Ways To Wear A Pleated Maxi Skirt | With a Polka Dot Top

Navy polka dots & mustard yellow pleated skirt

I think a pleated maxi skirt is possibly the best item of clothing to photograph for an outfit post – twirl around a few times and it never fails to look fabulous.

I’ve been waiting for the weather to warm up a little to wear this skirt I bought in the Asos sale – although maxis are great in the winter, this sunshine yellow was begging for springtime. I styled it really simply with a navy polka dot top (love navy and yellow together) and my gorgeous v-locket pendant from UK jeweller Venus With Love.

These lovely lockets allow you to create personalised jewellery where you get to choose the colour, size and style of locket and add charms and an optional back plate from a huge selection – the locket opens so you can change charms or add more. I chose the medium size crystal v-locket in rose gold and my initial “C”, a camera (as photography is one of my loves), a heart (who doesn’t like hearts?) and the amethyst colour stone charms.

If you were thinking about getting a v-locket for someone I think it would make a really lovely gift; the larger lockets accommodate up to 10 charms so the possibilities are endless. Do you have any personalised jewellery – like the Pandora bracelets or a traditional charm bracelet? Let me know in the comments, and tell me what charms you have – and what they symbolise!

What a great outfit and love how you put the two together. I am terrified of maxi skirts, mainly because I am afraid I am too short. But wearing some type of heel would help:) You remind me so much of Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine in the photos above! I just love her style.

    Cheers,
    Alyson

Love this! I have a charm bracelet, with charms like a four cleaf clover for when I started university, a red high heel from my dad because I wear red shoes a lot, a cupcake, a lady bird and a mini locket because I couldn't decide if I wanted a locket or the charm bracelet for my birhday.

Lovely! My partner doesn't like pleated skirts because they remind him of church, but that's not stopping me! This yellow is so great for spring.

At first glance this outfit made me think of Snow White. I really love the polka dot top with the flowing skirt, perfect combo!

You look like you had a blast shooting this look, dear Catherine!! Your pleated, canary-yellow maxi is MADE for twirling, isn't it?! And it's so lovely with this navy, dotted blouse…another example of your amazing colour- and pattern-mixing skills!! My favourite piece, though, has to be your personalized locket; what a great little conversation starter!! XO

You look fab Catherine. I love navy and yellow too. And your locket is beautiful so pretty. I'm very sentimental so love charm jewellery. I have my grandmother's traditional gold charm bracelet and a few Pandoras. Love them all! Love Liz http://www.whatlizzyloves.com

As I just mentioned to Rachel, navy and yellow is really popular with Fever right now isn't it Liz?! I'm thinking of that dress I just bought…!! I love that you have you have your grandmother's charm bracelet, traditional ones are still the best I think πŸ™‚ Thank you my lovely x

Thanks Vicki…! You may surprise yourself – the way to find out is to try one one, take a few snaps them look at the pictures on a monitor screen (not just the camera). You'll know for sure then as you can be really objective! x

oooo that skirt is stunning and made for twirling! navy and yellow are like a match made in heaven arent they. We had a sunny day here in Wales for the first time in days, now for the temps to heat up a bit to really feel a bit spring like! XX

    • 10 April 2014 / 12:52 pm

I agree with the navy and yellow Rachel – Fever London have done a lot of those two colours together for their spring collection. Like the stripey pencil skirt and yellow cardigan we modelled… it's such a classic combo!! Anyway fingers crossed for more sunshine, us Brits deserve a fair bit of it after the winter we've had, don't we…?!! Thanks hun x

I have a charm bracelet, but I don't wear it. I don't like the style of bracelet the charms are on! I want to either swap to a new bracelet, or switch to a charm necklace instead. Until I decide it sits in my drawer. :o( One of the charms on it is the key to my diary when I was a little girl. :o)

Your skirt is so floaty, and gorgeous, and floaty, and Springy, and *sigh* so gorgeous!

I have a charm bracelet too – the old fashioned silver type with a link bracelet. All the charms represent either an event in my life (ballet dancer, car, musical note) or places I've been (Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, dice for Las Vegas, etc). I love the fact that each one means something – I've been collecting them since I was really small, and for my 40th my family bought me a new, really solid bracelet and I had them all soldered on. It's now really special πŸ™‚

And thank you for your lovely comments as always, JJ (I've found out your name, if that's what you call yourself… it's taken me ages to find it)! x

Don't know what I love most, Catherine. The colour (I am in yellow as well today!), the combination, the twirl or your hair… wait, I forgot the sunglasses πŸ™‚
    Beautiful!!
I have an old brooch with my initial "A" but (as always…) my daughter Alena is wearing it!!

    Hugs,

Thank you Annette…! I guess Alena borrowing your initial brooch is inevitable if her name begins the same as yours!
