Pink Striped Vintage DVF Jumpsuit

DVF vintage striped jumpsuit
It may look like separates, but this is, in fact, a jumpsuit – no less than a vintage DVF jumpsuit.

You can just see at the sides it’s joined at the back, but with that clever tie-front it looks like a (very modest) crop top and trousers. It was gifted to me by The House of Pandora, the same vintage shop that lent me the tapestry coat and patterned shorts suit set I wore (and nearly wore, respectively) to London Fashion Week. Their selection is amazing – owner Louise has the best eye for fabulous vintage pieces and sources her stock from all over the world. If you want someone to take the work out of scouring the web for great vintage pieces for you, The House of Pandora is the place to go.

I make no apologies about the fact that I absolutely love this jumpsuit. I can understand it may not be to everyone’s taste – it does look a little like pyjamas – but as regular readers know I’m past caring about what I ‘should’ be wearing at my age, or whether anyone thinks something flatters me or not… I love this jumpsuit and I’m gonna wear it! It was a hot day so it kept me lovely and cool, it was comfortable for a two-hour journey in the car down to Cornwall, it’s by Diane von Flippin’ Fürstenberg – what’s not to love…?

Do you still wear things that you know others may consider unflattering or age inappropriate? Have you ever had someone comment that you shouldn’t be wearing something: how did you respond? Do share in the comments – and please please please take a moment to read Glenda’s spot-on thoughts about the same subject 🙂

I adore this jumpsuit!! Too bad you don't have size 14 otherwise I would say: make a note to sell it to Greetje when you are done with it. She is 60 and would still wear it. Love it.
I do take into account not to wear things like short skirts because I don't like it on me. Makes me feel like it doesn't match. But ai wear really skinny jeans and don't care if anyone thinks she is too old for that. This generation and the generations to come are going to change the way older women dress. Like they have changed dressing in the sixties and seventies.

I think that jumpsuit is smashing! I agree with you – as I've gotten older, I don't care what anybody else thinks. If I like it, I wear it!

Hold on while I pick my jaw up off the floor…that jumpsuit is too gorgeous!!! And speaking of jaws, what a fine chin you have. That might be an odd comment, but it is meant as a compliment. :o)

Hi Catherine, thank you for mentioning the post, Are You Shackled? It caused quite a stir. I hope your readers enjoy it.

What a fantastic piece you're wearing. It does give the illusion of two separates. You always look lovely.

Hi Catherine, I am a big lover of vintage pieces. This jumpsuit is so much fun and looks great on you. I agree, fashion is about trying something new and pushing the envelope – taking risks. Love your attitude. And your right, what's not to love about DVF! cherie at stylenudge.com

Not for everyone's taste? Are you kidding me? I could kill for that jumpsuit! 😀 I love everything related to pajamas and this is no exception! 😀

The DVF jumpsuit you are wearing is so so cool. I loved it when I saw your styling pics and didn't realise it was DVF at first but that was the icing on the proverbial cake. And yes. All the time. I am constantly asking do you think I'm too old for XY or Z

    • 2 July 2014 / 10:10 pm

Thank you sweetie… and please stop it with the asking yourself with the "am I too old for"!! See my ranty replies above for what to concentrate on instead… don't waste your time thinking age has got anything to do with it – or how fabulous you are, or will continue to be:)))

This DVF jumpsuit is retro-fabulous, dearest Catherine…and somehow, it looks like it was made just for you!! Stripes are SO my thing right now, anyways; add the cute tie-front and rolled cuffs…and it's vintage heaven!! P.S. I read Glenda's post, and totally agree with her (and your!) opinion about age-appropriate dressing; it doesn't mean much to me either!! XO

I'm so glad, Monika – about your attitude to that stoopid age appropriate thing, and that you liked Glenda's post. And that you liked my jumpsuit ;))

Love your suit! Here here to not giving a hoot about what people might think….but what people say, well, that's just character-building! I'm recently separated and have already had any number of comments from 'friends' about dressing appropriately when they 'kindly' invite me to their couple-y evening get-togethers…..unsure how any of my clothes could be deemed provocative in a 'My God, she's going to steal my husband' way, but I've come to realise that other women feel threatened when one dresses for oneself, I think because of the confidence you radiate and the threat that presents. It's a powerful thing, to be one's authentic self when all around are poddling their own status quo.

    • 2 July 2014 / 10:08 pm

Dear oh dear what a way to live your life, thinking like those women..!!!!!! I just haven't got time for people who think like that. They should stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and try and enjoy themselves. Gosh I'm having a rant in my replies tonight!!
Thank you hun for visiting, and your great attitude! Good for you! x

    • 2 July 2014 / 10:06 pm

Yeah I kinda think that too, Lauren – but I wanted to wear it that day, and with travelling in a car and walking round our little we were staying in, it had to be flats. Sometimes I just cave to comfort :))
Next time it'll be heels, for sure!!

It's so interesting how fashion has come full circle and jumpsuits are back in fashion. In answer to your question I don't think anyone has commented on the age of any of my outfits but I sometimes ask myself if I should be wearing something as I'm now nearly 40. I'm co-hosting the linky today, thanks for following me.

    • 2 July 2014 / 10:04 pm

I hope that you ignore your hesitations, Lorna…?!!! If something doesn't suit you at nearly 40 it's not your age that makes any difference – it's because it doesn't suit you!! Stop asking yourself if you "should" be wearing something because of your age and ask yourself if you like it and itf it suits you. Does it make you feel good? Is it appropriate to the occasion (like jeans aren't appropriate for a church wedding, for example)? If yes to all those, then bloomin well wear it I say! x

So cute! I think I had a similar in the actual 80's and loved it then too. xox

Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, too!

That jumpsuit is lovely. It just reminds me of the baseball uniforms you always see on American films/tv shows. Take me out to the ballgame…

Oh gosh yes! Very baseball!! Thanks Rubi, I'll take that as a big compliment (I always think they look cool) x
