Styling My Window Pane Check Coat Another Way | With Yellow, Black and Taupe

Windowpane check duster coat with yellow and black, camel fedora
So after debuting the window pane check duster coat* with florals the other day, I was absolutely desperate to wear it again…!

Luckily we had some milder weather at the weekend so I didn’t have to wait too long (impatient, much?) A walk along the river on the way to the locals shops was the perfect opportunity to keep it casual but not too sloppy: a yellow sweatshirt, jeans and boots was all it really needed.

I still had my hair in plaits thanks to the Heidi hairdo I was sporting the day before (it soooo should be called the “Heidi Do”) and although I’m very anti age-appropriate anything, there is something very schoolgirly about two plaits down each side of your head for anyone who isn’t actually at primary school any more. For me, a grown up hat like a taupe fedora takes it out of schoolgirl territory and at the same time gets me out of the chore of washing my hair just to go to the supermarket…!

I use dry shampoo a lot as well as hats for bad hair days – on bad hair days are you a hat fan or a dry shampoo fan… or do you wash your hair religiously every day?! I’d love to know!

I'm in love with the braids. The hat just sets them off perfectly. I'm also a big fan of dressed up casual so I am loving this look. I was happy to quit the daily washes some time ago. It took forever for me to grow up and not have oily hair…but once I did, it's dry shampoo for me on alternate days. Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com

Aww thanks Debbie… they *definitely* needed the hat, they looked a bit wrong without it! And yes to dry shampoo, what a lifesaver that stuff is!!

I forgot to comment on this post, as I was trying to go through to the site (again), to buy the jacket (again). Sold out. You are not the only one who likes it.
Great outfit. Love everything about it.

I think I broke their website and made it sell out, Greetje! hehe, only joking…! Hence why I added an alternative. I was hoping it'd come back into stock, but I don't think it will! Thank you my lovely x

I always say a classic Panama hat is the way to go for summer, Christine!

You look so young you can easily pull off schoolgirl braids and look absolutely adorable! I don't know why but every time I see hair braided like that it reminds me of Lolita!
The coat is gorgeous, love the boxy shape!
I'm a hat kind of girl when my hair sucks, which is very often! I try my best to wash it as rarely as possible, but it's a hard task, so I'm really considering the dry shampoo in case of emergencies!

Keit you are such a love – thank you!!!!!!!! I'm with you on the hair washing thing… I love having long hair but I can't stand washing it. I hate it as much as I hate ironing, such a chore!!

I am so glad I've discovered dry shampoo and can't live with out. I was my hair about every 2-3 days now. I adore this checked jacket both ways you've worn it.

Hehe funny you say about Pippi Longstocking – I went as her to a fancy dress party when I was young… no one in this country knew who I was meant to be!! I lived in Canada when I was very little so knew her that way 😉 Thanks Rubi x
