Mixed Textures | Tapestry, Cashmere, Denim, Leather and Silk

Blue tapestry coat, red tote, grey boots, silk scarf
Is there any texture I haven’t added to this outfit…? I think I have them all with tapestry, cashmere, denim, leather and silk.

I’m still loving my La Redoute tapestry coat and I haven’t worn these grey mock-suede knee high boots in aaages (last seen here); the soft blues and greys are offset really nicely by the bright cherry red of my tote bag. I’ll be rather sorry when it’s too warm to wear this coat in fact, that’s how much I love it.

What really finished off this outfit, however, was the beautiful silk scarf from Siladora – a limited edition of 100 with a print inspired by Pacific seascapes. If you scroll down a few pictures you can see more of the stunning print: it’s quite, quite beautiful – and oh, those colours! Siladora describe their concept as a “creative collaboration; an art to fashion concept”. They work with artists to create unique and beautiful pieces, and I’m always attracted to brands like this. I love scarves of all different fabrics but there is something really quite special about a large silk scarf, especially when it unfolds to a mini work of art.

The scarf’s soft colours were picked out by the grey of the boots and the soft green of my earrings – and just to get really clever the red in the scarf was echoed both by the red bag and the piping in the lining of my coat. I’d like to say it was all planned but to be honest the red piping in the coat was a total surprise while we were taking the photos, and the bag was already in use but was still the perfect choice.

Do you ever surprise yourself with how you’ve unknowingly coordinated an outfit? Or do you own any silk scarves (vintage or modern) that are a bit more special than your everyday printed ones? Do share in the comments!

Jess thank you – and yes I have to agree with how beautiful the scarf is! The watercolour painting lends itself really well to it, like a mini work of art 🙂

I love this coat too. Wouldn't mind it myself. But it doesn't fit into my wardrobe anymore. It is full.
That scarf looks perfect with it. So funny you can wear a silk scarf effortlessly. When I put one on, it hangs like a threat.
Nice pop of red with the bag.

Oh Greetje I feel your pain – I don't have any room either, but that doesn't seem to stop me!!! And I bet silk scarves look better on you than you think…!! Thank you hun x

I love the entire look, Catherine, the scarf adds a very classy touch to it. Beautiful, soft colours!
And you should wear those great boots more often (although I hope you can change to lighter shoes soon!)

I thought that when I wore them, Annette… I think if I could have all my shoes and boots out on display I might switch things up more, but in truth I simply forgot I had them!! Thank you, so glad you liked the outfit xx

That's a beautiful scarf…I love silk scarves, especially vintage and own many, they are a great way to change up any outfit and add some individual style. I use them as belts too, and tied to handbags too!

Oh I always forget to tie them to bags Alison, but I love that way of 'wearing' them! x

I think vintage scarves are the best, Christine… this one's going to be a prized possession in someone's collection in 30+ years!

Yes, sometimes I surprise myself by how professionally I style some outfits 😀 Sometimes I think I must have some kind of brain dysfunction, because the outfits I created are horrible 😀
I love the pop of color you added with the bag and adore the loose fit of the coat!

Keit no way – yours are some of the most creative and funky outfits I've ever seen….!!!!!! I only wish I could be half as daring as you!
      And thank you… :)))

I really like your silk scarf and the print on it. I've always dreamt about vintage Hermes scarf- the details on them are so intricate! I will definitely check out Siladora. Silks scarf can be worn in so many different ways. I've always wanted to wear it around my head with big sunnies a la Italian glamour puss but I was never brave enough 🙂

Oh I love wearing them that way too, Ana! It's quite a summery look though and it was too cold to wear this one that way… looking forward to the summer for yet another reason now 🙂 Thank you for your lovely comment xx

    Hi Catherine!

I love how elegant this outfit is and how you have perfectly mixed and matched different textures and prints. Stunning.

In terms of a vintage or modern silk scarf…hmm…my mom had this one silk scarf that is so bright. It is shades of red, orange, yellow and black. I loved this scarf and would borrow it constantly. When I moved to SF, I had hoped she would let me take it with me, but unfortunately, it is also special to her, so I have to settle on borrowing it every time I visit her!
