Simple Pink Knit With Grey Plaid – and Two Punches of Black

Soft pink, grey plaid trousers and black cut away heels

Oh I do like it when you finally get a chance to wear something you bought a little while ago, but not had an opportunity to wear it yet.

The chunky black necklace was bought in the Asos sale but since Christmas I haven’t done many things that required dressing up (I’ve been in loads of layers and a coat mostly). My parents celebrated their 58th(!) wedding anniversary the other weekend so we had an informal family get together and I made a little bit of an effort (any excuse).

I ended up being a bit too warm in the end – lots of people, central heating and food cooking = overheated Catherine. It didn’t stop me liking the combination of grey check trousers and pink sweater though (pink goes so well with these trooz), and of course the necklace gave it all an extra something (and bookended the black cut out shoes nicely).

Have you bought anything in the sales you’ve not yet worn? Do you ever buy a season ahead when things are super low bargain prices? I’d love to know…!

Dearest Catherine…this outfit immediately reminded me of something that a certain Hepburn sister – who shares your name, if not the spelling! – would have rocked!! Love the plaid (of course!)…and the pink of that sweater is delicious!! P.S. Cool chunky necklace!! P.P.S. Congrats to the parents for reaching such an amazing anniversary milestone!! XOXO

Katharine Hepburn?!!!!!!!! Now THAT I'll take!! Thank you Monika, that's a terrific compliment… I always loved both Hepburn ladies even when I was growing up, it's great that they shared a surname but were so different style (and personality) wise. Thank you sweetie – I shall pass on your regards to Mum and Dad, heehee ;))

Those shoes are amazing. I do buy a season ahead if I love it and know that I won't be tired of it the next year- that usually means a really classic piece over a trend for me. I don't have closet space for things like I once did!

I think I'm like you on all those points, Marie!! I often buy things at the end of a season and they get maybe one or two wears – it's then put away for the next season and is like a lovely surprise when it's brought out again (in the right season) because I've usually forgotten I have it! Thanks sweetie xx

I tend to buy without thinking (I am trying to break this habit now) and end up selling them or giving them away. Love this fun look!

Hehe do I detect a shopping addiction, Mrs C…?! I'm quite bad myself too. We'll partner up and try to kick the habit together ;))
      Thank you sweetie x

I love seeing redheads in pink. It's just a match made in heaven. The pants and shoes are very cool.

    • 9 February 2015 / 7:06 pm

Aww thanks Deja! I always liked pink on redheads too. xx

A DIY should be quite easy, JJ – the braided part is some sort of lightweight stretchy fabric so I reckon t-shirt fabric would work well. Add some loops as you go, voilà! And I'm sorry about always featuring the trousers… resist! Resist!!!

Thank you so much my lovely :))

I just buy things I like, I don't try and buy things in season. I think most items you can make trans-seasonal with a bit of thought e.g. I can layer up a summer dress and wear it in winter. But I do indeed have things unworn in my wardrobe right now! Love you in pink, it's so flattering with your hair and skintone. x

    • 9 February 2015 / 7:02 pm

Yep I'm definitely feeling the colour pink at the moment, Porcelina! I too have a few unworn things in my wardrobe, mostly because they're a bit tight =oops=

Thank so much for your lovely comment x

Catherine~ I love the brogues with this outfit. And I'm also loving the soft slouchiness of it…those plaid pants are fabulous! I often buy things on sale that are out of season…can't resist a good deal! 🙂

Two punches of black (great naming) add the spark to the outfit. It looks great!

    Have a lovely weekend!

Ooh! I'm glad you included a closeup of the necklace. It's so neat and unusual.

For me, I had been on the hunt for a tribal layered silver necklace. I'd seen one on Instagram and became obsessed. (I'll tag you Catherine, so you can see my woes!) Then, I finally got something similar when my in-laws visited from the States. Again, I'll tag you so you can see my new bauble. It wasn't on sale, but that's ok. It was worth every penny (and since it was from Forever 21, it didn't break the bank!).

Now those shoes! I'm intrigued. Totally.

    You're pretty in pink! 😀

    Love,

Thanks Ann… it's a shame the necklace is totally sold out! And I can imagine you in these shoes, they're very "you"!! I'll look out for the tag on IG :))

The pink is so pretty, isn't it Jeanne – I bought it just for that reason!! Thank you x

I am not sure what I love most about this outfit, the trousers, the shoes, the colors or the necklace. All great pieces. I am so guilty of buying things and forgetting about it. I have a ton of clothes in my closet that still has tags on it. I am a very impulsive buyer and this results in over purchases. For 2015, I have really tried to be more mindful and so far so good.

Hi Catherine, I like this outfit! But such a big necklace would probably irritate me after half a day (can you actually wear it ALL day?) I'm not one for statement necklaces I guess. I usually buy things in the wrong season, it is a habit I developed when I was a poor artist and I only recently I started to buy things that I can wear right now. I bought a white boyfriend jeans for summer but I am thinking about how I could style it for February/early spring….

The necklace isn't at all heavy if that's what you meant, Irmin – the braided part is made of a lightweight fabric so it's actually quite light. If I think back to the day: yes I wore it all day and didn't even think about it! BUT I do have a few very heavy necklaces and I must admit I don't wear them much for that reason.

Glad you liked the outfit though, thank you! x

Love this outfit. So smart to bookend it with two black pieces. It looks really nice on you.
And yes I sometimes buy something and cannot think of what to wear it with. And then all of a sudden it becomes a favourite piece. Had it with a contemporary brooch and with a contemporary necklace I bought in the sales. Both all of a sudden great pieces which make the outfit. I do not buy a year ahead.
