Teal Slim Leg Jeans | TOAST Bath in Fashion Event

As a Bath in Fashion blogger award finalist, I was invited to an evening of shopping and prosecco at the TOAST clothing and homewares store in Bartlett Street, Bath, after the catwalk show on 18 April... in these photos I'm showing off the TOAST SS13 teal coloured slim leg jeans I was lucky enough to receive as a gift! They're a great addition to my coloured jeans collection, and the teal colour is quite muted so they work brilliantly as a neutral. Their sizes come up a little big, so I went down a size smaller than my usual size (which is admittedly quite good for your ego...!).

On the evening we were able to peruse the SS13 collection at our leisure and every guest received a beautiful posy of flowers as a free gift (so thoughtful)! The store itself is stunning; away from the busy high street, it has gorgeous high ceilings, an enormous gilded mirror and a very open and airy feel to it (I've shown some of their beautiful displays and the event itself below).

I especially loved the SS13 collection colours of lemon yellow and soft pink (and the wedge tan sandals)

Organic cotton canvas and leather high tops: I almost chose these instead of the coloured jeans...!

TOAST has some great separates, beautiful shoes and leather totes that are to-die-for, but overall the clothes are a little too minimalist for me - I'm more of a bright colour and crazy pattern girl myself. Most items are somewhat out of my price range (dresses cost on average £115), but if you're looking for quality items that will last plus a great shopping experience (the staff were all absolutely wonderful and really friendly), this is the store for you.

It was a lovely evening, and I'm very grateful to TOAST for the invite and of course for allowing me to choose something to take home with me. My jeans go so nicely with many, many items in my wardrobe, so I'm really happy with my choice!

My Go-To Uniform Of Blazer, Skinnies & Heels

On the day I wore this outfit to the office, I had a (blog-related) phone interview with an editor in regards to something top secret that I can't talk about... but that's only because she wouldn't elaborate and couldn't reveal what it was for exactly. Even though I'd love to tell you what it was about I can't, because I just don't know myself. Anyway, I digress!

One of the questions I was asked was pretty much what my go-to uniform is, and I wasn't sure at first. After a little deliberation I said that it's probably coloured skinny jeans, a loose fitting top or shirt with a blazer and heels... I looked down whilst on the phone and realised I'd described exactly what I was wearing. Predictable, much??!

I'm sure your "uniform" is something that changes regularly over time, however, which is a good job otherwise we'd get stuck-in-a-rut with our wardrobes - I'm sure it would have been something completely different a year ago.

I'll keep checking back on posts from a year ago just to make sure ;)

This weekend I'm up in London: seeing Mr. James McAvoy (in the flesh!) doing Macbeth on his last night in the West End. If he looks directly at me like he did last time I saw him in a play, I Won't. Be. Able. To. Cope....!

Have a BRILLIANT weekend, whatever you're doing or whoever you're drooling over!!

How to Get Photoshop for the Same Price as a Pair of Shoes

How To Get Photoshop For The Price Of A Pair Of Shoes
On many occasions I've read blogs talking about photo editing, and the bloggers getting a little despondent when they talk about how they "can't afford Photoshop". If I were to suggest that you forgo that pair of new shoes this month to buy Photoshop instead, would you be interested? If yes, then read on...

Basically there's more than one type of Photoshop: the main one is the type used by professional photographers and industries that require advanced techniques (think magazine publication). It costs over £600 - ouch.

But did you know about Adobe's other, much cheaper, version: Photoshop Elements? It's perfect for bloggers, as sometimes we want to get creative with our image manipulation. We also need red eye reduction, brightness and contrast, cropping, colour cast, adding text... the list goes on. I use Photoshop Elements to edit all images on my blog, create mirror images, and to create the leading images from my PhotoTips Friday posts (like the one above).

The price? £64.97 for Photoshop Elements 13 at Amazon.co.uk.*

Amazon.com is selling it for $69.99 - even cheaper (equivalent) than in the UK.

Photoshop Elements

And don't worry about not knowing how to use it; I am (almost) entirely self-taught, and I'm now pretty proficient at creating images, like the one at the top, in about 15 minutes. It will come with practice, and don't be afraid to experiment. If you're already running a blog, you should be quite good at picking up techniques and working out how to make programs do what you want them to do.

I'll admit that yes, it's still a fair bit to shell out - you can get free editing software online like PicMonkey or Pixlr - but I used to think being able to afford Photoshop was like being able to afford Louboutins. But if you're the kind of girl (like me) that buys Asos shoes, not Louboutins, then you might want to consider Elements.

So has this changed your mind at all? Let me know!

Happy Friday, everyone - have a great one :)

My Striking Magenta Fashion Awards Outfit | Freak Factory SS13

Purple and black Freak Factory SS13

Purple dress & black blazer | Freak Factory SS13
Ta-dah! This is it - the first outfit I've worn to any kind of fashion awards: I attended the Bath in Fashion Blogger Awards catwalk show (yes, I was FROW) as a finalist last week... I'm sure most of you know I didn't win, but I rocked the hell out of this Freak Factory magenta patterned top and skirt which made me a happy girl on the day.

I recently wrote about Freak Factory in my post A Beautiful Orange Dress - and this was the second outfit I chose from their spring/summer collection to style. They were good enough to loan it to me long enough to wear to the awards... I think this has to be one of my top five - maybe even top three - favourite outfits ever

The Freak Factory SS13 collection is "dedicated to sailors, love and pop culture" (doesn't that sound so cool?) - I LOVE the silicon coated pattern on this jersey fabric, and the colours are absolutely beautiful. If you look closely at the pattern, you can see an octopus (across the t-shirt), a ship's wheel, fish scales, waves, and of course sailors' stripes. It's definitely not the sort of thing you'd get at Primark, that's for sure; it definitely looked (and felt) totally unique with that incredible pattern across it.

In my usual style I added extra drama with my black crochet pattern tights, black blazer and the best Asos statement necklace ever made (sadly no longer available). On the day I also had to battle with the wind so my hair went everywhere, plus the cobbled streets of Bath don't give girls in heels an easy time. But it was a fantastic day; the catwalk show was amazing and I met some lovely people including one very famous blogger (see last photo), so it wasn't too disappointing not to have won.

Bath in Fashion

I was joined on the day by my sister Vickie and Mr. Summers, who came to support me (thanks guys) - these pictures are very typical of my sister and I when a camera is pointed our way. The sun came out so we basked in its glory in a doorway - but only briefly before we started giggling at pretty much nothing.

And here are some of the lovely finalists, with none other than Susie Bubble whom we met just before the show! Interesting fact: I noticed at least five of the ten finalists were redheads... we're going to take over the world.

We really are ;)

That's all for now, see you back in a couple of days. Thank you so much for all your support with, well, everything!!

Wedding Guest Outfit | Damsel In A Dress Style Challenge

Floral dress & statement necklace (great wedding guest outfit)
Beaded clutch
Braids, statement necklace & florals
Floral dress & statement necklace (great wedding guest outfit)
So all's good after a fabulous long weekend away for Bath in Fashion: look out for BIF-related posts over the next week or so, all still featuring my personal style :)

Today's outfit is a style challenge entry - as I'm so lucky to have had you lovely people support me for the BIF blogger award, I'm asking you again to vote for my outfit in a Damsel in a Dress Blogger Style Off... gosh I'm so demanding! I'm sorry!

As described on their website, Damsel in a Dress targets "confident, vibrant, and individual women who embrace the feeling of wearing clothes that are cut to flatter the female body". (I like the sound of that!) They contacted me to ask if I wanted to take part in a dress styling competition on their Facebook page with four other bloggers - and I'm rarely one to pass over a challenge! We've been challenged to create an outfit that's based around a dress from the SS13 collection - I chose the Sakura dress which is the most beautiful orange and pink floral, perfect for a wedding guest outfit.

So if you like the way I've styled it...

How I styled the dress:

I decided to go with black and white accessories to counteract the girliness of the florals, so an Asos statement necklace, a wide black cut-out belt and black scraper heels gave the dress a little bit of an edge.

You may think you need to buy all the extra accessories to go with a new dress for a wedding... not necessarily true. To save money, I looked at what I had in my (not very large) clutch collection, and found this very plain white patent clutch. And to funk it up a bit, I did the easiest DIY ever: arrange some craft jewels on your clutch in a pattern you like, then simply stick them on using a glue gun. Hey presto - one totally blinging, coordinating clutch!

The winning blogger will receive a £250 Damsel in a Dress wardrobe that they can keep themselves or use as a giveaway... I'll be offering the £250 as a giveaway - so please get voting!

Thank you so much everyone, I hope you like the outfit... Look out for more wedding guest outfits, I'll be featuring them in other posts over the next few weeks!

So this is my first post since not winning the Bath in Fashion Blogger Award... Never mind, there's always next year! We had an amazing day, the catwalk show was so much fun and it was so lovely meeting all the gorgeous girls... Of course big congratulations go to the winner Lorna of Raindrops of Sapphire - very well deserved hun, well done! :))

Thank you to EVERYONE that voted for me, I really appreciate your support and lovely, lovely comments and tweets and Facebook messages... you're all so great. And I'm very proud that I was nominated, seeing as it was the first time I've ever entered myself for anything blogger-related.

*THANKS GUYS I LOVE YOU*

Back to blogger reality then...! The true fashionista that I am is treating you to a faaaabulous outfit of, er, jeans and sweater today. But it is a pretty sweater - a new purchase from Asos that I saw on someone's wishlist (give yourself a shout out in the comments if it was you, sorry I forgot which blogger it was!) - and at least it was brightened by my magenta bag.

Mmmmmm, magenta.

Why say purple or pink when you can say magenta - it's such a great name for a colour I think: Magenta. Sounds so exotic!

Two exciting things to tell you about: I finally have an international giveaway coming up this weekend that I've been promising for a while. Think stunning vintage jewellery.  Come back Sunday for that, then on Monday I have a "proper dressed up" outfit that might just be entered for something for which I'll be needing Facebook votes... I hope I'll get your support again if it's not too much trouble...?!

Have a great weekend everyone,
