French Style Denim and Nike Hi-Tops

Black and white check coat with denim and Nike hi-tops
I’ve been wanting to wear this French-style look of hi-tops with skinnies since I saw so many girls wearing them like this in Paris last year.

I know I’m a little late on recreating this style(!), but as I’m nearing the end of my La Redoute ambassadorship I thought I should get these fabulous black Nike hi-tops and do my own version before it’s all over.

It may be the end of March but we still need winter coats in the UK (depressingly!), so I paired the black and white of my Nikes with the black and white of my check coat. A little colour in the form of a purple galaxy snood (long since sold out sadly but ) and this was enough to keep me warm and comfy for a walk at the weekend. As with my other French style outfits, it may not be an outfit that screams “Parisian chic” but it’s the elements of it I like to take away and make my own, and as a long-time fan La Redoute is the perfect brand to be able to do that with.

Are you a fan of French style – and what does Parisian style mean to you? Do you have any French style heroines – modern or classic? Do share, I’d love to know!

Aha… such sneakers are called hi-tops eh? I know they are all the rage these days, but I am just not a "hi-tops"-kinda girl. I cannot get used to them. Women even wear them with a pencil skirt. I am officially old now. But you got the trend nailed alright.

Oui, oui, Greetje! (oh god I've got to stop it with the French.) I definitely wouldn't wear them with a skirt – but that's cause I have the sort of legs that need heels with a skirt!! And you know you're not old… no one who dresses as creatively as you could ever be classed as "old"!!!! Thanks G x

Merci beaucoup, Deborah!! I like elements of French style but also like to add in my own quirks like the pattern mixing 😉

I'm currently trying to master some semblance of "French style" for our first trip to Paris in May. French style heroines= Ines de la Fressange. Most of us are still wearing winter coats here as well…but once the temperature climbs above zero (tomorrow) I'm hauling out the spring coat. Spring is such a short season in eastern Canada…we seem to go from bitter cold to hot without very many of those sunny cool spring days that require a light coat. Might have to layer a jean jacket under my spring coat though.

Oh Susan you will just love Paris!!! Being in the UK we're very close so I've been three times now, but your first trip is always the best 🙂

I hope the weather warms up for you very soon!! x

Hehe I don't think they are actual scrunch socks, JJ – just ribbed knee-highs that I pushed down – but yes they do look a bit like them!! :))

The coat and high tops look so great together. I have quite a few pairs of runners (Canadian term for sneakers) but haven't bought a pair of high tops yet. After seeing how you wear them, I'm going to consider them.

    • 1 April 2015 / 8:33 pm

Thanks, hun! We use the term runners in my family too – I'm British but when I was very little my whole family move to Canada for a few years. That explains why my mum calls them runners: she picked it up in Canada!! When we came back I was about 5 and I realised no one over here called them that (they're more generally called trainers in the UK) so I purposely stopped myself saying runners to fit in.

I always thought it was an old fashioned expression that just my mum used…!!!!!

I think it is not really a pity if you have still to wear winter coats when the coats are so beautiful like yours! Love also your outfit version with the hi-top sneakers – although you saw this last year in Paris it looks still absolutely fashionable!

Aww thanks Rena – I know I'll miss the winter coats but then I'm longing to wear some pretty summer dresses, too… we're never satisfied, are we??
