Miami, so the finishing touch was the evil eye brooch (for some extra kitsch) and crazy-assed paisley joggers (you know, for a touch of slouching-about-at-home attitude).
ALL THAT PINK FLUFF MADE ME FEEL LIKE A GLAMOROUS HOUSEWIFE FROM SOME OLD 70S MOVIE SET IN MIAMI, SO THE FINISHING TOUCH WAS THE EVIL EYE BROOCH AND CRAZY-ASSED PAISLEY JOGGERS.
The black lace-up block heels (I think they’re called ghillie shoes?) add a bit of drama… As if this look needed more. I like the fact that mine have that medium block heel: A bit of extra height is always a bonus. Mine are sold out but I adore these ghillie bootie heeled sandals from ASOS (for a bit of height) and these black suede ghillie lace up flats (more like mine but without the heel).
SHOP THE LOOK:
It’s always good to go for something entirely different now and then – I like that feeling you get of taking on a different persona, even if it is just for one day.
DO YOU EVER TRY SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ON A WHIM? AND HAVE YOU EVER GONE TO DITCH A PIECE OF CLOTHING, ONLY TO FIND YOU QUITE LIKE IT AGAIN (LIKE I DID)…?! TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS OR TWEET ME @NOTLAMB!
Warehouse cardigan (love this fluffy pink zip-up cardigan or there’s this pink merino wool cardigan) | George at Asda joggers (try these Aztec print trousers) | ASOS shoes (I’m dying over these black lace-up block heeled shoes) | Accessorize bag (similar fringed cross body bag) | Lulus sunglasses c/o (these black cat eye sunglasses are a dupe) | Topshop brooch (not an evil eye but this Marchesa jewelled cluster brooch is stunning, or for something cheaper try the ASOS jewel burst brooch) | Berricle earrings c/o (these sterling platinum cubic zirconia earrings are similar)

Thank you Jess!! I must say this hairstyle (it's basically a French pleat) is easier with less hair – when mine was long it always gave me a huge lump at the back of my head ;))
Oh yes done that, been there. I sometimes wear something for the last time before I am about to give it away and get swamped with compliments. So it goes straight back in the closet for keeps.
And I find the nicest combinations when somebody rings the doorbell and I have to trow something on to be decent haha.
Greetje
Forgot to say I also like your fluffy pink jacket.
Greetje I can totally relate to both of those things!! It's kind of annoying in a way, isn't it haha ;))
Thank you my lovely x
This is a great rediscovery, and so relevant! I often rediscover jewelry pieces, but not clothes ~ for some reason, I cannot stand overcrowded closet and give away lots of my things. I Love the refreshing pink and the texture of the cardigan! And it looks so wonderful on you. xo Zuma

Well an overflowing wardrobe was my reason for getting rid of it, Zuma – I was trying to be really ruthless!! Maybe this one will be the only exception I make…! Thank you so much x
I looooooove this bubblegum pink cardi! Do not throw it out; give it to me if you change your mind about it 🙂
It looks adorable on you, and I love how you went all More is More with the whole outfit here. It suits you. I think the updo adds a real note of old school glamour and elegance that pulls it all together; the outfit would have a different feel with your hair down. You make a pink fluffy cardi look sexy, Catherine! All you need is a pink drink in your hand to complete the Miami film set vibe.
(Your hair looks amazing like this!)
Hehe a few people have suggested drinks I should be holding with this look, Lisa – a sherry was another one!! 😉 Thank you sweetie, I really thought I'd done with the cardi but it's drawn me back in again with its fluffiness…!!
What an interesting blog, loved your hairstyle it looks super. Pink is probably my favourite colour, simply haven't got enough of this colour in my wardrobe. Jacqui
I think I maybe have too much pink, Jacqui (but then is there such a thing?)! Thank you hun! x
The hair looks great – perfect for an awards ceremony! And I really like the pink cardi! It's a piece I wish I owned but don't… It's bold and looks so nice and cozy…
I have a few bold pieces of clothing that take me out of my comfort zone, but I honestly don't experiment nearly as much as I should…
Thank you Andrea – it's so fluffy and warm, I'd fallen out of love with it for some reason but now I seem to love it again 😉
Catherine, I adore everything about this look!! You may think this is not my style but I love it! I love your hairstyle in the first place, your sunglasses, the colour, the whole scenery – really fabulous!
And it is so funny to read your German word "kitsch" 😉
xx
Annette | Lady of Style
Annette I've never thought about "kitsch" being a German word, but it's so obvious now you say it!! Thank you my lovely, I think this *is* going to be the hairdo for the big awards ceremony…!
I absolutely love the pink fluffy cardigan and the up-do is absolutely stunning on you! Well done Catherine!
Aww Heather thank you!!
This is such a happy, cosy outfit Catherine and I love it. Your hair looks beautiful too. Soooooo excited to see the whole ensemble on awards night!! xxxx
Thank you lovely Liz!! As my hair was down last year I figured it should be up this year. Getting quite excited now!!!!!
I love that cuddly pink cardigan!! The colour is divine and it just looks like the perfect top to cuddle into. And that brooch? Well, it's GORGEOUS! I'm always going through my clothes and getting rid of stuff – some I wish I hadn't now, but at least it gives me more space for shopping he he he!!
Have a fab weekend!

Hehe it really is soooooooo soft and fluffy, Suzy!! I don't wear the brooch often, but when I do it's always a conversation piece. Thank you sweetie x
So glad you saved the fluffy pink cardi! And I adore the ghillies – I need them for Florida summer. xox
Patti

I did save it Patti but it was only meant to be temporary – now everyone is saying to keep it!! I'm not being ruthless enough, hehe…!! Thanks sweetie x
Great look as ever Catherine, loving the shoes I really do need to get a pair!
Aww thanks sweetie – yes do get some! They always add a lot of interest to a plain outfit (not just crazy ones like this one, hehe) x
Hi I love your blog. I love the shoes however the overall look reminds me of Linda from eastenders which I'm not saying is necessarily a bad thing lol. You look fabulous.
Thank you Wendy! I'm afraid I have no idea who Linda is… I haven't watched Eastenders for nearly 20 years – maybe it's a good thing I don't know her?!! Though I already described it as a "crazy housewife look" so perhaps it's pretty accurate! 😉
Linda is lovely but wears a great deal of pink lol
I love this look! I need those shoes, they look so classy and comfy!
Check out my blog! http://lourdeslifebuzz.blogspot.com/
Thank you Lourdes – they are comfy (despite the lacing!) and the heel adds height which I love x
It's like a girly teddy bear…so i'm assuming you didn't give it away!! For some reason I love having a little variety in my closet nowadays!!
Your hair looks very chic pulled up like this! jodie
http://www.jtouchofstyle.com
I haven't yet, Jodie… Maybe I'll make that the last wear?!! And thank you – I may well go with this hairdo for the awards thing at the end of the month…!
They are Ghillie shoes Catherine, and they are fab!!!
I love the look of them with the fluffy cardigan.
I completely agree about ditching something then rediscovering it. I often bag up clothes (and shoes) I am "over" and pop them in the loft (with the season written on the bag). Then, when I get them down again, it is like getting a whole pile of new clothes!
I do get tired of the same old things but like to rediscover old friends.
This is a fun look with plenty of texture and interest….it looks warm and comfy too, which is a big bonus in this odd spring weather.

OMG of *course* they are, Samantha… Now I "hear" the word ghillie as said by you (I'm just imagining you with a generic Scottish accent, of course I've not heard you speak and I don't know whereabouts exactly you're from!) it totally sounds Scottish, and of course they're worn with kilts by Highland dancers!! Doh, I'm such a donut!!!!!!!
Aaaaaaaanyway thank you sweetie – my trouble is I really do need to get rid of clothes, not start falling in love with them again!! x
Soft and beautiful, jut like you.I WANT ONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Aww bless you, Sacramento – thank you!! I can just imagine you in a fluffy pink cardi like this…!!
