Layered Roses Dress | Valentine’s Day Date Night Outfit

Valentine's Day date night outfit - rose patterned dress, red clutch
I’m not normally one for Valentine’s Day, but if there’s ever a chance to get dressed up in a feminine outfit that screams “LOVE ME!” then this outfit is the one for me. Typically, however, I haven’t gone full out girly love hearts and head-to-toe-red for 14th February, but instead I went against the grain a little and added plenty of black, grey and some layering. And trousers (what a rebel).

Thanks to La Redoute’s #LaRomance campaign (read more about that below) I’ve been inspired to get my romance on and come up with what would be my perfect Valentine’s Day date night outfit. February is far too cold for bare legs, so I layered this gorgeous over some cropped black trousers and added killer heels (of course). The is also from La Redoute (it has an optional shoulder strap) and adds the right amount of red without it getting into Valentine’s kitsch territory… thank goodness!

I must mention the gold cuff: it’s made by eco brand Emi & Eve – not only is it called the Love Cuff, but as with all their jewellery and metal clutches it’s forged out of recycled Cambodian war remnants (bomb casings and bullet shells in other words). They’re then hand crafted into beautiful pieces of jewellery or metal clutches… such a wonderful idea. Do pop over and check them out, the pieces are gorgeous.

Are you getting dressed up and going out for Valentine’s Day – do share what you’re wearing if so! Or do you not celebrate it? If you’re a singleton and planning something alternative for Saturday I’d love to know about it so please do share in the comments!

#LaRomance competition

Do you have a romantic story to tell that will rival the French for romance? If so, La Redoute want to hear it! They’re holding a competition in association with www.mylittlebox.co.uk – a monthly gift subscription service where you receive a lovely box of surprises every month like must-have beauty products, fashion and lifestyle accessories, illustrated goodies by Kanako, etc. They already have 80,000 subscribers in France, and we all know how stylish the French are, don’t we…?

There are three one-year subscriptions to win on their Share the Love to Win With My Little Box competition – all you have to do is head over to their Facebook page and share your most romantic story to rival the French for romance. I think it’s a lovely idea and to win a year’s subscription to My Little Box would be a fantastic prize. For all the details go to:

JJ thank you!!!! I took ages to do my hair (I did have time to kill…) and yes I agree – a Valentine's Day look does call for curls ;))

Monica you're such a sweetheart, thank you thank you x

I just love how subtle this look is. Not going overboard but you get the point of the vday inspo!

    Cheers,

Thanks Joanne – that was just was I was trying to achieve… not too sickly sweet, more of a funked up subtle version (if that's even possible)?!! x

Did you notice in pictures 1, 2, and 3 the cuff makes a letter "a"? So cool! Pretty outfit and it doesn't scream "Red and Pink are for Valentine's Day!" I love wearing pants under dresses too as you can see from this post where on Monday I did the same thing: http://www.krembdelakremb.com/style-story-work-outfits-monday-through-friday-4/ (Catherine, I kept trying to put this in as text with a hyper link, but it wouldn't let me for some reason.)

    Anyway, happy <3 Day!

    Love,

Ann of Kremb de la Kremb

No I hadn't seen the "a" in the bracelet, Ann – bit now I look it's all I CAN see!! How cool!

I love the dresses-over-trousers look, but then if I had your legs I think I'd be ditching the trousers and just wear short skirts and dresses all the time ;))

      Thanks my lovely xx

Love the shoes and the bracelet!

When I read your description of this ensemble, dearest Catherine – before I scrolled down to the first full-length photo – I tried to imagine how your dress-over-cropped pants outfit would work…and does it EVER!! The vintage feel of the floral dress would be super-pretty on its own, but you've made it a little edgy and unique by turning it into a pantsuit of sorts with those trousers!! This might just be my favourite new "NotLamb" look!! XOXO

Ohh Monika could this be one of your best comments ever?! I'm not sure seeing as they're all fabulous… you're such a sweetheart. Thank you hun, luv ya x

    • 12 February 2015 / 10:25 pm

Beautiful, aren't they Monica?! Such a wonderful story behind them 🙂

  6. 9 February 2015 / 10:15 pm

This is such a pretty look, and I love the dress with the trousers.

I tried a little skirt with hearts on it today from ASOS, and my husband said that I was thirty years too old for the skirt! I think he was right actually, but this outfit is perfect for any age!

    • 12 February 2015 / 10:25 pm

Ohhhhh if you liked it, Kaytee, go for it! But if your confidence isn't right up there when you're wearing it then it might be a no. I usually find that my OH says YES!! to an item I already love when I show him, and a NO when I'm not sure… I think he senses my lack of 100% lobve for the item…!!

Thanks for the lovely compliment xx

    • 9 February 2015 / 4:37 pm

It's a total bargain now, isn't it Tracy?! So glad they still have one for you…!! Thanks hun x

I've always wanted to do the dress/skirt over pants thing since the mid 90s when it was "it" once again…but never did! I do layer dresses over leggings though!
I like the look…it's not to pink or red…just a nice classy look for a date!
    Anna

    • 9 February 2015 / 4:36 pm

I mostly do it Anna because I'm not so keen on my legs… I can then wear short dresses as much as I like! I find the cropped length always work better. Thank you so much x
