Birthday Party Outfit | A Vintage Fruity Midi Dress

Vintage floral wrapover midi dress #summer
So I’ve continued my birthday celebrations well past the one-day event that was Wednesday last week, and had a little party with my family on Sunday.

In my family you’re the birthday girl or boy until the next person has a birthday, and I last until September. Get innnnn ;))

A birthday party calls for a birthday dress, and after much deliberation about which dress to wear (several were discounted due to being too fitted around the waist – not good for hiding a cake-induced food baby), I settled on my vintage fruity midi dress that I bought from eBay a couple of years ago. I reckon it’s late 70s or early 80s judging by the label (the fonts they use are always a good indicator), and it’s so pretty and has so many colours in it that the possibilities of what shoes and accessories to wear with it are almost endless. I went neutral with my fierce pointed heels, added a blue cami (the dress is a bit too boobylicious otherwise) and picked out the pink with a skinny belt and the most amazing crystal drop earrings from Aspire Style. Love them against the colour of my hair.

Oh and if you want to see what I did with my birthday cake candles then check out this picture I posted on Instagram… I can do this only once more before I’m 50!

Catherine x

Are you a big celebrator of birthdays? Do you relish having “happy birthday” sung to you every year (like me), or do you prefer the day to slip by unnoticed? I always say: Birthdays are compensation for getting older, so make the most of them. And why shouldn’t we…?!

P.S. If you like this dress, you might like to see how I styled it as a wedding guest outfit for a country church!

Indeed a very pretty dress. Looks good on you with your hair and being nicely tanned. The shoes and earrings are lovely too. All in all: you did it again.
As for birthdays….. I stopped celebrating a long long time ago.

I love this whole look. I like the cream against your warm skin and the colours in the flowers with the blue vest underneath. The bright green nails are just perfect and I like the whole vintage feel of the outift. You certainly don't look your age! By the way, I like how you're starting to put photo tips on your fb page as they'll really help me loads!

You look every inch the birthday girl in this ensemble, dearest Catherine!! That vintage dress is a head-turner – of course! – but for me it's all about the jewellery and shoes today!! Talk about "pink power" care of those spectacular earrings…and your nude D'Orsay pumps are gorgeous!! Keep the (birthday!) party going, lady!! ;D

My family also like to extend their birthdays for as long as we possibly can. I just can't relate when people say they don't really celebrate their birthdays, I'm like whattt?!! I hope you are having such wonderful birthday celebrations, you are looking amazing in this fruity vintage find. 🙂

I'd also like to say a massive thank you for mentioning me in the interview you did. I was so humbled to be mentioned, it made my day.

    Take care lovely,

oh my good god Catherine… you are just to stunning for words.. seriously!! there is not one complimentary word that i can think of that will sum up how beautiful you look here! (but i shall try and explain.. The dress is stunning, what an absolutely stunning vintage find. It hangs beautifully on you too. You are looking gorgeously tanned too honey and your hair colour is looking radiant.. Basically, if you were to google 'perfect beauty' there should be a photo of you under it!xXXX big love to you my friend xox

    • 4 August 2014 / 5:34 pm

Rachel stop it!! You're too kind and lovely… so blushing right now. But then I gush over your outfits, so I guess it's only fair…!!! Thank you thank you xxx

P.S. The "tan" is really only the warm sun of the golden hour – I'm one of the pastiest in my family. My sister only has to look at the sun and her skin goes the colour of my hair – literally.
