How To Wear Bold Horizontal Black & White Stripes

Black peak cap, black & white striped jacket and skinny flares
I wore this outfit quite a while ago and discovered that I hadn’t published the photos… hence the lightweight jacket when the weather was a little milder!

I’ve had the jacket since spring of this year but haven’t yet worn it on the blog – I love the bold black and white stripes and the cropped length. A lot of people say horizontal stripes make you look wider, but to be honest I think it’s all about the styling. These stripes are broken up by the front of the jacket, and I think the style lends itself perfectly to skinny flared jeans and my black 60s style cap with that fabulous snakeskin effect peak.

Since the jacket is no longer available, I’ve picked out a few alternatives below – is it me or do stripes seem more of a summer pattern? It doesn’t matter either way (there are no rules, are there), but do you also think of summer when you look at stripes…?

BTW if you’re in the US: Happy Thanksgiving! But if you’re celebrating today I guess you’ll be busy eating too much turkey to bother looking at this…? 😉

I love the way you've put the pink underneath. It really makes the black and white pop and makes a change from the usual stripes=nautical thing. You always give me new ideas. x

I wear stripes all year round. I have a black and white striped cotton dress I ordered from Dorothy Perkins and I just throw tights and pumps/boots on under it and a big sweater over it in the winter.

We Americans do read blogs on Thanksgiving! There's nothing else to do while the turkey roasts. Already exercised, already walked the dog, and now we lounge around till it's time to make the cheese/fruit plate and the drinks for the guests. Happy Thursday from the desert Southwest.

Rats… My comment went haywire (is this how you spell it)? Again…
Your taste and mine are the same today. I too have a black and white horizontally striped jacket, bright top and jeans. So obviously I love what you are wearing. Your jacket is a bit bolder than mine, but I like either. The cap and your hair make this outfit just a bit nicer, but you are heartily welcome to that.

Isn't it great that there are no rules anymore when it comes to style?! I've never really thought about stripes being more of a summer pattern…I guess we do see them "out to play" a lot during the warmer months, don't we?! No matter; this jacket (the stripes AND the cut) looks great with your jeans and cap…very jaunty!! And I could definitely see it with a skirt or dress, too!! 🙂

Normally when we see stripes we think nautical themes so yep summery but like all fashion rules it appears to be whatever we want is good (like the white all year theme going on now) The camel stripe seems more fall appropriate though. Still I like the look. PS I don't think anything would make you look wide, stripes or not.

Do you know I'd completely forgotten about the nautical connection, Linda… THAT'S why I thought summer! And thank you, you're a sweetheart!
