Styling Up a Statement Floral Trench For the Seaside #iwillwearwhatilike

Spring style: Blue floral honeysuckle trench coat, red bandanna, khaki track pants, white Stan Smith Adidas, white backpack, oversized round sunglasses | Not Dressed As Lamb

We spent a day at the beach yesterday – Charmouth in Dorset – and it was chilly but beautifully sunny. It was actually ideal weather for wearing a trench coat,

and I wore the Hobbs SS15 trench coat with the gorgeous blue honeysuckle pattern that appeared on the blog a few times last summer – I loved it with a typically bright choice of yellow and mauve…!

As you can see Charmouth is a pebble beach – it’s part of the Jurassic Coast and is famous for its fossil hunting. So a walk along the beach like this required some comfy footwear (Adidas Stan Smiths) and a backpack for carrying essentials.

A red bandana tied at the neck was enough to stop unwanted chills and adds a touch of colour, but the combination of strong sunshine and a lot of walking meant I didn’t really need a thick scarf (even down at the beach where it’s pretty windy).

The light down at the beach for taking photos is always absolutely beautiful. I wish I could carry that light around with me when ever we do a photo shoot! Although we were battling with the sun going in and out (and the ever-present wind) the gorgeous light made it all worth it.

As always the link up theme is optional, but to get yourself featured next weak link up any trench coat outfits, old or new, and don’t get to add a link to this post somewhere in your post. Scroll down for all the details – and have yourself a fabulous week!

ARE YOU A BEACH, TOWN OR COUNTRY PERSON? I’M A BIT OF ALL THREE, BUT THE BEACH (OUT OF HIGH SEASON LIKE THIS) IS MY FAVOURITE! TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS!

#iwillwearwhatilike | Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

An InLinkz Link-up

PLEASE NOTE
This is for linking up what you’ve been wearing (or would like to wear) only. I like to keep it all looking tidy because I’m a bit of a neat-freak, so non-outfit links will be removed – it’s only fair to others linking up!

Hehe it's only down the road, Anna – though I've always loved the idea of loving right on the sea. I can only imagine how much a house by the beach would cost..?!!

      Thank you my lovely x

I absolutely adore this trench! You look so sassy in this outfit, Catherine!

That beach backdrop is absolutely perfect for the trench. I see what you mean about the light. That's something we never seem to have enough of up here in Scotland.

  5. 19 April 2016 / 11:59 am

Fabulous coat! I love the beach!

  6. 19 April 2016 / 11:58 am

Wow Catherine this outfit is FANTASTIC! I love the honeysuckle print on that dress. And those beach rocks are so stunningly printed — I wish a designer would make a dress with a similar design, ha ha!

Super excited for this week's theme too! I've been living in my trench coats constantly these past few weeks. I just found a great deal on a used Burberry one that should be coming in the mail this week too… as if I needed MORE trench coats in my wardrobe.

    Xoxo,

Oh wow, Ashley – a Burberry?!! Lucky you!! Thank you sweetie ❀️‍❀️‍

It's a very well known area by geologists, Heidi – I'm not surprised your dad knows it if he's into fossil hunting!! Thank you xx

Well, that trench is perfect for the seaside and lovely to see it out again for Spring!
I envy you having a day at the sea. If I could escape to one place is would be by the sea. I have salt water in my veins and always feel thoroughly rejuvenated after a blow of sea air.
And I love those rocks in your hands. I'd want to take every one of them home with me!

Best outfit for beach walking. And I am in love with that blue trench coat. And of course those rocks!! Thanks for including me among your picks too! Like you, too bad we can't put that light in a bottle. I'm a town girl until siren and loud motorocycle season hits.

    • 19 April 2016 / 10:47 am

Haha we get tourist season where we live, Melanie, but I've not heard of a "siren and loud motorcycle season" before…!!! πŸ˜‰ Thanks my lovely x

OMG you picked me, thank you!!!!! lol! I'm having so much fun with your weekly link up, today's post was fun with the trench coat too. I've got one beautiful jumpsuit – but it's a real summer outfit! Maybe I'll have to go shopping πŸ˜‰
I LOVE your blue trench, it's absolutely divine and it goes so well with the rest of your outfit. Love the trousers too. And you're right about the light on the beach – stunning. I mustn't forget the pebbles – talk about beautiful!

  19. 18 April 2016 / 3:50 pm

Your trench coat has some China feeling to it which is very interesting and so chic. It resembles that dress Victoria Beckham once wore, you know the white with blue one that had a pattern like a Chinese vase.

  20. 18 April 2016 / 3:36 pm

Love those pictures and the coat is lovely Catherine! You look absolutely wonderful with those joggers and white sneakers. I just got back from my vacation an the northsea in the Netherlands and loved every minute of it. Thanks for hosting! Sabina

  21. 18 April 2016 / 3:17 pm

Those are the coolest rocks I have ever seen!

  22. 18 April 2016 / 3:16 pm

I love the pics in this post Catherine, you look absolutely stunning! It looks like you had the perfect day to spend at the seaside. The light quality is exquisite and so is that trench πŸ™‚

You look so relaxed and stylish Catherine. the beach is the most beautiful back drop and I bet it was both relaxing and invigorating being there. I wouldn't have thought of teaming a trench with joggers and trainers and it looks fab. So I *might* pay homage sometime soon, love Liz http://www.whatlizzyloves.com

    • 18 April 2016 / 5:01 pm

You pay homage away, Liz – love to see you in something unexpected!! To be honest with these things I go for practicality first, but I knew I wanted to wear the trench coat, so it was a case of whatever is comfortable is going to be what I wear!

Thank you my lovely, we had such a nice relaxed day in the sun πŸ™‚

  24. 18 April 2016 / 2:54 pm

Great trench! And I love that you are wearing a bandana (I'm still obsessed with them…).

And the beach photos are absolutely beautiful! Love the pebbles in the last photo!

    • 18 April 2016 / 4:59 pm

I think you must have influenced my decision to wear one, Andrea!! Thank you sweetie x

  25. 18 April 2016 / 2:36 pm

I'm a "beach" person through and through, dearest Catherine – even though I can't swim and don't like to tan! – but now that we have such a wonderful outdoor space at our new home, I may actually become a "balcony" person!! ;D Still, these gorgeous photos are making me anxious for the weather in Vancouver to warm up just a little bit more so that Robin and I can enjoy a day on the seashore, too!! P.S. The botanical print on this trench coat of yours is springtime perfection!! XOXO

    • 18 April 2016 / 4:51 pm

I have to admit I prefer the beach out of season like this, Monica – as you can imagine they're heaving in the summer when all the tourists come down, it's no fun!! Thank you my lovely xx

  26. 18 April 2016 / 2:33 pm

I have always been a mountain lover, but being close to the see now I get the feeling of having it all, hahhahaha
I love your coat, and keep my fingers crossed so you visit me in my neck of the wood one day soon, before America

    • 18 April 2016 / 4:50 pm

Oh how lovely for you to live near the sea, Sacramento – sun, sand and sea: You have it all (in my eyes)!! Thank you sweetie, and yes if possible we'd love to come down your way one day…!

  27. 18 April 2016 / 2:30 pm

I love any statement coat whether it be a trench or winter version! This blue is quite stunning—it's artistically perfect with the sea & sky!
I must admit, I have no trench coat in my possession because when I think trench coat—I think tan & boring. But now you have me reconsidering….

I still love my beige trench coats, Jodie, but I know what you mean! Hobbs always do a great printed trench every year, I wanted to gt my hands on this trench in an orange colourway last year but they'd sold out. But I still adore this blue one…! Thank you sweetie x

  28. 18 April 2016 / 2:23 pm

These photos are gorgeous, Catherine, I can imagine the light! For too long I haven't been to a beach… living in the mountains is nice but I love going back to the sea.
Your coat is unique and perfect for spring!

We always say how ridiculous that we don't go more often, Annette – there are loads near us, and it only takes between 20 and 45 mins to get to each of them. All that seaside light just sitting there waiting for us…!! Thank you my lovely x

  29. 18 April 2016 / 2:21 pm

Beautiful photos! And I just love your theme this week, being a trench coat addict…

Such lovely photos, your right it's such a great back drop. Hope yoou have those rocks on display somewhere x

    • 18 April 2016 / 4:06 pm

Thank you Laurie – you have to be careful down in the South West where pebbles are concerned: There is a beach that has a Β£1,000 fine per pebble that you take (I just can't remember which one), they're protected because they're geologically so special…!!

  31. 18 April 2016 / 2:10 pm

I adore your pale blue honeysuckle patterned trench! Wow. You're right, the light is beautiful there. It is so soothing to look at these photographs. You look so happy and relaxed on the beach Catherine, and how gorgeous are those rocks in the last photo? I'd like a trench with that pattern on it too, please! Just lovely. Thank you so much for featuring my slogan sweatshirt from last week! xx

    • 18 April 2016 / 4:03 pm

OMG that's a brilliant idea, Lisa, to make a print from the pattern on the rocks – no wonder I loved them so much!! Thank you my lovely, and it was of course a pleasure you feature you and your sparkles this week!! x
