Summer Heat | Grace Kelly Vintage-Style Yellow Dress

Vintage-style yellow dress
When you get summer heat in the UK it can really take you by surprise, so a very warm day of sightseeing on our holiday in Cornwall meant one thing: a pretty vintage-style dress.

I bought this Grace Kelly-esque yellow dress several months ago in the hopes I’d get a chance to wear it come the summer – and finally I got my wish on a glorious summer’s day in St. Ives! These photos were taken at the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden: what an amazing background the gardens and sculptures made.

The dress needed little more than some ladylike shoes comfy enough for walking all day (I’ve worn these Daniel Footwear pointed flats so much), some oversized sunnies and a large tote. A basic ponytail kept my neck cool, sunblock on… done. I have a bit of a thing when it comes to yellow dresses: to me there is no better summer outfit than a cotton yellow dress, especially in a 1950s style. When I was 18 my mum made me a copy of the yellow dress Sandy wore in Grease – I would give anything to have that dress still. Since then I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect yellow dress that’s as close to that dress as possible; while this one is more detailed around the bust than my old one, I sure do love it – it’s as near to yellow dress-perfection as it’s going to get. Even better than that? It came from Tesco. Their F+F Clothing range is pretty much spot on, if you ask me. A dress like this, from the supermarket. Who knew.

Are you a ladylike dresses kinda girl? Is it just occasionally like me, or do you wear dresses a lot – and what’s the perfect dress colour for you? Do let me know in the comments!

I love that color on you, it is so flattering. And, the little belt makes it so unique. I wish I could wear yellow, it is such a happy color.

I love yellow – it's a beautiful color on you. I've been trying to add more feminine dresses to my wardrobe – I really enjoy wearing them.

I think it's the unique bodice detail of this dress that makes it truly eye-catching, dear Catherine…that, and the sunny colour, of course!! And as much as I'm a jeans kind of girl, I think I like wearing dresses just as well; they're easy and pretty, all rolled into a single piece!! What's not to love?! πŸ˜‰

I like dresses. I used to hate them. But as I've grown older and into my body– I find that I like them more.
Yellow is a great colour. Maybe a green.

You look stunning in your ladylike dress!
Glad you asked… what kind of girl I am? Well, I change all the time it's rejuvenating and fun… This season I am ladylike in the city and boho glam on vacation but I never know really before I choose which shoes I will wear…

Exactly my style, Catherine! And such a lovely colour for summer. Not that we have summer here… it is grey, 11C and rainy all week and I am only dreaming of wearing a summer dress again!

I'm not a very lady-like girl, but I like to be treated as such, even if I'm burping beer πŸ˜€ Love the fancy dress and lovely tote, the shoes are so cutesy!

Gorgeous dress, Catherine! It fits you beautifully & looks amazing!
I definitely wear dresses all the time and I'm always on the lookout for the next 'perfect' dress to add to my wardrobe πŸ™‚ I generally steer towards a vintage silhouette (much like this one) but lately I've been enjoying the comfort of smock dresses πŸ˜‰
Have a beautiful day! I hope the sun keeps shining wherever you are πŸ™‚
