A Simple Date Night Outfit | Dressed Up Shoes With Sparkly Shoe Clips

Perfect date night outfit
A great pair of dark skinny jeans and a bright top is usually my go-to for an evening out, and if I add a pair of statement shoes then I’m a happy girl.

And although I tend to have a lot of shoes in a lot of different colours, I rarely buy really flashy shoes or anything with too much embellishment; I’m afraid I’ll wear them once and never again because they’re just too sparkly. But that’s where shoe clips come in – I always thought they were a thing from years gone by and that no one makes them any more. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they are still available… who’d have known!

I was contacted by shoe designers Elegant Steps who sell bridal and occasion wear shoes, and although I didn’t have a wedding or similar coming up, I was really interested to see they stocked a huge range of shoe clips. They have loads of clips in all different styles (crystal, fabric bows, vintage style, etc.) that are the perfect addition to any of your shoes to give them that little bit of bling.

Admittedly you have to be careful not to bash your shoes around or knock the clips as they will ping off, but the clip doesn’t mark them at all (which was what I was a little worried might happen). I went for the ‘nude’ colour crystal shoe clips which I thought would work with just about every colour shoes I have – and they do. Dead pretty and so easy: sparkle heaven!

You look especially glowy in these photos, dearest Catherine…I think a little bit of the City of Love managed to sneak home with you (or it's the prospect of a night out with your hubby, which is a very good thing, too!!) 😉 The bow detail on the sleeves – and the gorgeous colour! – of this top make it a truly special piece; add those zhuzhed up pumps, and your date look is ready, set, go!! I'm glad that shoe clips are making a comeback…I think they are a really fun idea for fancifying (did I make up a word?) your footwear!! XO

That's a really cute idea! I am thinking of a pair of black heels which I don't really wear as they are quite boring. A shoe clip will be perfect for them!

The entire outfit is adorable. I didn't think I'd like the clips but they are super cute. I don't anything like that myself, though.

I think I'd be showing a bit more cleavage for date night myself (Cleavage being my best bit – if I had a different body shape I might show off a bit of leg).

Still, a cute outfit and those shoe clips look like a good idea. Are they reasonably priced?

Haha I thought I was showing off TOO much cleavage, Eleanor… I'm not a clevaage girl at all!!

Lovely outfit. Great colour together, lots of interesting things to see. The bows on the sleeves, the clutch (bringing the colours together), the clip-ons. The orange shoes… great!
I am like you, more neutral shoes, but I have a lot of clip-ons, as a friend of a friend sells them.

The shoe clips are a great idea…I am the same, I never buy sparkly shoes as i just think I will never wear them but the clips are a great option to add a bit of bling when you need it. Great outfit as always x

      It's a perfect solution, isn't it Kareema? x

This is how they did it in bygone eras, they used clips to jazz up dresses, their hair, their shoes, bags, everything! I can't understand why I only have one clip to my name. Not even a PAIR. This must be rectified! I love how you chose non-satin shoes, because I always think that's super dressy to have sparkles and satin on the same shoe, sort of reserved for extra-special evening occasions or weddings. This actually looks more modern, having a 'matt' shoe, which means you can wear them with your skinny jeans. I'll be sure to check that company out. P x
